Thad1527 Appreciation Thread

Hey and hope you're having a blast, Thad! (*8*)

Here's where I explain what went wrong at Friday's party.

It was a Porkroll party. What I like about them is they stress inclusivity and body positivity so they draw a wide variety of men. And they do get a crowd. What I don't like about them is their atmosphere isn't especially friendly and their DJs suck.

This particular party was on the top two floors of the Bike Stop, a bar I know well. The top floor, a dance floor, is very rarely open. The second floor was their sports bar and now is rarely open. I miss it, but with the passing of their regular bartender AJ (who I really miss) and COVID, it isn't the same.

Now, the rest of the weekend was norepinephrine fun. A parade!

And I enjoyed Sunday's block party. A GOOD DJ outdoors at Locust & Quince.

I'm off to Newark, NJ tomorrow for a 1 pm hockey game! The Devils host Utah for the first time.

I am SO EXCITED!!!

A while ago, I decided to go to Pride Night at the Nashville Predators. Love the Preds, love Nashville. Got an ultra-cheap flight on Frontier. OK, so you get what you pay for and I've had horrible - and good - experiences with Frontier. I'll take my chances. Booked an Airbnb in funky East Nashville.

But nobody told me the Southern Festival of Books was that weekend! TJ Klune, whose wonderful book Somewhere Beyond the Sea I just finished, will be there. And dozens of other authors.

AND TODAY I find that on Friday the Shindellas, who are from Nashville, are playing next Friday at the Eighth Room in Nashville. I LOVE them.

I bought my ticket!

Good Thursday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I take it that right about now you're enjoying yourself with Pride Night at the Nashville Predators, and enjoying the sights and sounds of Nashville. Though my timing might be a little off, since I haven't been able to check in for the last week or so, since my computer has been in the shop.

I'm sure you're enjoying yourself, or perhaps you already enjoyed your time there, I'm not sure.

I'm in Nashville now! An uneventful flight Thursday...in the middle seat, ugh, but no problems.
I'm at a simple Airbnb apartment in East Nashville. The bathroom is excellent. The location is very good, a block from shops (including a Publix!) And the bus on Gallatin Pike.
Tomorrow is the Shindellas. Saturday is the Southern Festival of Books by day, Predators Pride at night.

The Shindo was amazing! So much fun, such amazing music.
Two other musicians shared the bill, and they were both enjoyable. TEN sang this song:

CoJo Ko performed a version of her song "Smile."

And oh, oh, the Shindellas. They opened with "Ooh La La," closed with their big hit "Last Night Was Good For My Soul," and just delighted us. A highlight was their cover of the Isleys' "For The Love Of You." So sweet.

The venue was the Eighth Room, which holds about 150 people and is on busy 8th Avenue South, across from Zanies comedy club and down the avenue from a Burger King, where I had pre-show dinner. (Yes, I'm basic )

Good evening, Thad (*8*)
You attend so many high quality events that you can indulge in some junk food every now and then ;)
I hope you enjoy your trip

I'm home!

I love Nashville and should have planned more time there. I can always go back.
Saturday I got rained on waiting for the bus to go downtown. But the rain ended while I was on the bus.
I enjoyed the Southern Festival of Books. It was held in Bicentennial Park, between the Tennessee State Museum and Library. Events were held in both buildings and outdoors. I went to three events. A session with three romance writers included Matthew Hubbard, writer of gay rom-com The Last Boyfriends Rules of Revenge. A session with Matt Godfrey and Amanda Strickland, who have narrated many audiobooks, was more interesting than I expected. And queer fantasy writer TJ Klune pleased a crowd telling of his way to writing and his life as an author. I bought all three romance writers' books and got two signed (I dawdled looking at displays and Sarah Adams left too quickly!).
THEN the reason I went in the first place: Music Pride Night at the Nashville Predators! A good game the Predators came back to win in overtime, 4-3.

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

Wow, you just came back from Nashville, you saw the Flyers game, and now you're going out to Salt Lake City to see a game? Boy, you really keep busy. That Festival of Books sounds interesting, meeting all those authors. I hope you're finding some good books. TBH, I've been sort of disappointed with some of the recent publications, it seems that many modern writers try to overwhelm you with shocking events in their stories.

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I hope you're doing well. You might be in Salt Lake City right now, enjoying the hockey game. I remember you said you were going out there, I don't remember your precise schedule. Hope you're enjoying yourself, and maybe finding some festivals or performers worth checking out.

I'm in Cleveland!

I fly to SLC Tuesday. Meanwhile I'm enjoying Ohio.
20241109_183552.jpgThis is the world's largest chandelier. It's at Playhouse Square, a complex of five restored 1920's theaters in downtown Cleveland. They were almost lost to redevelopment and the Ohio Theater suffered a fire in the 1960s, but all are in near-constant use today. I saw Helene Simoneau Danse at the Ohio Saturday night.

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

It sounds like you're having a great time out in Salt Lake City, taking in the hockey game and such. I noticed that it looks like their light rail system is running on the city streets, like San Francisco. I'm glad you're having a great time out there, and keep warm!

One more day in Utah. Yesterday I rode TRAX and local buses. TRAX runs on city streets in Salt Lake City, but has its own right-of-way in the suburbs. And it goes pretty far into the suburbs!
There's an underwear party tonight at TRYangles here. I went there for karaoke Thursday and it was OK, but I'm feeling old right now. We'll see.

Good Friday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I trust that you're all rested up at home, after your adventures in Salt Lake City. Sounds like you had a great time between the hockey game, TRAX, and the underwear party at TRYANGLES. What have you got planned next?

Oh...maybe New York tomorrow. Amber Martin is doing her Bette Midler tribute. Yeah, I saw her in New Orleans last September. She's that good. And she's recorded a country album that she will perform something from.
