Survivor Samoa

I'm embarassed to admit Erik's speech almost made me cry. he was so emotional and just explained how i felt all along. These shows dont always have to be about lying and scheming all the time to win. Russell is so full of shit with his "i'm different in real life". I just dont believe you can take so much pleasure in being "evil" and have all this honesty, loyalty and integrity IRL.

Hopefully next season won't focus on Russell, they won't have the argument of having boring people with a cast of all stars and some of the biggest characters to ever be on the show.

If any player will hog all of the airtime next season, it will probably be Rupert because the casual fans just love him. ( at the thought of that... so much.)

Though, I agree, Russell is probably going to be the camera hog of the villains tribe. Poor Coachebag will be demoted.

Erik's speech was good, but in most male vs. female finales it shouldn't have worked. In this particular season, however, Natalie played the social game well and her encouragement of the Galu females to turn on Erik, which was the catalyst for Shambozo to flip on her tribe, was the turning point that led to Foa Foa domination. Russell, on the other hand, played a piss-poor social game and broke deals with Laura, John, Shambitch (who, being delusional as usual, still voted for him), Jaison and Brett. Add in Monica realizing that Russell only survived through idols, and that was the end of Russell.

And, honestly, I think Shambo announcing that Russell had her vote played a minor part in things too. It's so obvious that the jury did not respect her, and rightfully so.

So Russell lost? Bahahaha.

That asshole is the reason I tuned out after the first two episodes. I hated how it was basically "The Russell Show" -- just like BB11 was "The Ronnie Show" until that nerdy asshole finally got the boot. I'm glad I tuned out when I did though considering I would've had to suffer through Russell to the very end. I just couldn't stomach him.

It will be a power struggle of camera whoring between Coach, Russell, Sugar, and Rupert.

Poor Mick didn't get a single vote. He should have taken his clothes off. That would at least have gotten him Brett's vote (heh) and apparently Shambo's too:

LOL @ the audience making it seem like Russell is the best player ever. He played an aggressive game, but it was not good, he made multiple mistakes throughout the game and many of them were mistakes past players have made that cost them the game (getting to cocky for example). He was mediocre at best.

JT comes to mind when I think of a player that had the right combination of social gameplay, strategy (although most of it can be attributed to Stephen), and winning challenges. I would say JT was a much better player than Russell. And he won and overturned the majority alliance at the merge without the help of a hidden immunity idol.

^ EXACTLY what I was thinking the whole way through!

Russell was like the guy who, when given a nail and a hammer, just picks up the hammer and tries to drive it straight in with one big smash. Every so often, it works, but most often you just get a broken thumb. Much better to take lots of small taps and get there in the end, JT style.

I also think Erik's speech was FANTASTIC (despite the fact that he's batshit insane), because I've ALWAYS said that, if it gets you to the end, playing UTR DOES constitue a strategy, especially in Natalie's case, where her social game was by far the best of the season anyway.

I'm actually pretty happy about the way this season played out, I think it was ultimately the right choice, although I was rooting for Brett to pull of an upset. But mainly just so I could look at him more... But anyway.

BRING ON HEROES vs VILLAINS!!!! Sooooo excited to have Amanda and Courtney back, even if I do have to deal with both Coach and Russell... eesh.

My biggest problem with Russell from the get go was his berating women and other players as if they were some sort of disposable garbage. He could have played an evil game without saying all those ridiculous things for the dr, and yet he did. I agreed with Mick that you don't have to play a low down ugly game to win - and Eric with his incredible speech at tribal and the announcement of the winner as Russell sat there looking like a drunk frog, seething, lifted my spirits. Jaison's explanation on the reunion show confirmed how he felt and voted.

But America voting to give Russell the $100 grand made me ill to my stomach because in essence they supported his words and deeds during the show. I had only watched the tribals for a few weeks and watched the finale where I was hoping against hope that brett would win the final immunity (even as I had read spoilers saying otherwise).

And still no one will ever convince me that little birdies didn't whisper sweet immunity idol sleeping places to Russell. He is a toad.

congrats to Natalie.

Russell was the typical male chauvinist pig on the show.

Karma is a bitch.

RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Russell, and thanks for taking the time to talk to here at RealityNewsOnline. I'll just jump in because I know we're short on time. Be honest - how pissed off are you that you didn't win? Because I know I was kind of pissed off and I'm not involved!

Russell: Can I cuss? I'm f@%#ing really pissed off! It is a f@%#ing shame that the bitch that jumped on my back the whole time, rode my coattails, won the game. I played that game better than anybody in history. And you tell me I can't win because I got a bunch of sore losers on the jury?!

Probably the worst jury in history. They was dumb as hell anyway because they went to the merge eight to four and they can't even keep that. It baffles my mind that I didn't win this game. I thought for sure I was winning.

RNO: Former contestant Eliza Orlins tweeted that this was the worst jury ever.

Russell: Jimmy Fallon tweeted also saying I got screwed. A lot of people are upset about this and I'm upset about this. This isn't even Amber and Boston Rob - it's much worse. I played that game with all my heart and soul. I had a feeling that I wasn't going to win - I can read read people, that's what I do. Even still ,when they said Natalie won, it broke my heart. I knew she won but I took it so serious.

This game is legit. Everybody knows I make a good living, I have a good job. I stepped into a realm of a world that is that once in a lifetime type thing where you try to go on the show; if you make it, it's an amazing thing. I made it, I played it, and I lost. It's crazy. I thought for sure I won. I thought I won until the jury started talking. Then I knew I lost.

RNO: Why do you think this particular jury voted for Natalie instead of you?

Russell: Because nobody had ever seen anybody play as hard as me. I embarrassed them so much they had to put Natalie's name down. People say I didn't play a social game. I had a huge social game - I had Natalie on my coattails. I had Mick, Jaison, and Shambo following me. That's why nobody put my name down. I'm like Jesse James - you don't want to draw your guns on him. They were scared to death of me. The difference between me and Jesse is I'm never going to take my guns off. It's crazy.

Jaison won't even talk to me now because I burned his socks. He is a Stanford grad. I had so much respect for him, even though I talked in a negative light about him. He can't get over the fact that I burned his socks. That is amazing to me that he can be so smart and so dumb at the same time. He's going to be in trouble - he's going to be an attorney but I'll never hire him. He'll never succeed because he is too weak.

RNO: You talked about possibly being the best player in Survivor history. Do you truly believe that, especially given the overall apparently weak competition you were up against?

Russell: I believe I was the best player in Survivor history by far. That's a good question because maybe not - they were so weak, it might have just been too easy. I feel sorry for all of 'em because they had to play with me.

Like Marisa was the best player out there. Marisa would have won any other season and she went number one because I had too much respect for her. She was a strong woman - I love strong women, but not in a game, so I get rid of her and I take control of the game. I keep saying this - I know that if I wouldn't have got Marisa out of that game, she would have won the entire game. It's sad she had to play with me because I messed up her whole experience in the Survivor world by having to play with me.

RNO: When Jeff Probst asked you about your comments regarding "dumbass girls" last night you said you didn't regret anything you did. OK, but what about some of the more insulting things you said? It's one thing to play the game as a game, rather than as real life, but why did you say those things, which were outside the game?

Russell: You're never outside the scope of the game. Never. When you're playing that game, if you're real and you're good, you throw your character out the window. You put yourself in that fantasy world and you play the game. Everything you say is part of the game. I don't regret a thing I said, it was all part of the game. I stepped into that game and threw away my morals and character and stepped outside who I am. I did a damn good job playing it. All that stuff I said, it just kept me focused in the game. I gotta stay strong, I gotta do this and believe this. I gotta stay focused. There was a strategic move in everything that came out of my mouth.

RNO: Why did you think sabotaging Foa Foa early in the game was wise, given that it weakened the whole tribe?

Russell: I knew that I was good enough in the game strategically that I didn't have to have numbers in the merge. Surprise, I didn't have to! Russell was right. We know that's a fact! On the other hand, getting rid of their water and burning their socks causes chaos. That's how I got rid of Marisa. She got up and she was mad. Ben was mad. She had to go. Nobody can tell me I weakened the tribe when I went to the final five with my tribe! No, it don't work like that - not when you play as good as me. I could go by myself and I'd have dominated the game.

RNO: You're being pulled out for your next media appearance, so let me open it up to you as my final question - do you have anything else you'd like to say about your time on Survivor?

Russell: It's a shame. This is probably the worst disappointment in history of any kind of reality TV, because I was so dedicated to that game. It broke my heart when I found out I didn't win. I played so hard. I was so focused. I wanted that title. I didn't get it. The girl that did absolutely nothing. She says her best move was to go talk about Erik. That was my decision - I told her to do that and she did what I told her to do. Her best strategic move was to jump on my back.

Oh, and I have a new website that was just created: Russellgotscrewed.com. Go check it out. [Writer's note: I did a brief check on it, and it looks like a place where people can get Russell shirts and the like, and a donation will go to one of Russell's favorite charities, St. Jude's Hospital.]

RNO: Thanks again, Russell!

It's funny when he says he played a fantastic social game and then rationalizes it by saying that he had Natalie, Mick, Jaison and Shambo following him. First of all, two of those people were in the F3 WITH him. Second of all, he fucked over the other two when he decided to vote them out. Of course, Shambo is a complete mess so she still voted for him anyway, but an intelligent person like Jaison didn't reward him. And most of all? He had no ties with Galu other than Shambo, and they were... what, 7/9 of the jury? Great social game, Russhole.

I am loving this man's meltdowns. He is so pissed off that Natalie beat him and it is fucking hilarious.

From Natalie's interview:
RNO: OK, but I just talked to Russell and he is extremely pissed off that you won. How do you respond to Russell, who says all you did was jump on his back?

Natalie: Of course Russell is going to say that. I think Russell is hurt to an extent, he wanted the title so bad. But honestly you can't go around twisting people's arms in a threatening way and expect them to vote for you. And when they're voted out, you taunt them.

You know as well as I do - I'm a huge fan - the social part is a huge aspect. So I'm sorry, you can't play one aspect of it and ignore the others. You can't neglect the social aspect which in my opinion is the most important. That's your own fault. I'm the one who built genuine social bonds out there and because of it I won one million dollars.

May I also note that no one thought Steven got screwed in the mainstream backlash even though the situations were extremely similar. Why? Because Natalie is a tiny blonde girl and JT is a muscular man.

I guess I will be the only one here...I think that Russell should have won. Natalie didn't do jack shit really, and she really looked like a tool until Erik got up and made that speech. The jury was just bitter and mad that they got played and that Russell was better than them. It is a game people...and Russell got the better of you everytime. They are just too stupid to realize it. Oh well...

I am surprised that they didn't annouce who would be coming back for the next season. Does anyone have the full list yet?

Yup, the cast has been spoiled.

Heroes Tribe:
Colby - Australian Outback
JT - Tocantins
James - China
Rupert - Pearl Islands
Tom - Palau
Sugar - Gabon
Cirie - Exile Island
Amanda - China
Candice - Cook Islands
Stephenie - Palau/Guatemala

Villains Tribe:
Russell H. - Samoa
Coach - Tocantins
Tyson - Tocantins
Randy - Gabon
Boston Rob - Marquesas
Jerri - Australian Outback
Danielle - Exile Island
Courtney - China
Sandra - Pearl Islands
Parvati - Cook Islands

I listed them in no particular order. The promo they aired during the Samoa finale last night that had Hatch, Fairplay, etc. was so misleading if you know the real cast.

May I also note that no one thought Steven got screwed in the mainstream backlash even though the situations were extremely similar. Why? Because Natalie is a tiny blonde girl and JT is a muscular man.

This of course is EXACTLY correct. Excellent point! :=D:

This is a great article that all the delusional Russell fans should read:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2009/12/survivor_crowns_a_winner_offen.html

Linda Holmes used to write the BEST recaps/analysis of Survivor episodes for years on Television Without Pity, until she scored this awesome NPR blog. And this post is the perfect distillation/example of her critical skills; I'm so glad she blogged about the Samoa finale! She perfectly delineates everything that was undeserving about Russell, and everything that was deserving about Natalie, while taking her usual (and correct) pot-shots at Probst and the show, and intelligently reminding us about the social aspect of the game...which is its most mysterious and most interesting.

Thanks for linking it TaggedGalaxy. Everyone here should check it out.

On the flip side, Russell was just too stupid to realize that if you sew shit, then you must also reap shit.
