Back in the late 80s, I worked in a group home for mentally impaired adults. One young man was prone to violent and destructive tantrums. We could do little more than to confine him to his bedroom and make certain that the other clients were kept safe. His tantrums always occurred during full moons.

I'm saying people's observations over the ages should at least indicate that at least some people go through some kind of hormonal change during full moon. Why is that so hard to believe?

There's a reason for the words 'lunacy' and 'lunatic'.

In other news, normal fire is hot to the touch.

I get really horny during full moons. But that's not usual for me. OK. I get hornier than normal during full moons.

I have the fantasy of being fucked out side under the stars while the moonlight shines on our naked bodies.

My apartment is at a T-intersection of four different bars and night clubs. I've always noticed that if the full moon falls on the weekend, people are even more nutso than regular drunk people.

Our bodies are 70% water so we get a little nutso at the full moon. But the women get a lot more nutso.

I don't think the full moon actually affects me... but then again, maybe someone else who comes in contact with me every day might be able to tell...

I worked in a gay bar for 20 years and I don't need a study to tell me that a full moon DEFINITELY affects some people. Why? Who the fuck cares...just fasten your seatbelt.

As the full moon affects tides and we are 50-75% water it isn't that much of a stretch.

A number of years ago, there was a study published that said they found evidence that people who work jobs where they are on call 24 hours a day are more stressed out than people who work normal 8 hour shift. Yeah, they needed a study to tell us the bloody obvious.

From an academic perspective, studies that prove or disprove seemingly obvious phenomena aren't really without value. They're necessary as a foundation for more complex research that will emerge in the future. I mean, it's not as if you can cite hunches or 'common knowledge' as the basis of increasingly sophisticated research; it really helps to have a truer understanding of these 'obvious premises' to use as a launch pad. You might think "well, duh!" when the research is published, but for academic pursuits it really is most necessary.

Also, a frequent exercise back in my Research Methods class was to find articles reporting on studies, seek out the study itself, then detail how the news article had misrepresented or misinterpreted the findings. It was to teach us that you never, ever trust the information given in an article when the actual source is so readily available. I don't have time right now to do a whole lot of reading, but even at face value the study seems relatively meaningless. The sample size is miniscule, the length of the testing was equally so, and there are no controls.

"The volunteers also took five minutes longer to fall asleep and slept for 20 minutes less when there was a full Moon."

This also seems to be within normal variation and is absolutely not conclusive as the article seems to suggest. The 'strong cultural ties' to the full moon don't necessarily add any weight to the premise either. Too many assumptions, too many logical leaps, and not enough research to put forth a claim like this. I might actually hunt down the study itself tomorrow if I have the time, but right now there's a hot tub with my name on it and it's only a short drive away.

Only anecdotal, but ERs/delivery rooms seem to be more active during a full moon. ;)

Well being a little weird on a full moon is understandable, who doesn't love full moons....?
