Test your knowledge of Islam

I got 7 wrong, and they were me just not thinking hard enough.

Also, like Shiaa, there were some Christians that practiced self-mutilation and self-flagellation. It was, actually, a major issue at one point that required a papal decree to stop.

i dont think their reasoning was the same

16/18.

One I knew I was going to get wrong -- the thing about Abraham starting the Hajj, because it's a total invention.

But good stuff! I was reminded of some things I'd forgotten I knew, like the Prophet's first wife.

The other one I missed was the giving up of sex....

An invention?

lol

what a christian judgement

thanks

18/18 (!)

But I wasn't trapped by the slightly erroneous questions (3, 6, 8, and 11) and the wrong 9 - Allah is NOT the name of God - it is the Arabic WORD for God

3 - Charity is a common but incorrect translation of Zakat
6 - The word Islam means peace - that peace is achieved through submission (yes I know I'm a linguistic pedant)
8 - Given that in some traditions Adam is the originator of the Ka'aba and Abraham restored it OR, in others, that Abraham built it it was hardly Hajj 'as we know it'
11 - The Qu'ran does not forbid alcohol but drunkenness and while many Muslims interpret that as a ban on all consumption of alcohol it is, technically, an interpretation.

I do, however, agree that it is vital for non-Muslims to 'up' their genuine knowledge of Islam!

I got 3 wrong, although I was brought up in a christian family, my partner of 13 years is a not too religious Muslim. His family is though and I've learned a fair bit from them. Mutual understanding is the key to peace and respect for all of us and should be encouraged.

and a head banger of a debate everytime it comes up in regards to all intoxicants..

just for the reason you mention

impressive for someone not of the faith ..|

I don't feel too bad for missing #2, 8 and 12, considering that I've never studied or followed ANY religion.

Thanks for spreading a little enlightenment, Andreus!

15 right answers; but, what does that prove? I would guess that most Muslims would not do that well. And, any quiz on Christianity given to Christians and non-Christians would find similar ranges of knowledge and ignorance. I prefer to get to know what the faith means in the particular person's life. We have a similar problem with folks who call themselves American and then dare to call those who don't agree with them un-American. Inter-faith understanding and cooperation demands a deep humility on the part of each participant; my personal rule is to suspect all those who are too sure of their own positions and who dare even to suggest that they somehow know the mind of the Almighty. Peace.

I got 4 wrong. One of it I think has got to do with which Imaam you refer to. I refer to Imaam Syafi'i.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims do all of the following, EXCEPT:
Correct answer:Refrain from sexual activity for the entire month.
My answer:Refrain from gossiping.

We can have lawful sexual activity(husband & wife) after dusk. But definately not between dawn & dusk.

A perfect score for me--but then, I work with so many Muslim students.

I got 10 out of 18 correct. I began to understand more about how some of my previous answers were wrong as the test progressed.

Thank you for sharing that. It was very educational.

I did not know, until this test, what the actual difference is between Sunni and Shia.

Remember, please, that theological and religious differences are not the only things which separate Sunni and Shia.

A long history has added political, cultural and class differences into the mix.

My observation was more along the lines on where the Shia and the Sunni "split" in historical Islam.

From my perspective Sunni and Shia have about as much in common as Catholics do with Protestants.

They essentially believe in the same God, and appear to view salvation in a similiar matter, but the conflict arises from "how you get there from here."

Toss culture into the mix, and various break aspects of the respetive views becomes a religion based upon values more so than dogmatic teachings or a little of both.

BTW I'm referring to both Shia, Sunni, and Catholics and Protestants here.

Is that even a fair assesment?

Oh hell! I wasn't aware that there were those who tossed geneology into the mix. So there are "Morman" type Muslims too?
