Supernatural / Jensen Ackles / Jared Padelecki [merged]

There's a difference between nodding and pandering and sadly SPN crossed that line a couple seasons ago where it stopped being clever and started bordering on glorified fan fiction incarnate. Fantasies are great and all but characters should act to serve THEIR purposes as independent entities not the fans and not the writers. Entire story elements need not be shoe horned in for a giggle inducing scene if they break with the continuity or characterization that a scene is meant to achieve.

I love the show as a whole and the people in it very much (including most the behind the scenes people) but CW has a habit of dragging shows out long after they SHOULD be dead and I wish they'd put SPN out of it's misery so I could see what wonderful things the writers and actors I love would do if they were given new shows and fresh material rather than running the same story into the ground for the hundredth time.

Yeah I have to agree with you SN there storylines are kinda stale, but I still love Dean he cracks me up, Sam has been through so much shit until I dont think the writers dont know how to make him act anymore. I will admit every episode hasnt been that great this season but there have been a few good ones, SN still isnt as bad as Smallville in its last season. When the show comes back frm break I think I saw Cass coming back from the previews I saw.

whaat season 8 starts in 10 days

thats no t true

Is anyone excited for the new season starting in a couple of weeks? I know I am!

This summer, on my days off, I watched the entire series from season one on...pretty good stuff. Let's just say, I'm totally hooked.

I certainly am.... I know a lot of fans aren't happy with the consistency of the show since the fifth season but even with some down moments the Winchesters are all kinds of awesome. Hopefully with Jeremy Carver handling head writing duties the stories will be tighter and have less of the occasional "Are we there yet?" feel but I'm optimistic we're in for a great ride!

I absolutely loved how they ended season 5 and honestly think that if it did end there, it would have been perfect. Season 6 was only a decent follow up but I think season 7 was a lot better and there was actually a lot of good humor in it too. I am excited for more Supernatural but kind of wary of where they're going to take it, cause it seems like they're running out of places to go.

Honestly, for me, the show's pretty much just been a medium for my Jared appreciation for the last few seasons. Hopefully they've somehow stepped things up for the coming season, but either way, I'm there. Hell, I sit through almost every airing of the Friday the 13th remake--and that shit really is one of the worst fucking movies ever, but my boy looked ridiculous hot as usual, so I can deal with it lol.

Yep, I don't want them to go on for ten seasons or something like that just because Smallville(which did kind of lose its way in later seasons at times) did. I generally liked last year, but it may be near time to finish it while it doesn't look contrived and gimmicky. Supposedly the boys really get on Crowley's bad side this season and more Crowley is more fun... Mark A Sheppard is just wonderful as the new King Of Hell. I do hope when all is said and done God is brought back into the picture for all the mess he's allowed to go forward in his absence..... in the Supernatural universe God has a lot to answer for...and deserves a few fuck yous at least!;)

Oh yeah, Genevieve Cortese being tapped to replace the awesome Katie Cassidy as Ruby definitely caused consternation for many Supernatural fans(though interestingly enough, not Jared who married her a couple of years back);)I love the actress Rachel Miner who plays sassy demon Meg....I agree the shows characters work because for the most part they really are well cast. One other character I had trouble with was the grandfather to Dean and Sam played by Mitch Pileggi who I love but the character who had been pulled down from heaven and pressured to work for Crowley didn't work very well at all. He was so cold and unfeeling towards his grandsons....his wrath for Mary's death were his own flesh and blood,he'd see them die if he could get his daughter back....how would she feel about the harm her father would allow to happen to her own boys? She gave her life to keep them both safe, especially Sam who the demons were especially eager to get their hands on. Then the writers just offed him in midseason, as his character was written into a corner he had become so loathesome.

I'm excited for the new season. I've read a few spoilers and I like the overall story arc but where do they go next?

I like the idea of bringing God back in the picture. That could be interesting.

On a sidenote, I believe I have found my two favorite episodes. And ironically they are from Season 6. 'Weekend at Bobby's' and 'The French Mistake' are easily the best episode they've done (well, besides season 5 finale).

"Weekend at Bobby's" was great.... loved Rufus and Sheriff Mills interplay with Bobby, and of course the humor, the interplay with Crowley, the boys standing behind Bobby against Crowley....it really worked so well on a nmber of levels. "The French Mistake" was superb, love the self-referencing nods and in jokes that the fans loved. Two really good episodes ... don't know if they're the best but certainly among them!

I believe there will be an episode dealing with Dean and Castiel's time in purgatory, though from what was shown in snippets last night we know it was very rough and unpleasant. A nice opener, not as explosive as last year's introducing the Leviathan threat but seeing that Crowley will be the central bad guy is very interesting as he will use all at his disposal to prevent Kevin(the young prophet) and the Winchester boys from banishing the demons back to hell and sealing the doorway to hell forever. With all the times the boys have been dead and back funny to see Dean adamantly proving he was really himself to Sam once they were reunited. Interesting to see developing that purgatory resident who had Dean's back and got him out through that special portal for humans designed by God(as humans it was revealed are not meant to remain in Purgatory)....what he does now he has his life back and has to deal with humanity again.

I have caught up with the first two episodes and am trying to catch up with the others.

Episode 1.
I think the showrunners were trying to get to the point rather than linger too much on schmoozing the fans with reunion overload. Sure there are some familiar elements from seasons past that have returned; Dean back from another realm of existence, the lapse in time. Some elements have been turned on their side such as Sam's turn to have a life outside of hunting and not looking for Dead which sort of mirrors Dean's life back at the start of S6.

I found the new character of Benny an interesting and mysterious addition to the line up, let's hope he isn't a big disappointment.
I felt that the Kevin character has grown since last season and I love that Crowley is back to being a big nasty.
The big questions raised in this episode were why and how are Dean and this Benny so close?
What happened to Castiel and is he truly caput this time around?

Episode 2.
I actually enjoyed this episode more than the first episode because it had more fun elements to it. The flashbacks are an interesting way of peeking back into what happened with Dean and his new pal Benny and of Castiel's whereabouts.
I liked the addition of Kevin's mom but felt she was kind of scuttled away too soon. She was starting to remind me that other characters can be just as ace as Sam and Dean. I hope the writers see this and give room for new characters to flourish instead of parading around characters that we have seen before and who have very little relevance to the story anymore. Bobby is gone, at least for now and I don't miss him all that much.

BTW. I hope Sam was smart enough to keep Thor's Hammer for a rainy day. There were a lot of items still lingering in that place that it would have been stupid for them not to lift any of them for future use later. It could also offer more story elements for the writers if they went that route. Such as the original owners and or relic hunters/traders coming after them for that stolen property.

Btw, does anyone think Sam's reluctance to close the gates of hell have anything to do with him having some demon in him?
I mean, is that even still on the table at this point?

The new showrunner Jeremy Carver has promised a three season arc and I do hope that he gets to tell that arc. Sure, stinker episodes are to be expected but most tv shows have them anyway. I just hope that viewers quit whining for once and allow the show to grow beyond the fan service that has suffocated the show.
I can only hope that Castiel is finally put to bed this season out. It seems that Bobby has been put to sleep for good too so we shall see.
New characters need a chance to shine and I felt Ep.2 reminded us of that, Mrs. Tran was ace until they took her spinach away.

Why do female badasses get a tough time on this show?

:)

I like doing any tv series as a marathon and find it is fun that way too. However, I have been trying to keep up with the latest episodes. I know I will be pissed off come mid-season break.

As for the series stretching out to season 10, I stopped worrying about stuff like that and leaving it to the showrunners to bring out some surprises and generally bringing newer and bolder ideas with each season. So bring it on! :)

I know I'm a little late but I just started watching the show and finished 5 episodes so far.

So far I've only liked two of them but I hear the show gets better in season 2 so I'm gonna give it a chance.

Of course there is enough eye candy to keep me watching until then :) I love the chemistry between the guys.

The 2nd and 4th were voted the best seasons on this big poll I found.

Even if I stop liking it after the 4th... I still have like a 100 episodes to watch until I have to cross that bridge :D

This week has the return of last season's delightful lesbian superhacker Charlie Bradbury, played by Felicia Day(besides being a well liked genre actress is also big in the internet community as well). Seems to be a little lighter fare (set in a Renaissance fair with a nasty twist, of course).

The Wincest thing is funny to me, but the chemistry even if not sexual is there between the leads. The writers have even poked fun at the Wincest phenomenon a few times...there's always a lot of wink, wink fun in the scripts. That gif posted by Laufey indeed is hot, and I cannot deny that the guys really have that factor that motivate my libido some, though the characterizations and relationships between the Winchester boys, Bobby, Castiel and others really are why I'm hooked on the show. Seems to be settling into a good phase now though the past two seasons were hit and miss. Still, uneven or not SPN is still often fun and compelling.

Really liked tonight's episode, and the ending was fun to see(no spoilers here). Charlie Bradbury( Felicia Day) is a great kick ass character and though this episode was a diversion from the really dark stuff facing the Winchesters it was a pretty damn entertaining one!

I don't know it was just me but for some reason I thought that Dean just looked extra hot his ren faire attire.
