Susan Boyle's 1st Week U.S. Sales Projected @ 550K+

I bought her CD last week and have listened to it several times

She's good and I have to admit I liked her from the start. I thought she might be a one hit wonder but the CD exceeded my expectations

Let's here it for the underdog

Susan Boyle Secures 2nd Week Atop U.K. Chart

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" (Syco Music/Sony Music Entertainment) has started a second week at the U.K. album chart summit, taking its two-week sales past 700,000 units. Peter Kay and his All Star Band's "Official Children In Need Medley" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) secured a second week atop the singles survey.

Susan Boyle Set to Top the Billboard 200 for a Third Week

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" is on course to spend a third week atop the Billboard 200, as industry sources suggest the set will sell at least another 500,000 copies and could approach 600,000 by week's end on Dec. 13.

This past week, Boyle's "Dream" held on to the No. 1 slot for a second week with sales of 527,000, after bowing last week with 701,000. Now, with 1.23 million sold in its first two weeks, "Dream" is chasing after Taylor Swift's "Fearless" (2.53 million sold this year) for the title of 2009's best selling album. With four sales weeks left in the SoundScan tracking year, Boyle could overtake Swift's sales figure by year's end.

Who would have thought that a runner-up in a talent competition would be the

#1 First week sales by a female (so far)

(and that her second & third week of sales could almost be DOUBLE the next female with first week sales.)

#1 First week sales by female/male/group

Even though the release was late in the year it could possibly be the highest selling for all of 2009.

Those are truly amazing numbers. Wonder what effect Alicia Keys will have next week.

Susan Boyle remains atop the Billboard 200 chart for a third week with "I Dreamed a Dream," selling 582,000 copies (up 10%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. So far, "I Dreamed a Dream" has sold 1.8 million and is racing after Taylor Swift's "Fearless," currently the top selling album of 2009 with 2.7 million.

Along with "Fearless," Boyle's "Dream" is just the second album to spend three weeks at No. 1 this year. Swift's album spent seven weeks at No. 1 in the 2009 calendar year, in addition to three weeks atop the chart in late 2008.

"I Dreamed a Dream" is also just the eighth album to sell at least 500,000 copies in each of its first three weeks of release, since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. And, it's the only album by a woman to do so. The last set to charge through 500,000 in each of its first three weeks was 50 Cent's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin," in March of 2003.

There's just no stopping Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream."

The album continues to lock up the top slot on the Billboard 200 chart for a fourth week in a row, selling 661,000 copies (up 14%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. "I Dreamed a Dream" has now sold a total of 2,465,000 copies and is the second-best selling album of 2009. Only Taylor Swift's "Fearless" -- with 2,933,000 sold -- is standing in its way. And with two weeks left in the 2009 tracking year, anything is possible.

Susan Boyle Spends Fifth Week At No. 1 On Billboard 200

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" holds at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for a fifth consecutive week, selling another 510,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. So far, the set has shifted 2,982,000 copies in America.

"Dream" has sold more than half a million copies in each of its first five weeks of release -- something only four albums have done since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. The Beatles' "1" did it in its first six weeks, while Garth Brooks' "Sevens" and Backstreet Boys' "Black & Blue" each managed 500,000-plus frames in their first five weeks.

With just one more tracking week left in the year, "Dream" may overtake Taylor Swift's "Fearless" as the year's top selling album in the U.S. Swift's "Fearless" has sold 3,157,000 in 2009 -- thus, the gap between the two is down to just 175,000. Because of a quirk in the calendar, instead of 52 tracking weeks in 2009, there are 53. The final week of 2009 will reflect sales data for the week ending Jan. 3. Because four out of the seven days in that week fall in 2009, the full week gets credited to 2009.

Believe it or not, with the continued domination of "I Dreamed a Dream," Boyle is the first artist in the Billboard 200's 53-year chart history to enter the list at No. 1 with a debut album and spend five consecutive weeks at the summit. In second place are Lauryn Hill (1998) and Ashanti (2002), each with three weeks in charge out of the gate with "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" and "Ashanti," respectively.

Susan Boyle Tops Lady Gaga In 2009 U.K. Sales Race

Susan Boyle's debut album "I Dreamed A Dream" (Syco/Sony Music Entertainment) needed just six weeks on sale to overtake Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal) and score the biggest U.K. album sale of 2009.

According to the Official Charts Company, "Dream" has sold more than 1.5 million copies since it was released Nov. 23 - enough to edge out Gaga, whose "The Fame" spent 34 weeks in the top 10 last year and made No. 2 overall for 2009. However, Gaga's "Poker Face" did top the aggregate 2009 singles chart, while "Just Dance" made No. 3 behind Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" (Interscope/Universal)

As the new year is ushered in, it's looking like Susan Boyle will celebrate a sixth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, as industry prognosticators project her "I Dreamed a Dream" album may sell about 150,000 to 165,000 copies by week's end on Sunday (Jan. 3) night.

As we've been reporting, Boyle's "Dream" has been swiftly catching up to Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which is currently the top selling album of 2009. Now, with one week left to go, it's looking like "Dream" may fall just a bit short in the race.

Presently, "Fearless'" 2009 total stands at 3,157,000, while "Dream" is at 2,982,000.

With "Fearless" projected to sell in the neighborhood of 65,000 to 75,000 this week, it looks like Boyle's "Dream" will not close the gap between the two, and "Fearless" will remain the year's top seller.

If "Dream" sells its projected amount this week, the year will close with two albums -- "Dream" and "Fearless" -- having sold at least 3 million. The last time that happened was in 2006, when three sets managed the trick: the soundtrack to "High School Musical" (3.7 million), Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (3.5 million) and Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (3.0 million).

2006 did not benefit from having a 53-week sales tracking year, as we do in 2009, thanks to a quirk in the calendar. Without the so-called extra week in 2009, we'd only have one 3-million seller: "Fearless."

"Dream" is the only album that looks like it will sell over 100,000 in the week the closes on Jan. 3. The runner-up on the Billboard 200 may end up being Lady Gaga's "The Fame," which could shift perhaps 90,000 to 95,000 copies. If "The Fame" can rise to No. 2 on the chart, it will be a new peak for the long-running album, which has gone as high as No. 4 on the tally.

No major album releases came to market this past week, so don't count on any eye-popping debuts on next week's chart.

Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, as reflected in Billboard's sales charts, runs from Monday through Sunday of each week. Next week's album charts will be revealed on Wednesday, Jan. 6 and will reflect data through the week ending Sunday, Jan. 3.

Susan Boyle Extends Run Atop Billboard 200

January 06, 2010 4:08 EST

In just six weeks, Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" has racked up an epic 3,104,000 in sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan. However, that impressive feat was not enough to overtake Taylor Swift's "Fearless" as 2009's top selling album. The latter is at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 this week, selling another 60,000 -- bringing its 2009 total to 3,217,000.

As it turns out, four of the year's biggest selling albums also happen to feature in the current weekly Billboard 200 chart, where Boyle leads for a sixth week. Here's a quick rundown of the rest of the top 10 on this week's chart: Lady Gaga's "The Fame," as predicted here last week, climbs from No. 6 to a new peak of No. 2 with 82,000 (down 51%). The 62-week old album had previously topped out at No. 4 back on March 21, 2009.

Alicia Keys' "The Element of Freedom" climbs one spot to No. 3 with 80,000 (down 71%) while Mary J. Blige's "Stronger With Each Tear" drops two spots to No. 4 with 62,000. Justin Bieber's "My World" EP is up one to No. 6 with 52,000 (down 67%) while the soundtrack to "Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakquel" flies from No. 20 to No. 7 with 51,000 (down 43%). The set makes such a large positional leap thanks to its relatively small sales decline -- overall album sales were down 55% this week, so its drop is not so bad in comparison.

Rounding out the bottom slots of the top 10, we have the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." moving from No. 15 to No. 8 with 47,000 (down 55%), Lady Gaga's "The Fame Monster" EP up three spots to No. 9 (44,000; down 62%) and Owl City's "Ocean Eyes" up four rungs to No. 10 (down 59%).

Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Jan. 3) totaled 7.76 million units, down 55% compared to the sum last week (15.14 million) and down 9% compared to the comparable sales week of 2009 (week ending Jan. 4; 8.51 million).

Ke$ha Ends Boyle's 'Dream' With No. 1 Debut On Billboard 200

January 13, 2010 11:26 EST

A s expected, Ke$ha opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with her debut album "Animal," shifting 152,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The newcomer's set replaces Susan Boyle "I Dreamed a Dream," which drifts to No. 2 with 93,000 (down 32%) after a six-week run at the top of the heap. Young fans of Ke$ha must be delighted to see the 22-year old party-hearty girl bump the soaring sounds of the 48-year old Scottish reality TV star.

With 152,000, "Animal" actually sold better than first projected. Initially, some industry sources thought it was going to sell around 100,000 copies in its first frame. That prediction came as a result of how "Animal" sold a boatload of downloads in it first two days of release. Albums that initially sell big download numbers generally tend to trail off quicker as the week progresses. Thus, some industry projectors figured "Animal" would sell around 100,000.

As it turns out, "Animal" held up very well all week long, especially at digital download stores. It also helps that set carried an attractive developing artist list price of $9.98, and it was on sale for less than that at the big physical retailers. Additionally, both the Amazon MP3 and iTunes stores sold it for only $6.99.

Susan Boyle will make her first television appearance of 2010 next Tuesday (Jan. 19) when she returns to the Oprah Winfrey Show to perform "Who Was I Born To Be," an original song penned specifically for her debut album. Boyle, who shot to international superstardom almost exactly one year ago with her now famous performance on "Britain's Got Talent." Boyle will also sit with Oprah to talk about her whirlwind year.

January 20, 2010 11:00 EST

As for the rest of the top 10 this week, Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" holds at No. 2 with 77,000 (down 18%), marking its eighth straight week within the top two slots. There's a chance the album could return to the No. 1 position next week, as it'll probably benefit from the singer's sit-down interview and performance on yesterday's "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (Jan. 19).

Susan Boyle May Retake Top Spot On Billboard 200

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" may make a return engagement at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, as industry prognosticators suggest her set could sell around 80,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 24.

The set is reaping the benefits of Boyle's chat and performance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Jan. 19. Boyle's segment lasted for the first 20 minutes of the show, while fellow reality TV contestant Adam Lambert took up the the rest of hour-long broadcast. Expect Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" debut album to also see a big gain next week.

However, Boyle's climb back to No. 1 isn't a done deal. The as-yet-recorded charity album "Hope For Haiti Now" could make a splashy debut on the tally next week, depending on consumer reaction to the set over the weekend. A No. 1 debut isn't out of the realm of possibility and would mark the first No. 1 digital-exclusive set on the chart.

Still TOP 10 on the BILLBOARD TOP 200 after 12 weeks/ 3 Months !!!

As for the Billboard 200's holdovers in the top 10 this week, Lil Wayne's "Rebirth" slides down two rungs to No. 4 (89,000; down 49%); Lady Gaga's "The Fame" falls three slots to No. 7 (76,000; down 4%); and the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." moving down two positions to No. 8 (67,000; down 4%). Closing out the top 10 this week is Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream," holding steady at No. 9 (51,000; up 10%), and Taylor Swift's "Fearless," down three to No. 10 (50,000; down 6%).
