not saying you do.
but the only reson you would use goat weed and tribulus was if you had a problem with erectile disfunction wich at that point your might as well just get the viagra fro doctor as that will at least do something.
so basicly the herb pills are ussless and dangerus, and you would only need somthing liek that if you had ed, and at that point you might as well get a medication that acctually does something.
sometimes i forget that some people still believe pharmaceuticals are safer than herbs. but that's ok because hopefully I can shed some light on the subject...
essentially, there is no pharmaceutical that was NOT inspired by a naturally occuring plant chemical. Statin drugs (like lipitor and the like) are modeled after red rice yeast, aspirin was derrived from meadowsweet/willow bark (both contain salicin the "active" chemical in aspirin and work just as well)
HORNY GOAT WEED (also known as epimideum) is used in TCM (trad. chinese medicine, the same body of knowledge that brought us acupunture...) as a TONIC (tonic being defined as something that brings TONE and health) for the kidneys, which TCM understands as the seat of a man's sexual power. The phsyiological action that allows for the 'goatweed to be used as an aphrodisiac is not simply that it allows more blood to flow into the penis, thus giving a firmer erection-- but rather it makes the Kidneys function more efficiently, therefore allowing the biological "functions" that are governed by the kidney to be fully expressed.
TRIBULUS is an herb from TCM's sister/mirror system of healing called "ayurveda" that serves a very similar function to HGW but has a phytochemistry (phyto meaning 'plant') that lends itself to increasing the production of testosterone. which can be helpful for those in need of more of it.
I personally recommend (and take, myself) the following herbs as DAILY TONICS for hormonal and sexual health since they are known to be extremely safe for daily use with little to no side effects...
MACA- amazing endocrine balancing herb from Peru that grows high up in the Andes and was (and still to this day) cultivated as a staple food crop by the Inca and indigenous people. they eat it every day like it's no thing, kind of like potatoes or corn or beans. try and get a roasted variety if you can, the raw version is less tonic and more nutritional (lots of calcium and amino acids). some good brands are Herbs America, SolRaiz Organics, HerbPharm
ASHWAGANDHA (aka Winter Cherry)- also known as "indian ginseng", this herb works mostly through the kidneys and adrenal glands which in turn help to balance the body's physiochemical response to stress (ie- adrenaline and cortisol production). this herb is so safe that it is perscribed in the ayurvedic texts for underweight infants (roots are boiled in milk to extract medicinal components and the milk is then fed to the baby). Also great for cognitive function, mood balancing, and physical endurance. Good brands are HerbPharm, Avesta, Ultimate Superfoods
As far as foods go, 'organic' salts (as in sea salt, not chemically reacted table salt which is toxic) feed the kidneys, healthy fats from avocado, fish, nuts, seeds, bee pollen... there are many more but i don't want to type out a novel
Herbs are multi-dimensional entities with infinitely complex chemistries that we are only beginning to understand(i'd say we've only seen the tip of the iceberg) , and are never useless if they are properly understood and used appropriately based on their characteristics.
Perscription meds are one-trick ponies that have shown themselves to create more problems than they solve.
but hey, don't take my word for all of this, do the research for yourself
love and health to you all!
