Maybe he really doesn't get it?

If there are no details, there is no deal. Britain would be foolish to trust anything they say.

I'll bet this is the last we hear of this.

All Trump wanted was an opportunity to lie about it.

He and Lutnick and Vance are behaving like this was some brilliant negotiating work...interesting though that Lutnick told the room that this was all Trump...not him.

Some of that is licking Trump's taint, but it is also a hand-off if it doesn't amount to anything.

Meanwhile the 10% tariffs remain in place.

It won't matter if the actual deal is never signed or completed...Trump has been given what he wanted by StarmerCO.; the appearance of a humiliating victory over Britain where it is apparent that the US gets everything and Britain gets nothing.

Well this is a weird flex on tariffs....

He's such a little B****. First off, barring the odd exception, we don't use foreign-made weapons thanks to past politicians who thought that was a bad idea.

Second. We're the biggest exporter of military hardware in the world.

Third, that sounds exactly like the kind of asinine justification that they will no doubt tell each other when people start calling them stupid.

By the way, I saw a snippet on the news this morning of him essentially saying that signing deals doesn't matter and getting pissy when asked about them.

Kudos to the Oracle of Rareboy. Do you require sacrifices?

:rotflmao:

...What’s that? What’s in [The Trade deal with Britain], you ask? Like, what is the “deal” part of the deal? OK, so it’s more of a concept of a deal. If a trade deal is, like, Michelangelo’s David, this is more like a block of marble. Or really it’s like a receipt from the marble guy that says we’ve placed an order for a block of marble. Maybe put the champagne back in the fridge...

No doubt it will be YUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They really should stop talking about dolls.
They really should. It makes them look totally unserious...but it is also a strategy and the pervasiveness of the use of a doll to trivialize the impact of tariffs on just about everything imported by the US is designed
to make any objections look silly. Another take on it:

I imagine that more carriers are going to cut flights between the US and other countries as the year rolls on.

Friends of ours have commented on the half empty filghts as well.

So the great negotiator is now just negotiating against himself as talks with China are held?

This is just more proof that he has no fucking idea what he is doing.

And 80% is still ruinous for importers and consumers.

He's being bombarded by the people who bought his election and is attempting not to admit he was wrong. He can't reverse course without losing face, and he can't stand firm and keep that support. He boxed himself in, and even the media was saying that was going to happen from the start.

It's political malfeasance and incompetence at a scale we've never seen before, and that alone should be grounds for impeachment.

It also fucking amuses me that it is now 'all up to Scott B.', who is in place to take the fall for a no-win deal. Although again, I think this looks really good on this opporunistic taint licker.
Watching him tell Congress that INTEL has to shift all of its business back to the US led to the example of a Boeing 747 being used to explain how it would be logistically impossible to
produce a plane that has 6 million parts if they all had to be manufactured in one country and how the back and forth in production adds layer upon layer of compounding tariffs (taxes) to the manufacturing and end costs of products.

It seems to suggest, though, that Trump is trying to distance himself from being the person who imposed the 145% and the regime is now unable to find an actually economically supportable tariff rate. His tantrum tariff rates make it impossible for an actual deal to be brokered.

This is also the moron who was bragging this week about how the ports being empty meant that the US wasn't losing any money...unable to apparently comprehend that if there is nothing coming in from China,
there are no tariffs being collected.

This is the moron that just undercut the north american (US) auto industry with a fake trade deal with the UK.

No wonder he bankrupted casinos.

In the meantime...no dolls for you from the nation of Mattel.

I know. Every time someone calls him a businessman, I have to ask what kind of businessman bankrupts a casino, let alone several. You really have to try hard to pull that off.

I also agree that at some point in the fall, he'll blame someone else—maybe Elon, though—for his performative performance anxiety and dismiss entirely that it's all his own fault.
