STAR WAR THREADS MERGED HERE (*May contain spoilers!*)

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

It's been "happening" for the past two years now. Production has been fraught with problems ever since it was announced. And they still are casting and haven't started filming yet? I only hope they have been spending this time focusing on a rock solid script, story, and characters rather than figuring out how to make the best CGI ever. But it has the Star Wars name, so I am sure it will sell millions of tickets easily no matter what.

I'm not so sure about that. I read an article a few weeks ago that the 'hero' of the movie is to be the son of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

Yeah, I know. Incest anyone?

Whaaaaaat? That can't be right. They Probably meant Han and Leia. They're not going to make the hero from a brother-sister incest union. They'd put her with the wookie before Luke.

I can't wait for the new vehicle and ship designs to come out

hopefully they'll bring back the Action Fleet and Titanium series of collectible ships and vehicles

and maybe reintroduce some of the older ships

been wanting to get a decent Nebulon b, Home One, Banking Clan frigate, and Trade Federation landing craft for a while

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

I have a bitter sweet love affair with Star Wars.

The first movie came out when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. It was love at first sight. By the third movie I was totally invested in the characters... and then? I was dumped. I was willing to forgive, but when the next three FINALLY came out, I was bait and switched with mostly new characters. NOT the ones I grew to love, and followed their adventures with.

I hate prequels. I didn't much care what made Darth Vader evil. He was the villain. That's all I needed to know. Good guys. Bad guys.

Not to mention the length of time I had to wait for those prequels. Now decades later I'm yet again bait and switched from Luke, Leia, and Han and given more cheap substitutes with their kids... and I'm supposed to be happy about it !?!?

Star Trek may not have had the budget Star Wars did, but at least it was more consistent and nearly always there for me.

I'll eventually watch the new movies... out of curiosity. Not out of love of an old friend, but as one going to a class reunion to see their first love nearly forgotten, in the arms of someone else and pretending we don't know each other in shadows of might have been.

Star Wars VII - what is known now.

A long but comprehensive article. Cast, director, writers, music, plot.

(Disney head Alan) Horn said Episode VII would take place 35 years after The Return of the Jedi, using an original plot outline by George Lucas (who is involved as a creative consultant) as a template. The original script was said to be primarily concerned with the offspring of Luke and of Han and Leia, but that focus has now shifted to the creaky lead actors from the original trilogy, though the Solo and Skywalker nippers will still feature heavily.

Releases 18 December 2015.

Huh. Well, I can't say I'm not curious what it's going to be like... although I'm having a hard time picturing the original actors in it now - after ALL these years.

I know, it does seem odd. You (borg69, post 6) are more right than wrong in your analogy to a class reunion. I would have thought Harrison Ford would be thinking more of the Scooter Store. And Mark Hamill's distorted face from the motorcycle accident?

With luck the "nippers" will be able to carry the franchise forward for the 2 films to follow.

I am totally glad that guy (Hayden Christensen) playing Anakin is gone; absolutely detested him.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

They SHOULD have done this movie 30 years ago, if they wanted to use the original actors.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

This casting takes me back to the Rolling Stones Steel Wheel Tour, even (in '89?) called the Wheelchair Tour. (I saw them in Miami at the Orange Bowl and they were great.)

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

I can't wait for these films to be released. Thank god George Lucas isn't directing after selling Lucas Film to Disney and instead it's JJ Abrams.
They also mentioned on the news today that Peter Mayhew will return as Chewbacca along with the original Luke, Leia and Han.

I know that Michael Arndt's script was rejected and he was subsequently fired, but what problems after that?

I like J.J. Abrams. And I like that Lawrence Kasdan is back.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

^ The same news that you added a link for, plus the "news" that was on our Australian TV yesterday re: the three key principals reprising their roles.

Three photos have surfaced from the Abu Dhabi film set.

One piece of equipment – a giant, round, grey disc – has got fans debating online whether it could be part of an escape pod in which C-3P0 and R2-D2 crash-landed on Tatooine in the original 1977 film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope or part of the foot of an AT-AT vehicle first seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

it's not from the escape pod

it's the under side of one of the "feet" of an AT-AT (walker); matches my examples of the vehicle perfectly

the "notches" under the guys right arm and at the top are where the extensions go (4 in all)

I believe the piece to the right (where the three guys are at) sits on top of the "foot"
