Let the snoozefest begin! The reason for the popularity of the sport is because it requires no expensive equipment to play; therefore kids in poor and semi-poor countries take the sport up. Grown ups follow the sport as a benign substitute for tribal and nationalistic hatreds. The game itself? Boring beyond endurance.

I'll be singing both of the National Anthems when Germany plays against Australia. But I bet Germany will win.

Nevertheless, Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi :D

Soccer it the absolute stupidist game there is. Just shows you how low humanity has sunk.

Don't forget Ballack has a bulge. It's called the ball(s)ack bulge.

They'll dribble once again like sperm in some vagina.

You could say this about anything which doesn't appeal to you personally.

Still, the World Cup is going to be fantastic. All you nay-sayers can sod off! :D

I might sound like a dick BUT what troubles me the most about the WC is that most of the poor soth africans are talking about the WC as if its going to solve all SA's problems but in my opinion it’s a waste of money for SA. For example the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban was built for R3.1 billion, to how many of the millions of homeless south Africans could the government have provided homes for with the money of just that ONE stadium? The worst of it all is that only 7 (yes seven) games will be played at the stadium (five group matches, one second round match, and a semi-final match). But that’s my opinion – btw I think Spain is going to win the WC

Ahhh soccer, one of the few competitions the USA is not a hyperpower in. :D Seriously, I'm only nationalistic when we're not winning everything heheh.

Top 5 teams that I'll root for:

1. USA
2. Japan
3. Australia
4. New Zealand
5. Netherlands

Oooh.

Given the odds and their respective footballing prowess, I'm not sure I'd put any money on any of those first 4.

Having said that, if any of them win you'll make millions!

I think most people would agree with you.

Fact of the matter remains, though, is that Govt would NOT have spent that 3.1 billion on the homeless. Money for the stadia was raised largely through investors and other revenue, from what I understand, and not as much through traditional taxes and stuff. So in effect much, but not all of it was "extra" money raised expressly for that purpose along with the usual budget from taxes which goes to other things like housing, education etc.

The real money and opportunities, allegedly, will come from increased tourism and awareness of what a nice place we have here and how good it would be to live, work, invest or play here. The World Cup will allow us all that exposure, like the Olympics do for their host cities and countries. Unfortunately, the tourists have not come (yet) - I'm pretty sure Malema is to blame for that, him and his stupid fucking big mouth and blatant disregard of the rule of law and simple common decency.

It would be nice if the poor and homeless set upon him like some sort of zombie apocalypse, if you ask me...

Ballack and few good germany player cant play ..... ohhhh poor germany ...

gnfrrhoa k%#*!!

on a side note, there was a game between Germany's first eleven against the B team for practical purposes. the B team won 5:3

so does that mean we don't have to worry about capable second choice players? Or ist our A Team just not all that? ..

Hey guys

With just 2 days to go, I'd like to bring in some pictures and team news and stuff to make this thread really informative and up-to-date - would it be okay to do all that here, or should I create a new thread?

Comments or ideas? I figure most of you in here have an interest in the game, so I reckoned I'd bounce it off you lot first.
