Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) is Dead [merged]

I wonder if someone is going to put the video of his death online?

As a member of PETA, I did not like Steves treatment of animals and not surpirse that one of them finally attack him back.

I believe u get what u deserve. This asshole picked on innocent animals & they fought back. Ironic that one of the most docile & peaceful of marine life...ppl swim holding on to them...defended itself & put this prick down. I'm against zoo's & keeping wild animals captive. Vegan & obviously fur!

I am the first person to say that everyone here is entitled to their opinion. Yourself included. But in this case all you have done is acted in very poor taste. This thread is meant to be a tribute to the man and one in which fond remembrances are displayed. If you disagree with his motives and the way he conducted himself, fine. Go start your own thread somewhere else. To come onto this thread and say the things that you have only show your insensitivity and your lack of manners. Please stop.

Please explain to me what his treatment of animals was exactly?

He assisted more animals and protected more animals than most of your peta pals do.

When people would kill animals that have entered a community, he would safely remove them and place them back into their natural habitat. When animals were injured he would help them.

From Wikpedia:

Irwin and his wife, Terri, shared the philosophy that in most instances, one may hunt, trap, and relocate most "problem crocodiles," defined as those who have come into conflict with humans, without harming them. Their programs reflect an approach centered around "human co-existence with wildlife," which is in sharp conflict with poachers and some other persons who also lay claim to the label "crocodile hunter."

Isn't that what PETA would want?

His treatment of animals was far better and more passionate than most humans are capable are.

He also educated people not only on the dangers of some animals but also showed that they too are important to the world.

I think he did a lot more to bring understanding about the proper treatment of animals on his show than the PETA people do by dressing up and chickens and shitting in a cage.

Call me crazy.

Have you seen his shows? While he educated kids, he did it by harassing the animals and their homes.

How would you feel if somebody broke into your home and started poking you with a stick and lifting you by your legs?

That totally sucks. But yeah, he was always riskin his life. He was only human.

Peace to his soul and his family.

Jack Hanna made the comment that 100% of Irwin's profits from all his endeavors went back into animal conservation. Irwin and his family lived a very non flashy lifestyle when they could clearly live like royalty. I'm sure he made a pretty penny on all the TV work he did, not to mention all the personal appearances for him and his wife.

ILLBFIRE, you're attitude is very representative of the typical lunatic PETA member (if you are really a member). I love animals more than anything on earth but I realize that in order to study them, some will have to be inconvenienced a little. We certainly can not just sit back and allow every animal species on earth do whatever it wants or we'd be quickly overrun. I never saw Steve Irwin do anything that was even remotely cruel to an animal. If you mean holding a snake up so the viewers could see it, well I hardly see that as cruel. Feeding meat to a huge croc in the zoo (even if he was holding his baby) so the visitors could be entertained is hardly cruel. I'm sure the croc enjoyed the tidbit.

From what I've read about the attack he was not even touching the ray. He was just swimming over it as it was partially burried in the sand and it flipped it's tail up and hit him in the chest with the barb. It was simply a freak accident and nothing more. It was not the result of him being cruel to an animal and he MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT deserve to die like that, no matter what a small pack of ignorant, childish fools around here think.

Sorry, but he had it coming. Anyone who wrestles with crocadiles and yellow-bellied African poison-dart frogs or whatever is living on the edge. I feel bad, but the guy had it comin'. My two cents.

RIP to the fella. :(
Will be greatly missed

Sad for his wife Terri and 2 kids now.. What kind of life is that to deal with, at age 5 and 8 I believe (his kids).

Very sad day

omg I can't believe people still claim proudly to be members of PETA in public anymore. so confident in my shock at this, i paste this link
http://www.petakillsanimals.com/
here without thoroughly perusing the website - it's one of the first that came up from a google of peta. I HAVE read that they break into labs where animals have been fed and nourished in safety for study, not for cruel-test-performances (although i DO acknowledge that animals are often treated cruelly in the hands of science) and set free into the wild where they have ZERO survival chances, having become accustomed to a safe life.

I smoke, so I know I've got it coming.

NEWS FLASH * we've all "got it coming" * NEWS FLASH

I admire the man for his impact on pop culture; I wish I was as well-thought of by the *rolls eyes* majority of people. The question is, what can I do before I die of lung cancer that will make such a positive impact?

make snide comments about the loss of a fellow human being?

just to be perfectly clear, allow me to succinctly state

PETA is full of morons

IMNSHO

(and i so rarely call my fellow human beings morons)

As a conservationist and preservationist, I have always liked Steve Irwin tremendously.

Yes, he was bigger than life, and sometimes it seemed that his enthusiasm outweighed his discretion, but he was a truly fine human being, and I will miss him, and his dedicaton to Australia, and to nature.

His children will, sadly, continue their lives without him, but, what if he had been killed in an auto accident? What if he had fallen down a flight of steps? The result for his children of not having their dad would be the same.

We will never be able to see how his life would have affected us, if he had lived (and this includes his children).

I hope that, over time, we will remember his enthusiasm, his ability to teach, and his love of his family and nature.

In the end, his life has made an impact on many of us. I truly hope that someone in his family or circle of friends will embrace helping to raise his children, and comfort his wife in their time of sorrow.

I am sure if the snake had a choice of being picked up and dangled so a few people can go "wow" or relaxing in his home, I say he would rather just be left alone.

As far as the other argument made, animals should not be in cages in the first place then maybe PETA would not have to free them.

p.s. PETA is full of people who care about the animals and not are not full of morons.

animals should not be in cages in the first place
i used to unthinkingly agree, but a couple of bouts of unemployment and homelessness got me to thinking about how nice a stint in jail could be. relatively lowered stressors, three squares and a dry bed?

I AM an animal, aren't i?

You know, PETA does nothing to help its cause. Instead of raising awareness for the protection of animals, they just make people say "wow, look at those idiots wrapping themselves in Saran Wrap and laying in a styrofoam dish with MEAT IS MURDER written on them" as they head off to McDonalds to order their double Quarter Pounders.

Shock value doesn't always work to your advantage.

As a matter of fact, I heard on the news just a few minutes ago that there been less than 20 deaths worldwide from stingray strikes over the last 20 years and some of those deaths were from resulting infections such as tetanus due to poor treatment for people in 3rd world countries.

Just how do you think we produce antivenom? I guess you would prefer the scientists ask the snakes to slither over on their own and deposit all their available venom into the cup?

PETA has been proven time and time again to be little more than a pack of media whores who have chosen "animal rights" as their preferred method of getting attention. It may have started out wanting to do the right thing for animals who truly needed their help, but the lunatics long ago took over in that organization.
