You know the answer to this. Because he's black.

Comments like this, to explain seniors resisting ObamaCare, are so revealing.

Seems to completely escape the fact that that older generation happens to be the generation that fought for civil rights and created Medicare. #-o

^Both the Clintons were able to connect with them. The racial aspect is overdone. Older populations are generally more conservative, but these are the people that supported JFK and LBJ and Carter before liberalism ran out of steam. There is no good reason for seniors to oppose health reform, the opposition has been ginned up through misinformation. If the Republicans can get to seniors by scaring them there is no reason why Dems can't counter.

The Dems need these people if they want to remain in power in 2010, 2112 and for the foreseeable future, if the Dems can't get them back, the Dems may as well just hang it up.

Bill Clinton was able to connect with them. Hillary Clinton was not, as evidenced by her attempt at Universal Health Care. She also failed on selling the country on it.

Judging by the wingnuts I see coming out, Obama has two strikes against him, that is riling these people:

1) First, and foremost, he is Black.

2) He is labeled as a Socialist/Communist and the people are paranoid that he wants to get away from Capitalism and move towards Socialism.

Combine that, with the likely probability that I dare say that 90-95% of these rabid protesters more than likely didn't vote for Obama anyway, and are more than likely viewers of FOX News or listeners to Right-Wing Talk Radio .... and that explains it even more.

Furthermore, their pre-conceived biases make it that much easier for Big Business to exploit them, to push forward their own agenda in killing this initiative.

I wish these town hall meetings were a lot more civil. I agree with people from both sides being able to ask questions ... and also tough questions at that. But this shouting and interrupting of speakers is absolutely uncalled for. And I think people that do this in an attempt to disrupt the meeting, should be thrown out of the building. And if that means that 40% of the audience gets thrown out of the building, then so be it.

People who do that crap only prove that they aren't interested in learning about the program. Rather, they are simply there to do what they came to do in the first place ... disrupt the event.

Glenn Beck needs to call on Pat Robertson to have him pray to get those sponsors back.

The concern from seniors about ObamaCare can be understood by recognizing the reason for AARP's refusal to endorse any of the bills so far.

That's why Obama lied about AARP's endorsement the other day. And his lying is part of the problem.

Wrong, the reason why AARP isn't endorsing Obama is because they choose to stay above the fray of partisanship. They didn't even take a side during the 2008 election, so don't expect them with this issue either.

No, there is more true to his statement than you admit.

For the record, it was lower-income and lower middle-class blacks, Jews, and socially progressive whites that fought for the Civil Rights. These people who are fight against health care are pretty much poor and lower middle-class whites from rural and exurban areas (none of which are socially progressive) that had NOTHING to do with the Civil Rights movement at all. If you have done research on the Civil Rights Movement you would know this to be true.

AARP is supportive of Obama and of health care reform. AARP's CEO appeared with Obama, and indeed introduced him, at a town hall meeting about health care a few weeks ago, and he expressed AARP's support.

What AARP has not endorsed is any of the bills put forth so far, including what Obama is pushing. And there's a very specific and good reason for that, which has nothing whatsoever to do with staying above the fray of partisanship.

What I find hysterical are the Seniors who are complaining about Obama "being a Socialist", when they are recipients of Medicare, and have absolutely no problem with that.
.

Medicare recipients paid a premium (it was paid involuntarily, but a premium nonetheless) for a defined benefit - so they're not exactly getting 'something for nothing' as you seem to be implying.

According to a Newsmax report, some organized Obama groups are behind the attacks on Beck.

I find Beck's style very annoying, so don't pay him much attention - so I don't really care whether his program succeeds or fails.

http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/be...2009/08/13/247700.html?s=al&promo_code=856B-1

Newsmax has learned that the co-founder of the African-American political organization Color of Change, which is calling for Beck's ouster, is civil rights attorney Van Jones.

In March, President Obama appointed Jones to serve as his so-called "green-jobs czar," responsible for stimulating job growth in the environmental sector.

"I don’t have proof that the White House asked Color of Change to help it fight back against Glenn Beck," Matthew Vadum, the Capitol Research Center senior editor who has written extensively about Jones' activities, tells Newsmax. "But I wouldn’t be surprised to learn it had. Van Jones has the president’s ear. It’s a few hundred feet from his office at the Council on Environmental Quality to the Oval Office."

The other co-founder of Color of Change, James Rucker, confirmed to Newsmax that Jones' formal association with Color Of Change ended in December 2007. He states however that the organization continued to use Jones' name on their e-mails until May 2008.

Jones and Beck have had their run-ins before. Beck has described Jones as "a black nationalist who is also an avowed communist."

If Newsmax is a far-right publication as Alfie is implying, its credibility is at stake.

.

Newsmax is at least as reliable as daily kos or huffington.

You have to dig deeply to see how much, if any, of what they put out is 100% accurate.

It's also tough reading your incomplete thoughts without proper punctuation. Can you please write in complete sentences? I've had an easier time figuring out a rubric cube than reading some of your posts.

they're not incomplete

punctuation is for an english test :D

pretty sure everyone on JUB knows where i stand on most if not all issues

so i must be doing something right

i do know how to spell - that i do know

am i getting through here ?? ;)

Looks like the Beck advertisers are dropping like flies! I say keep up the pressure guys. Call the corporate headquarters of any advertiser that still is with Beck and voice your displeasure!

Here's the recent list of defectors:

Procter & Gamble
Progressive Insurance
SC Johnson
Lawyers.com
Geico Insurance
Sargento Cheese
Men's Warehouse
State Farm

I saw where Wal-Mart was still being asked to quit sponsoring Beck. I can't find that link but here is one that Color of Change is running.

must be tough

ur inability to grasp concepts that you don't initiate

i guess the simple stupid version - which is appropos

is that the 85 here seem to love to put in a box any commentator who espouses ideas other than their own

they label them

they complain about them

etc.

they don't frequent their tv show nor radio show

yet they feel empowered to comment AS IF

theater of the absurd really

which is LIFE ON JUB

bunch of crazies

acting AS IF

am i making sense yet

if not meet me at splash thursday night for a 1:1

They are too busy hating to listen to you or anyone else. If something doesn't fit into the the little box they have put themselves in they attack it and anything that challenges it. They don't get that people can have a different philosophy than their own without being stupid. They don't get that gay people can have as many diverse political views as straight people. For all their attacks on Republicans, conservatives and fox news, I have never seen the level on intolerance and hatred espoused by alfie and [Text: Removed by Moderator] from any conservative. Are there some conservatives that actively oppose gay rights and equality? Of course there are but it is not all of them and the number is steadily decreasing. I know a lot of Democrats that are rabid antigay haters no party has the market cornered on intolerance and hatred. Gays need to be involved in the mainstream of America not isolated into gay only little groups.

As long as alfie and [Text: Removed by Moderator] attack everyone with constant name calling and denigration the level of discourse here will continue to devolve. They seem to spend their every waking moment looking for someone they don't agree with to belittle. If that is the only way they can feel good about themselves we should feel sorry for them. What a miserable way to have to live your life.

^ I've reported your personal attacks. You know, the attacks you accuse others of making?

Not a personal attack at all. I didn't call you an America hater or an asshole like you have done to me. I didn't even suggest you should be evicted from the country and sent to North Korea. I just pointed out the obvious. Thorry your Tho thensitive. I respect your right to your left wing hatred. I just don't agree with it.

[Quoted post: Removed by Moderator]

I don't do name calling or deride anyone. I am sure you think that I do because I have the gall to see things differently than you. I guess that makes me part of Chance 1's 15. As far as I'm concerned that is good company to be in. You seem to fall into the group of people my dad had the least respect for, all book smart but no common sense at all.

I have removed several posts from this thread. Given the deviance from the original topic, including posts by the thread creator, I have removed the “On-Topic” designation. Oh Ufstud90,

We barely knew ye and now you've gone...

I realize many of these 24 hour news stations no longer provide news as much as they attempt to make it. My first career was in journalism; what we watch today would make Edward Morrow or Walter Cronkite roll in their graves.

The 24 hour "news" stations are turning into more reality television. I remember watching Glen Beck when he first came on and thinking he was a bit crazy. I don't watch that often but he almost appears to be fanatical when I have clicked across his show, albeit for minutes because I can stand his ranting lunacy in the same dribbles as Oberman.

The one thing is that these nuts draw viewers -- scarey as it may sound. Should advertisers be used? I remember years ago when anti-gay forces lobbied Ford, Disney and others with boycotts in attempts to sway to their viewpoints. Why not the other way around?

One thing is still true, even if the definition of news and journalism is not -- money does still talk!

Whatever they say on Fox, you repeat. Oh, you might customize it a tad but it's virtually the same stuff. That's a fair statement, would you not agree?

says the guy who never watches TV

as usual ur comments defy simple logic

forget about making sense

night dear ;)

u allow a handful of posters to piss on the board's "integrity" day in and day out with their narcissistic bullshit

it's the same group always

thereby emboldening the weaker followers to do the same

it's like Groundhog Day, except the movie was funny

this version is just sad :(

i would say keep up the good work but it's not in me to lie
