Increasingly, one of the reasons why I think the SC is dodging issuing their decision on Tariffs is because of the US debt.
The US dollar is only as strong as it is because it is based on the ability of government to tax its citizens now that it is no longer on the gold standard.
They know that TrumpCo.'s tariffs are only a sham to cover over the shift from income tax to consumer tax with the complicity of Congress, who know they couldn't do this through legislation
without the voters tossing them out.
They also know that the 'trillions' in 'investments' that TrumpCo. has been strong-arming from other countries is an agreement to continue to buy up US treasury debt.
Rule against Trump and the house of cards collapses.
So. What to do? What to do?
How to paper over this?
I think the hope has been that Congress would move to formalize the Trump tariffs through some act of legislation that would permit the Executive freedom to impose tariffs for any reason.
But I don't think that the majority exists in Congress to get this done.
