Soccer World Cup 2010

The game was not the best I ever saw...

Very aggressive gameplay from netherlands, mistakes, yellow cards....

Im glad for spain even if this WC was not "mine" in terms of teams :D

Too sad it's over and this thread is gonna die :(

The best and the hottest team won! España Campeones.

It was very touching to see Casillas fall to the ground and cry, I almost started to cry myself.

Spaniards are very hot. Definitely up there with Brazilians and Italians!

Plus, unlike the brazilians and the italians, the [STRIKE]Spaniards[/STRIKE] champions are not homophobes.

I read an article about homosexuality and soccer. From the Spanish side, Vicente Del Bosque, Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique were supportive if a teammate was to be homosexual (Pique has said that there are gays in soccer). Cristiano Ronaldo supports gay marriage.

On the other side, the italian coach would not use a gay soccer player, and Cannavaro is against gay marriage. The brazilian coach, denies that there are gay men in soccer, and is against them as well. And Kaka, who is evangelical, threatened to sue a gay magazine if they used any picture of him.

So take that homophobes.

Disappointed by Netherlands... They didn't show class to be playing a final. So many yellow (redish) cards, violent fouls, and one on one plays against Casillas missed. What happened with Robben?? Two one on ones missed! They had an amazing world cup, but with a final like that, they didn't deserve to be world champions. Maybe it's in the genes, Holland has revolutionized football in the 70s, they were the best teams, and they freaked out in the finals! LOL (sorry fellow Dutchs, don't get mad at me, just my opinion).

Wasn't the most enjoyable game, but we all enjoyed it because it was a final, and I understand that players must be under so much stress, remember Zidane's header straight to the Italian?

Congratulations Spain! I wasn't happy with your performance at the beginning, you could've been elminated in first round had Chile scored once more, but then you showed that you grew match by match, always winning for only 1-0, but always showing the best football. And the match against Germany was one of the best played in the world cup, only with that match you deserved this title so much. Some of your players also disappointed me in the final (Villa), but the rest did what they could, not forgetting all the nerves and stress that playing a match like that must be.

Everybody was talking about Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Maradona, Rooney.... where are they now? The super-stars turned out to be Forlan (golden ball), Muller (golden shoe & young player), Sneijder & Villa with silver & bronze awards (both as best players and top scorers) , Casillas chosen best goalkeeper. It seems that being humble and low profile paid off this time.

This is Sara Carbonero, a Spanish reporter, interviewing hottest Spaniard Iker Casillas. They're partners, but she's professionally interviewing him after the final. She asks him a typical question about how he's feeling, and then he says he wants to dedicate this victory to his parents and so on, and then breaks down, so the reporter says: "That's all right, let's go back to talking about the match and we can come back to this later...". That's when Iker says no with his hand, and grabs her head and kisses her in the mouth, and then leaves :=D: Then she says "Oh madre mia! (Oh mamma mia)"

Fucking bitch, I'm so jealous!!! Imagine being in her place at that right moment!! Award for the hottest kiss of the year (there should be a FIFA award for this)

Just wondering - why was it that Brazil and Holland were arranged so that they would meet so early? That is unusual in tournaments for two of the highest seeds to meet before semifinals.

That awards are in part influenced by who teams played. For me David Villa was the best player because his goals helped the eventual champion advanced. Number of goals is really a vanity - what should matter is winning.

Sara Carbonero is a hot bitch, would love a 3some with those two!

Great final! Very happy for Spain, but I feel bad for the Netherlands!

I do hope the Spanish make good their promise to buy Paul the Psychic Octopus to keep him safe from harm!

:D

Iniesta is easily the most beloved man in all of Spain at the moment!!

:D

Just read online, paul has retired as of yesterday.

Agreed on all counts. In particular, I am very pleased for Forlan. And I don't mind Spain winning; they were my 2nd choice if the Dutch were eliminated, but if I were putting money on it I still would have put it on Argentina as I said before the 2nd round.

One last point - I wish they'd played Cesc Fabregas more. Such a class player (and one of my Arsenal boys, of course) and I deeply hope he doesn't go back to Barca. The guys who keep him out of the Spanish squad are all there - it's bad enough competing during internationals without having to sit on the bench for the whole season, which is what I think might happen to him.

I remember Jordi Cruyff benchwarming at Man U for 2 seasons (like Pique, Tevez and Forlan!) after Euro 96 and countless top-drawer guys huddled on the sidelines at AC Milan during the 90s and it would be such a blow to see such talent wasted on the bench, and of course lost to Arsenal. Vieira, Hleb, Flamini, Petit - all great midfielders Wenger has let go. I'd hate to see it happen again, as much as a fan (big! I have 3 of their jerseys) that I am of Barca (man, that Champions' League 2006 Arse-Barca final killed me).

Luck of the draw, I think. It's always a cross-over - for round 2 the top 2 in group A play top 2 in B, C play D, E play F and G play H, then winners of A1-B2 play winners of C1-D2 and winners of A2-B1 play winners of C2-D1 etc. As it was, Netherlands were E1 and Brazil G1 so they met as winner (E1-F2) vs winner (G1-H2).

HA! :rotflmao:

Congratulations on reaching 2,000 posts, AnalblasT! :=D:

I think King Juan Carlos I should buy Paul the Octopus, rename him «Pulpo Pablo», elevate him to the nobility by making him a Grande de España, give him a peerage (shall we say "Duque de València"? ;)), give him a spot in the Palacio del Oriente (maybe one of those fountains in the picture), and when he dies, have him pickled, build a mausoleum for him and put him on permanent display (like Lenin ).

Oh, and would it be considered poor sportsmanship to change my avatar to this? :p

j/k, of course :)

Yes, Villa was very important, but he chickened out in semi-finals and final, so I don't see him deserving that, he had a very clear chance against Ned when it was 0-0. But Spain showed they were more of a team than individual stars. When one didn't work, the rest were playing well. Maybe the only individual standing out is Casillas, he kept the 0 in the knock-out stage

aaaaww....

That's so sweet and so touching.
He expressed his feelings for her with 500,000,000 people watching. :luv:

BTW, how are you coping with the world-cup-is-over syndrome? Missing it?

I'm still checking FIFA's website to engage in the last discussions, but nothing is the same as one week ago :(

The discussion I like and I'm going to put forward is: What was your favorite South Africa 2010 moment? Maybe a match, a goal, a play, an image, a celebration??

Mine was Suarez's handball save in Uruguay-Ghana, and all what followed (pk missed, shoot-out definition, with the very last ball being chipped in: epic!). What was yours?

For the first couple of days after the Final, I was having mixed feelings.... sad that it was over for another 4 years :( but soooo happy that Spain are ¡los putos campeones del mundooooo!:gogirl:

I have 5 favorites. :)

First was Landon Donovan's goal against Algeria, with just 2 minutes left to live to play another day or go home. It was "do or die" time and he came through. All of USA celebrated!

Second was when -d- showed us his lucky Dutch undies (and his treasure trail :p)

Third was Andrés Iniesta's goal. :)

Fourth was El «Show» de Pepe Reina.

Fifth was meeting all of you guys here in this thread. I've made some good new friends. :D

I'm fine with the world cup being over. I do miss watching the games a lot though!
But
1. I drank way too much over the past few weeks, because there always seemed to be some occasion to do so. Now I'm sobering up, which is a good thing.
2. therefore I also spent too much money going out.
3. in the time of the world cup the relationships of my three best friends all ended, of course due to other reasons, but the world cup seemed to be cursed.
4. soon enough the Bundesliga will start again, which is great :)

My favorite moment was having my guy sitting on my lap through the whole Germany-England game. Which was a satisfying game aswell, to say the least :)

!oops!

I notice nobody else trooped their colours in this thread... I'm not angry; I'm just disappointed in all of you :p /my mom

My favourite moment was when the Dutch won the sodding thing in 2010, in a parallel universe. Best World Cup moment EVER.

:-({|=

In this universe, it's a toss-up between the chatting in here, the amazing demolitions of England and the Argies by the Germans, and the first goal of the tournament when all the excitement finally bubbled over and it felt like it had really started.
