Ten Words You Need To Stop Misspelling

Pliz. Whoo r wee dat wee mispelzt everitink?

Uh oh, dis topic has now toorned for the worce. :O

While it's true that there should be a space in "a lot," he should have also noted the word "allot," instead of saying there is no such word as "alot." Of course there is a difference in the words, but they ARE homophones.

And don't forget where and we're; writing not writting; prejudice not predjudice; biased not biast; friend not freind.

I've always had a tough time remembering how to spell the world 'embarrass' or 'embarrassed'.
Well that tells you much about me.. I mean that I have to use that word so often in writing to folks here..
Anyway.. I always forget if there are supposed to be too r's and two s's... or just one of each..
Perhaps I need to use spell checker..

"Loosed" instead of "losed" drives me nuts. ;)

Errr... 'losed' is not a word.

I haven't opened the link (have read it before, considered buying the poster to put up in my classroom), but I'm the kind of guy who notices spelling mistakes immediately, especially the lose/loose, they're/their/there type.

My gym (Health City) has this on the back of their membership card: "this card is your personal prove of membership..." That one hurt. A big national corporation...](*,)

while we're at it .. can someone explain me where that sudden surge of "of" comes from? In the past few months I have seen a lot of sentences like

"I could of met him in the park"
"I would of stop that behavior"
"I should of had more vegetables"

I think it is people wrongly hearing "would've" when quickly saying "would have"

I love the oatmeal's quizzes, they are so much fun :D though I don't think I make these mistakes much, "because" should be in there.

I think this is due to people being unable to identify the two separate words that make up "Would've, Should've, or Could've" which is what is used in most speech.

Nobody really says, "Well, I would have done this ...", we say "Well, I would've done this". And they think the "'ve" part is in place of the word 'of'.

The world is full of grammatically incomprehensible morons. And, I bet spellchecker must hate them! There should definitely be some form of grammar police.

I've never misspelled any of those words.

Also, some of those words aren't technically "misspelled", but frequently accidentally used in place of other words.
