I know a lot of people seem to get really upset over the term "straight acting" and I noticed anyone that describes themself this way is automatically looked at as "self loathing" or "self hating". It seems like the push on the gay community to act effemenite is just as strong as the black community pushing black men to act ghetto, ganster or thug. Black people who don't act the part get called "acting white" or "oreo". In the gay community they get called "self loathing".

So if a gay guy doesn't want to conform to gay stereotypes why is that a bad thing?

I think everyone should mind their own shit and stop giving a damn about how others choose to present themselves; or choose not to if that's just who they are. It ain't no thang.
 
If you're gay, you're gay. There is no "straight" acting unless you present yourself as a womanizer.

Talk about being fucked up. As a kid I was teased by siblings for being a sissy. I tried to butch it up due to that pressure and even got married and had children. When I decided to come out I was attractive to gay men because they saw me as butch. What a head trip! I hot all this interest because I was tall, deep voice, big hands, etc.

All this labeling is confusing. I could be someone's sissy and at the same time be someone else's stud. I have to admit I liked that role reversal, but the whole notion didn't help in my coming out process.

there is no push to be effeminate. the reason that people consider you to be an idiot when you describe yourself as straight acting is simple: you say that you are ACTING, so that means you are the fucking queerest poofter whore of the town, but you don't want to have anything to do with those "fags", cause you wish to be seen as this straight macho guy. just that you aren't. that's what people despise. you distance yourself from "the queers" and insult them at the same time.

if you wish acceptance you should be accepting yourself. yes their are "femme" kind of guys. gay - and straight ones. if somebody looks enough (and everybody of your straight friends will once you come out) he will find some femme aspects in your personality and behavior, too. and i guess this is your fear.
a fear that you don't need to have if you just stop acting and be yourself.

What entertains me is that if gay men don't fit the mold of penis fits vagina, why we choose to follow anything else that was cast off that mold.

When an individual uses the term that's exactly what they are doing.

The stereotype is pervasive, but if it doesn't fit you, then it doesn't fit.
 
Insofar as I can see, the only way one can legitimately apply the term "straight acting" to oneself is if one happens to sleep with member sof the opposite sex. That is what straight means. There are no other universally applicable characteristics that define the condition, just as there are no universally applicable characteristics (barring the incidence of being attracted to and sleeping with members of the same sex) that define being gay.

What do exist are idiot socio-cultural constructs of masculinity and femininity that people actively apply to themselves in an attempt to live up to a proscribed template or have applied to them via external cultural influences.
 
If more people stopped trying to live up to or run away from a stereotype this wouldn't be an issue. Just be yourself.
 
One thingpeople need to realize is that ACTING and BEING are the same thing.

If someone tells me I'm ACTING like an asshole, it means Im BEING an asshole. It doesn't mean I'm a nice guy who is pretending to be an asshole.

anything done, being done, or to be done; deed; performance: a heroic act.
2. the process of doing: caught in the act.

We need to remember that words have more than one meaning. Though acting sometimes mean pretending, or putting on a false show, it can also mean nothin more than the way a person naturally behaves.
