Survivor 21: Nicaragua

People would definitely watch w/o Jeff. People do not watch for him. He's definitely no Simon. Ryan Seacrest on the other hand was completely disposable. it baffles me that they chose to pay him more than Paula. A monkey could do Seacrest's job or Jeff Probst's.

I agree with Pepper. The show would not have survived as long without Jeff. He is an institution. I don't always like the way things come out but I am not ready to trade him in.

Apparently Jeff was the person who pushed hard for the true twist of S22 (and I don't mean Redemption Island), so I do think the production team values his input.

To which I say: :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Though realistically, I do think that the casual fans would miss him if the show continued without him as the host. I sure as hell wouldn't. Hell, I think the show would improve tenfold without his biased recaps, tedious challenge commentary, Tribal Council involvement and tendency to ignore anybody who lacks a penis both during the show and at the reunions.

I like Jeff, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he was gone.

He probably only wants one so he can masturbate at the thought of Marquesas' Hunter and Gina (one of his few female obsessions).

Still, I'd watch that and probably enjoy it more than the crap we're getting for S22. I demand more crazy Wendy Jo from this season in such a scenario. <3

^^ Um I started to like him a wee bit more too but don't kid yourself, we'll never see Sash again. He's unpopular, and he didn't leave enough of an impression to warrant an unpopular return. Potential reruns from this season include Brenda, Marty, Jane (ugh) and Naonka (double ugh).

What does POPULARITY have to do with anything?

We've had a shit load of returning players and um most of them were either "unpopular" or "undeserving"

True he's not popular but he'd be deserving of coming back again :)

I had and still have a lot of nostalgic love for Gina (and it doesn't hurt that a girl who worked at my local pizza place was named Gina and LOOKED like her), but it diminished after I rewatched Marquesas and realized that the Sarah/Gina feud was completely one-sided on Gina's end. And it was totally hilar how Sarah was completely unaware of Gina's dislike for her, even being all "I hope Gina wins the most lol ^_^!" in her final words.

I want the next gimmick season to have an entire tribe of returning older crazy ladies. There are so many potential lulzy contestants! It'd be the best. tribe. EVER.

Exactly. Anyone who watched the show this season knows that this is objectively true. It's a fact that Jud wasn't in on every vote and strategy, and it's a fact that he only made it to the end by winning three immunites in a row. Nothing wrong with that, and good for him, but I can understand then how someone like Alina would view that as unimpressive and vote for Chase instead.

I'm just disappointed that Naonka didn't vote for her buddy, which would have given us an awesome upset and a sweet/surprising victory for Chase.

there are IMO no undeserving winners of Survivor. However you do it, if you win 5 votes from the jury, you deserve to win.

They owe much of the show's 21 seasons of success to Jeff. I know many people can't stand him. Sometimes he rubs me the wrong way too. But I seriously doubt we would be going into the 22nd season if Jeff had left the show a long time ago. After this long, he is just an integral part of the show whether you like him or not. The show's producers obviously think he is extremely important to the show (which is also why they let him co-produce the show.;))

I completely disagree. Jeff does his job, one that any capable host could do.

I disagree with this completely. Jeff is 0% of the reason I watch the show and most fans seem to care/love facets of the show that have nothing to do with him. If he had been replaced by another host at any point, I doubt the show would falter. This isn't Simon Cowell to American Idol.

..| to both posts! The die-hards would still have watched even if Jeff left after, oh, say, Vanuatu. IMO, the fans love the game. Plain and simple.

Vanuatu was around the time that Jeff became increasingly obnoxious at his job, IMO. He was actually tolerable in the seasons before ASS.

On a different note, Jill from this season posts at Sucks and she revealed that Jimmy J. had asked the entire Espada tribe to vote him out before they went to tribal council. ("He said "Guys, I've had enough." and we all said "Really?" and he said "Yes." Note that his vote was unanimous, when other people clearly wanted Dan gone. Only one way that happens.") Essentially, he quit. And I find this so funny because Jeff and production were so harsh on Na'onka and Kelly and gave them two different shades of horrible edits because they quit (Na'onka getting a never-ending OTTNNNNN5 edit and Kelly getting the most invisible edit in 21 seasons and no screentime at the reunion) whereas Jimmy J. was the result of stunt casting, basically quit and got the most focus in the first three episodes, was credited as like the sole purpose of anything positive that Holly did the entire season, and got a 15 minute segment at the reunion despite being the third boot.

Double standards, much?

LOL this gif is fun

I dont mind Jeff as a host, sometimes he annoys me but still I dont watch survivor for him anyway !!!

But many people here complain about everything that Jeff does which is his job. Stirring up controversies and trying to instigate things is part of his job (if it weren't, CBS would have scrapped him years ago). How boring would tribal councils be if nobody asked tribes pressing questions? If a different host did the same, then some people would just eventually complain about them too.

And how can you assume that diehards would stick with Survivor without Probst? It's never happened. As I said before, Jeff is part of the game. If you don't realize this now, then you haven't been paying attention for 21 seasons. Let's see how well American Idol does without Simon. About as well as Survivor without Jeff I surmise (which is not so well).

Jeff as a host is fine. I have nothing against him. I simply find him non-essential to my enjoyment of "Survivor". I believe that's the case for many die-hard fans. The casual fans (and I mean those that watch but don't know their stats or "Survivor" trivia and basically root for the "good" people to win, hahaha) IMO are the ones who'd probably check out if Jeff left. And not to be disrespectful to Jeff but to be honest, I think he stuck with "Survivor" because there were no other career opportunities.

You could be right. But then again, having a gig like host of one the most successful reality shows ever made is a good gig to have. It certainly beats flipping burgers, or for that matter any job than any of us has. Free travel to exotic locations, being somewhat a celebrity, simply having fun meeting all sorts of people. I wish I could "get stuck" with a job like that.

So nice of you to post here, Jeff. I always knew you were a closet case. :p

It's taken me a few posts but I now fully understand the extent of how much you like Jeff. I'll use sports as an analogy. For some fans, it's all about one team. Once said team is out of playoff contention, they're no longer interested in that season. For other die-hards, it's all about the game so the interest remains based on who's playing well (despite a favorite or a usual contender being eliminated). That's the case for SOME of us re: Jeff. He doesn't affect the impact of the interest in a "Survivor" season. I don't think it's anything personal because the reality is that the game's host isn't important to SOME fans. I just wish you could comprehend that fact but with all due respect, you might be too enamored with Jeff to see this valid point.

Oh, hell. Jill's posting there!? :-) That might give me reason to go back there for the first time in a while.

I can see why I find myself agreeing with you so much if you're a fellow Suckster. Nice take on the Jimmy J. situation. Like I said, Jeff didn't have a problem with Mitchell Olson quitting. He wasn't that mean to Janu (although he coaxed her into quitting). He didn't give Lisi nearly the same amount of flak.

I thought that was the case (that Jimmy J asked to be voted out). Oh re: Osten, I never held it against him because he was the only one who had the guts throw in the towel. Others asked people to vote them out or were targeted (and were relieved they were going home).

I never understood why Jeff made such a big deal about Osten quitting. He arrived at Tribal Council and his tribemates were prepared to vote him off formally, kind of like what happened with Jimmy J last season. But Jeff intervened and made a huge deal about it and treated him like garbage for "quitting" even though he could have just as easily let him be voted off.

And it was obvious why Janu was handled with kiddie gloves, since part of the reason she wanted to quit was to fuck up the determined Koror pecking order to give the producers' predicted fan favorite Stephenie another three days.

Razor, Jill's thread is here. She's the only one from Nicaragua posting since Shannon got banned for being a dumbass and posting spoilers about Kelly S. quitting because he was jealous of her fan thread being longer than his. He was about as pleasant as the show portrayed him.
