We are military professionals not 5th graders! wtf! And i seriously doubt it will be anytime soon that this will get reapealed, it took decades for it to get this far

I just listened to this interview on yahoo and i believe one of their representatives said something along the lines of "An overwhelming majority of soldiers said they do not want to bunk or (forgot the word) with gays". There it is, this really is no longer about what the minority of what people want, its what the MAJORITY of men and women in the military want. And they do not want you. I personally would much rather not see more gay men and women put them selves in any more danger then they are already in. Lifting the ban on Dont ask will just make things worse off on them. The military just isn't ready for this, not now.....Blah blah thier homophobic, yeah we know, its the fucking military, what were you really expecting. Oh yeah and guess what, there are many white supremacist still walking around. Think your going to change there mind.

Saying everyone should just run away is not the answer. The policy needs to be changed.

People who want to serve, despite such misgivings or whatever negative atmosphere there is, should be able to.

England calling a few years back we lifted the ban on gays in the Military 10 years ago. A straight buddy of mine in the army shares a room with 4 guys one of who is gay.

Not one incident in all this time either between a gay and straigth male or straight and lesbian has happened. They share the same showers bedrooms and nothing!

Saying the gay male or female should just leave the military or not sign up to begin with is besides the point. If you want to fight for your country, you should be allowed to. If this law had a legitimate reason, then maybe I'd see their side, but it doesn't. This law is based on idiotic stereotypes that are cruel and offensive. I've heard everything from "gay guys only join the military so they can be closer to other guys" to "gay guys are nothing but distractions". Our men and women who fight for our freedom are discriminating and wanting to take the rights away from gay soldiers? What a fucking paradox.

Yes, and I'm sure a majority of people didn't want Rosa Parks sitting at the front of the bus, either, bud.

Guess we should have let that issue stay as it were because a majority didn't care for blacks.

DADT will fall very soon. I feel deeply for the servicemembers whose careers are still in jeopardy during these next few weeks or months, but the horizon is well in sight. The White House, the top military officials, majorities of the public (even Republicans), and at least some of the courts favor doing away with the policy, so it won't be long now.

It's gonna take years.

With the coming Republican sweep in November, it will no longer be possible to get DADT repeal legislation passed. Period.

DADT has already been challenged in court dozens of times and that is going nowhere.

President Obama supports repeal of DADT in name only. He will not speak out on our behalf and has recommended the anti-gay Gen. James Amos - who favors continuation of DADT - to head the Marines Corps. Gen. Amos publicly pleaded with the Senate NOT to repeal DADT just prior to the vote yesterday.

The bottom line is that Republican obstructionism works brilliantly. It fires up the GOP base, demoralizes Democrats, and gets Republicans elected, even when they advocate minority positions. Appeals to hatred are very, very powerful. The Republican Party is masterful at appealing to hatred and prejudice. Whether it be anti-gay, anti-Black, anti-Hispanic, anti-Muslim, or anti-non-English-speaking, the American public will continue to reward this behavior by Republicans.

And Republicans will continue to hate. Because hatred works very, very, very well.

you are either VERY young or you are very naive to think that most military personnel have a problem with gays in the military and that we should just roll over and not fight the issue..

I'm not surprised someone like you wouldn't watch the GAGA video bc your prol just another self hating queer like alot of guys that don't care about gay rights.. The policy is to not ask, and to not tell period. Under the rules of DADT it is true that you are not allowed to tell your other officers that your gay, however you also cannot tell them you aren’t gay. You are supposed to be a soldier. One of many. You’re there to do your job. Your meant to put your life on the line for your country, and be a killing machine when needed. The reason this has become an issue is because there are more and more out gay people, and for some reason we’ve decided that we want our sexual/social/personal lives all tossed in with our professional. The only reason people assume it means the same as “No Homo” is because the majority of people are straight… which means that the assumed sexuality is straight. Its our own subconscious awareness of this assumed heterosexuality that causes us to misconstrue the meaning.

I am for DADT, because I don’t find it wise to have a military force split in two: Gay Soldiers and Straight Soldiers. No. I think a much more effective force is one unified Military: Soldiers. Nothing more, and nothing less. They are all the same. They’re there, they’re doing their job, that’s all anyone else there needs to know.

Besides, there’s much more important things we could fight for first.

I'm sorry, this isn't actually worth 2 cents. Among the many things wrong with this is the fact that no one at all is expelled from the military for saying "I'm not gay," and the idea that people being out would create a separation.

All the straight military I know have said there were guys everyone knew were gay in their unit, and that no one cared. And of course the militaries of the UK, Australia, Israel, Canada, Germany, France, and Spain have all separated into Straight and Gay. I bet you didn't even know that all those countries allow gays and lesbians to serve openly.
