The Senate votes 50-46 to OVERTURN Trump's tariffs on Canada.

4 Republicans joined all Democrats in supporting the measure.

Unfortunately, the House won't likely take up the measure and Trump would veto it anyway.

So...just performative legislation.

But a crack in the armour at least.

^^ I am so cynical about these republican people based on their actions each and every time. They knew this would not go anywhere. They knew this bill was just a big show. And they knew their vote for it was a big self-serving show too. Nothing but showboat faux opposition. I seriously doubt any one of them would have voted for it if they thought it had a real chance of getting passed into law and having any effect at all.

I imagine the four who voted for it and the six who didn't vote are up for re-election or trying to support House GQP members up for re-election in states adversely affected by the tariffs.

Every Canadian that I know has made a point of mentioning that their liquor store shelves are empty in the places where American spirits were sold- particularly bourbon.

No one really talks about what happened in Alaska this year. Canadian tariffs hit Alaska hard. It's much cheaper to buy materials from Canada than ship them from the US. It's a double whammy because the rebuilding after the summer floods in western Alaska willrequire lumber and other building materials normally sourced from Canada.

In 2025, Trump carried Alaska 54% to Harris' 41%.

As per his usual MO, he created a crisis, said, "Only I can solve it" and then reset things pretty much to the situation before he created the crisis and then stood in front of the Press and bragged about what a great job he did.

It's more of the "Make-A-Wish Presidency" where he's given effusive praise for minimal performance.
