tell me about gay bars

You probably do not want to hear this. On this subject I am very opinionated. I consider gay bars, gay baths, and gay toilets off limits for me. Good relationship and sex in that setting is my cup of tea. I prefer being at home, with my partner.

I understand the adventure some see. I also understand STDs and that is not for me. I am not HIV positive, and I want to eliminate that at all costs. I feel great compassion for those who are HIV positive, and I would care for them no matter what. But safe sex and caution is not a bad thing. In fact, I think it..| is quite sensible.

I don't think you are old enough to hit a gay bar yet my friend. Got to be 21 at least. Well, if they serve alcohol anyway. :-)

In some places, there are gay clubs and even bars where you can go before you're 21, even in the US. In some states minors are allowed in bars but just can't drink, although many bars still don't like having minors present. In others, you can go so long as you're 18 but again you aren't allowed to drink. Often, they'll mark your hands up with a big, visible stamp or other form of marking if you're not 21.

just a reminder guys

you dont get HIV from a place

you get it from bodily fluids and the people that make them

since people are everywhere it is a very very bad thing to tell young gay men that if they stay away from certain places they are less likely to become HIV positive

you stay HIV negative if you have safe sex and dont get contaminated blood. that really is the only way

where you meet people is irrelevant. if you let your guard down and have unsafe sex with someone because you met them in a respectable place then you are going to eventually become infected.

all studies indicate that half of everyone that is positive is unaware that they are positive because they think that the people they were unsafe with were safe risks

so the HIV issue isnt about gay bars and gay bars arent about HIV

this is important

Jasun, are you allowed to say which bar they (Fratmen) go to? I went to WeHo 2 weeks ago and we went to several clubs/bar. I remember The Abbey (saw several gay porn roaming around), Micky's (they have drool-worthy dancers), and Rage (lots of Asians in this club).

They go to Tiger Heat a lot.

Abbey, Micky's and Rage are mostly gay people. Miguel used to go to Mickey's and East West a lot, but he's gay. The rest of the guys would go to Tiger Heat because it was really a mixed crowd.. gay guys and the girls who hung out with them and the straight guys who went to pick up the girls who hang out with gay guys.

Well, that and last time I checked, you don't catch HIV from dancing... even if you do it with strangers with HIV.

People who seem to suggest that you're going to catch HIV by jsut being in the company of gay people always make my head spin.

There are different types of gay bars. There are clubs to go dancing, clubs that are neighborhood type bars, lounge bars, leather bars, etc. Age groups vary depending on the club and the theme of the night. The neighborhood bars often times have karaoke and pool tables.

I have been to clubs with friends...to just spend time with friends. If you want to go to bars to meet people, then I think that the neighborhood type bars are easier to do this because it is easier to talk to each other. The nightclubs are better for dancing.

So please don't go to one type of bar and think that is all there is. There is quite a variety of them.
