In general, people in the sports world keep their political leanings to themselves. Sure, there are a few guys who regularly speak out on political issues, but for the most part that's considered bad business. As Michael Jordan put it, "Republicans buy shoes too." That's why what the Phoenix Suns are doing is so amazing.

The team will be wearing its "Los Suns" jerseys for Wednesday night's Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs "to honor [the] Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation." Awesome.

The decision to wear the jerseys came from way up the corporate ladder, as team owner Robert Sarver suggested the team wear their Noche Latina alternates.

Usually I feel celebrities should stay out of politics for their own sake, but it is nice to see some stand up for what they believe in when prudent.

Makes sense to me. The NBA is full of thugs . . . carrying guns into the locker room, drugs, rape, etc.

Illegal aliens are criminals too - they break the law by coming into the USA illegally. Some murder, carry drugs.

PERFECT MATCH.

And once again.

Jack Springer's cloaca makes a noise.

Well, hooray for the Suns! Sanity is not COMPLETELY extinct in Arizona!

Sounds like the Suns are sucking up well.

And Bear Magus is there with his lips up tight to catch Jack Springer's expulsion as it exits his ass.

And point to JyStar.

I'm gonna assume they'll just deport anyone who shows up for that game...

I always liked "Los" and "Las" better then "the." Sounds more elegant to the ears.

I'm for it. I mean, it doesn't say "Los Suns Ilegales." I'm sure Arizona has many legal Latinos that would appreciate the show of support.

Which they need because the legal Latinos are going to be harassed by this stupid fascist law.

Blame your ancestors - the original illegal aliens.

Maybe them pesky mexi's are learning the American example?

And why are you and scrapple crawling in here? Get back in CE&P where you republicunt trolls belong.

Dude - look up the word illegal in the dictionary. You might learn something . . . . but somehow, I doubt it.

I had to look it up. I can't think of anything witty to say and I'm not going to stoop low and call you names or degrade you.

Instead, I'm going to wish you a good life.

Again, I ask that this stuff be posted in CE&P, where it belongs. Posting it in Hot Topics only brings arguments, insults, and animosity. Shit started on political threads spills over into other threads and poisons the whole forum! :help:

And you know this to be fact, of course.

How do you think the cops will tell a legal Latino from an illegal one before asking them for their papers? Asking them for their papers is harassment (since they won't ask accentless white people for theirs).

Unless the law is not enforced at all (as will be the case in Tucson, which has already declared non-compliance), how do you think harassment of legal Latinos will be avoided?

When an action has bad consequences, and you foresaw or ought to have foreseen those consequences, you chose the consequences. The legislature and governor of Arizona have chosen to harass their state's Latino population (legal and ill). That makes them racists by definition.

Nice. Jumping directly from Latino to illegal. Classy.

You are aware, aren't you, that Arizona used to be part of Mexico? Lots of Latino families have been living in Arizona since before it was US territory.

Moreover some of them still speak Spanish. Hooda thunkit, right? People always "progress" from speaking Spanish to speaking English, don't they?

Well, no, they don't. (LilBit, I know you know this. Amplifying you, not disagreeing.)

Hmm, I am still waiting on some of the Republicans in CEP to explain how I as a Latino person will not be harrassed by the police in Arizona even though my family has been the USA well since it was a Spanish Colony. Hmm, I guess it is okay to harass us because we have brown skin. I guess that also means that I should not speak Spanish even though I have spoken both Spanish and English since birth.

I really wish one of them would answer this question. Does it make the racist over tones of this law too pronounced for them if they have to say, oh, it is because you have brown skin.

Since they can't answer it, they ignore it. Then they say they don't hear any real objections, and keep acting like we're trying to protect the right of Mexican drug lords to go to Arizona and kill innocent ranchers.

They've lost this one, and they know it. That's why they're acting this way. Pay them no mind.

Umm, the problem is that just because I am Latino it gives them enough cause to think I am criminal being an illegal immigrant. And, yes, the historic legacy of Spanish and Mexican Colonization of the USA is very important not to forget as this is getting too common. Never mind along with the Spanish there were plenty of Moors and Jewish person, yes that means Muslim people were part of the people that settled the New World.

So, yes it is relevant. Maybe they can also change the name of Arizona to Mc Cain, and take away all the Spanish names of towns and cities and make it more authentically US American.

What is the problem? I do not want to be harrassed or treated as a criminal in the country of my birth for something as arbirtary as skin color is that really so complicated to understand.

Or, perhaps that the overwhelming majority of persons in the Prison System in the USA are minorities and it is not reflective of the population as a whole.

Or, perhaps, I am fearful of citizen vigilantism. The law is written so vague and an ignorant ass cop or bigot and make unfounded acquisitions and cause nothing but trouble for us.

Never mind if this very vague law is not enforced that cops can get fired. How you enforce such a vague law is beyond me other than stopping any and every brown skinned person and demand to see their papers.

Would a drivers liscence be enough or do I need a birth certificate? Hey, a birth certificate is not enough for Obama so I doubt it would be enough for me because those things can be forged.

Or, what about just going out with friends or a business contact or whatever and being stopped and having to be embarrassed and asked to provide proof of Citizenship. But, anyhow, perhaps it is too complicated to understand. Or, did you bother to read the details of the law and are just reacting blindly too people concerned about how this law will be enforced.

If you are in the US legally, as you say, then why are you so concerned about being harassed? It won't be a problem for you. For others whom the law applies to, it would be.

The truth is that everyone is profiled if they are perceived as a threat. There has been an illegal immigration issue for quite some time concerning Mexico and its borders, so I don't see how this law negatively affects your life or the lives of others who are exempt from it.

The law requires the police to check immigration status if they have any suspicion the person might be illegal. They will be stopping brown-skinned, Spanish-speaking US Citizens and checking their papers.

If you want to live in a society where you have to carry papers all the time, America is not the country for you. If you don't, you have no right to expect brown-skinned, Spanish-speaking citizens to be willing to.
