Nudity with clothed plays a huge role in most of human activities in which men engage - and most of which are NOT related to sex behavior. The role of nudity and being naked is a significant element of most all male group and male relationships - regardless of whether they are gay or straight or curious.


Not everyone who is interested in or turned on by the CMNM scene is gay, bi, or curious. CMNM is not simply a homosexual form of behavior. Actually, there are plenty of straight guys, who consciously or even subconsciously get some satisfaction from being naked or clothed with other naked men. It's really a sexual preference lifestyle issue, but some would call it a sexual fetish or perversion. However, in many ways, male nudity permeates almost all aspects of male-to-male relationships and influences the nature of masculinity and what it means to be a man.


Men use nudity and exposure of body parts or genitals to communicate affection, friendship, camaraderie, power /control, and even distain or disgust.


Being aware CMNM scenes and being turned on by them is subconscious for most males. We're just a select few who have recognized it as a separate way of psycho-sexual interaction and, for some personal or social stimulation.

Once you think more deeply about it, you'll be able recognize and see its effects in buddy-to-buddy friendships, sports and athletic camaraderie, male-bonding and growing up, rites of passages for young males, social events, public and private clubs and social organizations, schooling, and especially in the past - even the constant girl-chasing pack mentality of romance, male lust (and sex) and the antics and rituals associated with those. More recent acceptance of gays in society has meant that 'guy-chasing' and the behaviors around that once secretive activity are becoming more known. So CMNM (like CFNM - "clothed female-naked male") is becoming a recognized category of human sexual activity.

Being Naked in front of other Clothed Guys

What is CMNM?


CMNM = clothed male / naked male. It is a mild to extreme form of erotic stimulation that a male gets from being the naked one in front of other clothed men; or when a clothed male gets aroused by being in front of a naked man or several nude ones.

Types of CMNM

There are several major strands of the CMNM scenes.


1) Exhibitionist / Voyeur scenes -- So you can find photos and situations / experiences told from one of those perspectives -- It may be a proper event such as a triathlon - where runners strip naked while changing for another event, or your public streaking or street festival or event where public nudity is displayed.


2) Another big one is the BDSM - bondage and discipline scenes
Where guys are forced to strip and perform sexual acts for the pleasure other, mostly clothed men; in any case, there is an element of domination / control or submission / coercion without or not any 'pain'. Often NM admit to wanting to be humiliated.




3) Innocent or accidental buddy CMNM -- These are situations where gay and/or often straight men are unintentionally or accidentally nude or perhaps sometimes acceptably naked in front of other clothed men: camping, sports teams, the gym locker room, communal showers, etc

4) Genre CMNM or a categorized fetish for one type of situation or clothing and the lack of clothes -- such as a medical fetish, nudity in military situations, male striptease performers, erotic massage, etc. When the situation or specific object itself assumes an importance in the sexual gratification we can call it a CMNM fetish or genre of CMNM - for example, some guys crave being examined naked by a clothed doctor or start utilizing male sensual masseurs because of the erotic stimulation of being massaged by a clothed male while naked.

Obviously, a person can have strong feelings and desires for more than one type of CMNM and the boundaries do overlap or blur.

I love being naked outdoors and often do so when there is a patch of land or a bushy area along side a river or a section of recreational land. If men are already sunbathing someplace, then just find a more hidden place in the same area and take it a step further: remove all your clothes and cover your privates. When no one is around, you can remove the covering.

In my trips to Thai, Singapore and Malaysia, I can recall a few places where this might happen, such as Sentosa Island, or a bit further afield - take a ferry or boat to one of the Indonesian islands not far from Singapore. I realize that an important element may be missing when you simply go out and get naked alone. One of the most fun things about nude beaches is not only about being seen in the nude. It's also the chance to see others (especially men) in all their naked glory. You can't always do both at the same time. There must be places and events where men in various Asian countries are naked or dressing / undressing so take advantages of those spots even if you can't be naked yourself at the same time.

I have just joined a gay social networking and news media site for men in Asian called Fridae.com - one of their tribes (discussion groups) is the Nudist and Naturalist Networks. Here is what I added to several responses concerning: Where in Asian can a guy go to a nudist beach?

In Japan, there are only two places where guys (mostly gay men) go as a nude beach (one in Chiba, and the other is a deserted spot on Shonan Beach). Neither are well known by the general public partly because they are so hard to find, and far from Tokyo. Also, it's not like Black's Beach or ones in other Westernized countries, people get naked very discreetly even on a supposedly nude beach. They generally wear swimwear when walking around or when in the water, but remove their clothes while lying in the sun.


The next best thing to a nude beach then is a hot springs resort or a public bathing spa, the latter of which there are over 50 in Tokyo. In these, men and women have separate bathing areas. Often, there is a small outside areas (enclosed by a fence for privacy) where the naked men can soak in a pool of mineral waters or lounge naked or draped in a towel. Inside, there are various types of baths, but the men are usually totally naked when walking to and from each pool and when they sit on stools at individual showers for washing body and hair. Many of them have wet and dry saunas.

So, despite their being little interest in nude beaches, Japanese are often fond of such warm mineral baths, and even travel to stay in the many areas of the country where there are nice resort hotels grouped around these hot springs, such as Hakone.

However, you don't have to go far from any metropolitan area to enjoy the same atmosphere of men enjoying being naked. Formerly, there were the old-fashioned public baths or 'sento' in every neighorhood, which have just about disappeared these days, being replaced by large, more modern and luxurious: bathing resort (or 'onsen' - hot springs bath or spa).​

The water has a higher content of minerals, particularly sodium (salt) and it's either brought in or created, but in sometimes comes naturally from the ground as Japan is a set of volcanic islands, also prone to earthquakes, as everyone knows.​

Well... for those in Malaysia or Singapore, and other places where there are not naked places, you can do what I often do: Make your own nude beach by just getting naked where the general public cannot see (easily).​

So maybe you need to work on your image. I'm not saying your self-image needs work.. it's up to you to decide that. But maybe you should try a make-over. That is try out a significant change in your looks, attitude, fashion or behavior and see what effect it has on people. It will likely also have a pretty big effect on you, too, once you see how people react to and notice you differently.


As an example, I sometimes try an experiment at my school. Being a college professor I can pretty much dress as I like: jeans and t-shirt, three-piece suit, ethnic attire (kilt or Japanese yukata), or just casual khaki pants, shirt and jacket. Of course, I'm (mostly) freeballing in any and all of these. However, it can notice a difference from the very fact that I dress differently -- even though no one may draw attention to the fact that they even notice the change. People's eyes move to places and parts of me that I hadn't noticed them doing so before, or people who normally don't greet me will, all of a sudden, say 'Good morning.' and even start casual conversations.

So you should try it out first -- without freeballing as an issue -- first of all. Find out how much you do or don't like the extra attention. If you find you like it, then your own self-image will change, and consequently, so will your confidence to freeball (or not), and to be your own person.

Of course, good hygiene, clearing up skin acne, a nice haircut and a little styling, trimming down or buffing up the body using by getting a good diet of the big 5 and regular exercise, as well as a little muscle and stamina training will also do wonders.


Finally, I suggest you try my long standard 'wardrobe fix'. Here's the way it works:


Wear open front boxers under your sweats, but then pull your cock and balls through the open fly in the boxers and pull them up. You'll feel a little constriction which might make your cock swell up and fill out. I've seen him for several years on that discussion board as an active communicator about the issue (or hobby) of freeballing. Now, he's a college student and has a different set of concerns. Traditionally, Japanese men (and there are some people who do still) wear the yukata and its shorter version (the happi coat) as casual wear -- although mostly it is only during the summer and fall festivals, but a few for daily wear especially during the hot humid summer season. Under the yukata -- and sometimes ONLY without even the yukata-- is worn the traditional Japanese loincloth called the "fundoshi." It is not exactly underwear because it can be worn as swimwear or beach wear, as festival gear, and as an undergarment for a yukata (or kimono). Normally, only men wear a fundoshi, but some guys think it is very sexy for women to wear them .. so you sometimes see women in porno wearing a fundoshi.

Fundoshi is not really about freeballing -- it is a wrap that curls up from behind and under and can even tightly bind your balls, but it certainly does not leave much to the imagination once in place. There are a couple of styles - -the one for festivals is often twisted into a knotty rope like a thong and rides up the crack of your ass. There are a few different types of 'fundoshi' style (Japanese loincloths). I guess you might say they are more like "freebutting" instead of freeballing, but what the hell, I think they look pretty cool. This photo above shows a guy's full body tatoo (irezumi) -- still quite popular with a certain segment of the Japanese -- it was strongly associated with gangsters (yakuza) but less so nowadays. I wish it were easy to tell you where to find photos of men in uniform. While there are some sites devoted to sexual activities of military men - I don't actually really collect those and won't be posting them here - -since that's not what this site is about. I don't know of any one source that would have so many photos of men in uniform (who are freeballing) - unless you are willing to pay to join (which I am not).
I found these in various places: Yahoo groups, also just by searching Google images, others were mixed in with some other photos -- like someone's private gallery on their personal web page. Justusboys.com allows members to keep up to hundreds of photos to share with others (a free service). You sometimes run across a few in the amateurs self-postings or discussion boards, such as dudesnude.com


It took a bit of searching and also over an extended period of time.
What I typically do is to save photos I run across on the net by category (or even in multiples categories - like a red head, military guy in uniform who is freeballing (or exposing). I have different folders for main categories and then make sub-folders. I tend to like photos that are realisitic with guys who are genuinely engaged in whatever they're doing -- whether freeballing while shopping or strolling through town or goofing off in the lockerroom, or pulling some antics -- like mooning at a frat party, etc. I also tend to get stimulated by one (or two) certain categories so I'll look for and save those types of photos for a while -- that's what's happened recently with uniforms and guys in boardshorts. I know flashing is something more than freeballing and not everyone who visits and participates in this site and in freeballing may personally approve or ever consider it, but accept the fact that some people freeball because it is only one layer away from liberating nudity -- that doesn't mean real exhibitionism -- like jacking off or abusing someone's innocence. Freeballing crosses lifestyle, and gender orientation barriers


Freeballing may remind us of the tension / difference between gay and straight but it is something that brings us together more than it separates.
The interaction on the discussion threads illustrates something I really love about freeballing.com -- I find that freeballing.com is one of the few sites on the Internet as a 'virtual community' and may also be one of the few actual 'communities' where men of all ages, gender preferences and persuasions (including moral and religious) freely mix and interact -- where, for the most part, there is little moralizing or discrimination one way or another.
But again, it may have more to do with how you perceive yourself and your own identity (sexual and beyond). While it may not be readily obvious, what appears to be "conflicts" between members are for the most part handled in a fairly mature and progressive manner.
The real nature of human gender identity and the complexities of male sexuality all come into play here. But no one is blasting away with "I hate faggots" or accusing straight men of being anything else just because we all freeball or show off our sexuality or bond with the people with whom we have a strong affection. I know I'm intellectualizing -- so let me try to make it less academic but still get my point across -- if I can. Freeballing is an act of freeing yourself (at least from one point of view that sounds simplistic -- however, it may be a lot more and a more significant kind of self-liberating act. I think one of the reasons it is considered an alternative practice is because it represents also freeing oneself from the unnatural boundaries forced upon us about our sexual/emotional identities as men in society that is rapidly evolving. By all rights, somehotwink and hungteenfb have NO obligation to try to defend their relationships with their cousins (or younger friends or whomever). I am glad that they do and can -- that is one of the values of this discussion board. I think we should all listen to what people are saying (believe me - it is hard to write in a few sentences enough to explain), and not try to interpret what they are not saying.


I just know that I can get on a philosophical high horse and come across like an academic geek sometimes when I get started writing - especially if I feel I am championing justice and liberty -- that's what we should call it -- libertyballing -- taking up and defending one's right to freeball and fraternalize -- bonding with one's band of fellow men - irrespective of age and without the necessity of any sexual gratification (not 'fraternize' - that's something different.) [ Sorry this probably belongs in a separate blog entry but I'm too lazy/rushed to that now.]



Cross-cultural Perspective on Freeballing


I wonder how many other national costumes or traditional clothes allow for freeballing?
I've spent a lot of time in Japan and a few other countries where the national costume -- kimono or yukata (light summer informal kimono with fundoshi (loin cloth)) (at least it remains one of the traditional ways that some people dress --especialy for festivals or typical Japanese cultural events) does make freeballing sort of accepted.
As I said in an earlier post (Scottish singer in a kilt), I wonder how many national / native or traditional costumes make it easy (or not) to freeball and perhaps to catch a glimpse. We've seen that many guys wearing kilts do not have anything on underneath.


I have lived at times in Japan and still have strong connections to it. I find the kimono and in particular the yukata give a great opportunity to freeball. The traditional kimono, which is really as formal nowadays as a tuxedo and not worn very often at all, does not work out very well for freeballing -- mainly because it is worn for ceremonial events and people are not likely to move around much. The kimono is also worn tightly bound and can have several undergarments and belts (obi) so that it is not likely to come open. Damn, it must even be difficult to take a leak or squat to use the bathroom. However, the yukata is quite a bit different. It is a casual summer kimono-like one piece outfit -- typically worn for festivals and as night wear / indoor wear at hotsprings resorts and fine hotels.

Is freeballing for me a type of more or less 'innocent' flashing -- like the way a woman might show cleavage or wear a mini-skirt and high heels?

Loving to be with guys who are naked (or being naked with guys who aren't).... that's the core of what CMNM (clothed male / naked male) situations are all about.


Some (of us) are really in to it.. and seek out such situations whenever possible - of course, it's a gay thing for many of us.


By the way, it is NOT ONLY about homosexual attraction. I could go on and on... but men need (and enjoy) using nudity between themselves and in groups of men (like sports teams, fraternity, army/military, clics and groups of buddies, while in temporary all male situations, such as camping, scouting, etc) and have done it since the beginning of societies... (I'm not talking physical desire or lust between men) to express friendship, belonging to a group, male affection and camaraderie, and dependence/interdependence, control/authority, loyal, leadership, bravura/machismo, and platonic or brotherly love.


I think almost every guy has some times (or even a lot) when he wants to see them naked or be seen naked by his buddies. It's part of identifying with being a man. We've had this discussion in bits and pieces many times on this forum before. When you absolutely 'need' to be naked or be the clothed guy around naked ones (for various reasons - different for every person) then you are said to be into CMNM or have it as a fetish (if you need it to get off).




I've gone forward (evolved?) in exploring CMNM in myself, and also socially. I have set up many online CMNM groups, and have been trying to organize off-line real CMNM events, meet-ups, parties, etc.

There was also a lot of trash (beer cans, wigs, and pieces of costumes) left on the trains - because most everybody was drinking or already drunk by the time the wide train parade got going (typically on a Friday or Saturday night). Urban Stress Relief or Sexual Molestation - Riding Tokyo's Trains

As you have no doubt heard, there are now Women-Only train cars on the some of the public and private train and subway lines in Tokyo - it's an attempt to prevent sexual groping (men abusing women or teenage girls). They operate these cars mainly during peak rush hours. Yet, I wonder if the authorities realize that they may be encouraging male-male groping behavior by reducing the ratio of women on train cars.


When I lived there and travel to Tokyo, I found it somewhat erotic - although more frequently just plain frustrating and irritating -- to be crammed together like sardines in a train car. Especially during morning rush hour, there is invariably a time when your body or someone else's in pressed up against your front, back or side. Most people try to appear oblivious and just pull in their appendages, and bear it (not bare it), but there seem to be quite a few men (both str8 and otherwise) who seem to enjoy it.

I have had my share of being groped or at least rubbed provocatively by Japanese men on trains. Some of it, of course, is completely accidental. However, there were times when it definitely was not so innocent or at least was mutually pleasant -- to put it mildly.


One time I could feel the guys cock rubbing against my leg - I am taller than many Japanese men (altthough younger men are getting taller and taller as the years go by). He was obviously enjoying the sensation because as we rode along and the train just got more crowded, he proceeded to get a full on erection.

Another, I was on the Keio line leaving Shinjuku at night and it was very crowded. 1) The dunes of Maspalomas, near Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria, Spain. The Canary Islands are Spanish territories off the coast of Morocco. There is tons of gay semi-public and sometimes heterosexual sex going on in the dunes just behind the large nude beach (FKK) area.





2) There are dozens (if not more) nude beaches around Spain (from Barcelona to Cadiz). Also on the eastern coast of Spain, there are several nude beaches and gay cruising areas. I was pleasantly surprised with I visited Gandia (a university town along the beach about 40 minutes from Valencia) to find a nude beach that also has some gay cruising. It was located between Gandia and Xeraco, called Playa De L'Ahuir.


Very often you can expect to see a gay men’s cruising area close by and therefore, sometimes you can view sexual acts by people (supposedly gay men) who either don’t know or who don’t care.

3) Sometimes the parking lots at large beachside resorts become a sexual playground for a few adventure-some couples. Normally, only male-female couples can actually get away with it. But it does happen between men when there are the right circumstances - such as a full moon or when there is a nude beach nearby.


I watched a mixed race couple (M/F) fuck in the parking lot to Black’s Beach (along with quite a few other people) across from UCSD campus. It was really hot watching a big dick-clubbed black dude butt-pound from behind a white woman with her bikini rolled down her legs, whom he either had just picked up on the nude beach, or with whom he had been ‘overstimulated’ by spending an afternoon out on the nude beach (mixed sexes).

Well, it's partly gaydar.. or rather the basic hunting instinct of the male of the species. The place just seems right or you can feel the vibe of the cruisers mentality as you walk down a certain street or alley, enter a public park or seek out a less crowded corner of a local recreation area or beach. Public restrooms figure prominently in these zones of the sexual hunter. Perhaps not simply because they do offer a vehicle for 'semi-public' exposure of one's sexual and, obviously, excretory organs. But it may be the associations, and the fact that men have just handled or are about to touch their own privates which may heighten their sexual awareness of others - particularly the men that are experiencing similar sensuous emotions - even when they can be put in actual words or envisioned in their minds as any kind of defined sexual act.

The ambiance of the gay cruise area may residence in such factors as: location, convenience, proximity to other male or gay-oriented spots (Home Depot's tool department, garden shop and its restrooms may be notorious in this respect), whether or not the male body can be exposed as normally accepted behavior, such as a public or university gymnasium locker room, or public swimming pool, or whether there is some chance of seeing the naked male body or at least parts of it (such as a beach, or sunbathers on grassy lawn in a big city park, or where even more explicit male (and/or female) nudity occurs, such as a strip club, or nude beach or clothing optional resort or camp, or at some public large-group events where nudity may be involved, such as Mardi Gras and Carnival, etc.

For me, pissing with my friends was a way to share a common sense of our gender - boys being boys and baring all meant we could also afford to share other things - like our feelings and fears and joys and sometimes pleasures.

Yes I do all the time - I never go inside. We have a severe drought here in Australia - even down here in Tasmania (the little island at the bottom of Australia) we are on tank water and if it saves 15 litres of water per flush, I am going to pee outside.

I was talking about this the other day with a couple of younger men - who love camping and hiking and who said they always felt great taking a piss while out in nature and the wide open. We agreed that it was almost compelling to take a leak while in the great outdoors. I think it's an ancestral male behavior - marking our territory like today's canines and our other four-footed brethren- perhaps dating from our primordial pre-human forms as earlier species (enough of that hypothesizing).

It does feel good to take a piss outdoors - I try to do it at least once a day. I think that when we are growing up - especially in societies where knowledge or view of bodily functions is suppressed (like puritanical America or some religiously-repressed nations (not to be named)), we don't get a much of a chance to see the hidden and darkly secretive 'word' of the penis/pissing/etc.. so those basic human body functions are shrouded in mystery and probably also get more sexual attachment than they would or should deserve.
