Thad's Hockey Corner

And the defending champion Capitals are out! But it took double overtime in game 7 to do it.

So who's left? Time to predict:

Islanders vs. Hurricanes: My favorite matchup and I hope the winner goes on to take it all. The Islanders have been under the radar all season but they're good. It won't be easy. Islanders in 6.

Bruins vs. Blue Jackets: Boston has a better reputation and better regular season record. But Columbus has better goaltending and a chip on their shoulders. And Boston may be tired after their tough series vs. Toronto. Columbus in 6.

Blues vs. Stars: The Stars have better goaltending. But the Blues are coming in strong. Blues in 5.

Sharks vs. Avalanche: Full disclosure. I hate the Sharks. I may regret this because I don't like Colorado's star Nathan McKinnon either. (Didn't see him this season but he didn't impress me when I've seen him in person in past seasons.) I do love Phillip Grubauer, current hot goalie for Colorado. Going on a limb...Colorado in 6.

Watched the Canes beat the Islanders 1-0 in OT, amazing team keeps winning. Didn't stay up to watch the 2 OT victory by Columbus last nite to even their series with Boston. Lots of surprises this year, Cup up for grabs!

I was busy so haven't posted for a week. But, oh, how these playoffs are going! Double overtime in game 7 needed for the Blues to advance! Game 7 tonight for the Avs-Sharks series. (I plan to be at my local gay sports bar with my Avalanche hoodie on. I just don't like the Sharks.)
And the Eastern finals start tomorrow. Who'd have picked Carolina-Boston? I've got my "FOX Sports Carolinas Home of the Hurricanes" poster on my door so it's clear who I'm rooting for.

When I've gone to see NHL playoff games at my favorite gay sports bar this month...my favorite teams lose.
And, although I go to avoid watching alone...since local teams aren't involved, nobody else pays any attention and I might as well be watching alone.

Blues got jobbed by the refs in OT last nite, by not calling the obvious hand pass leading to the game winning goal. Damn shame when games are decided by bad calls or no calls.

^That will be talked about for years. And despite all the video equipment and replay possibility.

But that Western series is so exciting. Boston didn't give the Canes any chances and that Bruins power play is wicked good now.

(taking the Fox Sports Carolinas Hurricanes poster off my door...)

Puck luck seemed to be against the Canes with lots of pucks hitting iron vice twine, but the Bruins did play a nice brand of hockey to keep Carolina pretty much at bay in each game. Their Marchand, Bergeron, Pasternak line is pretty tough.

I wouldn't have bet that the Blues would shut out the Sharks today. But they did, to my glee, and take a 3-2 series lead.

It's Bruins vs. Blues for the Stanley Cup. I'm OK with this even if I didn't see either team this year.

So no predictions from me.

The series doesn't begin until Monday, Memorial Day.

The Blues tied the series! I watched at the North End, the gay sports bar in Boystown, Chicago. It was a good place to watch.

I should find somewhere in Milwaukee to watch Thursday's game.

And the Stanley Cup Finals get a game 7.

I was surprised to learn it's the first Finals Game 7 ever to be played in Boston. The other "Original Six" teams have each hosted one or more.

In the AHL, the Charlotte Checkers beat the Chicago Wolves to win the Calder Cup. Charlotte is the affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Blues win the Stanley Cup!

OK, I didn't see them this year. But it makes me happy. It's about time the last of the 1967 expansion teams won. I love "Gloria." i pull for underdogs (usually). And rookies (even if they've been tending goal in the minors for awhile).

Charlotte wins the Calder Cup (the longest continually-awarded trophy in professional hockey...thank you, Gary Bettman, I'll never forgive you). This is good news for parent club Carolina, talent-rich already.

So party under the Arch! So overdue.

Congrats to the St.Louis Blues!

So...now that the Stanley Cup is touring where the St. Louis Blues players want it to go...

Next season's schedule has been announced.

I appreciate EVERYONE letting me know. I've received e-mails from Ticketmaster, StubHub, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Dallas Stars, the Minnesota Wild, the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New Jersey Devils, and the Chicago Black Hawks.

When did I become an influencer?

It doesn't take much hockey news to get me all excited. The Chicago Black Hawks e-mailed me that Andrew Shaw is returning to Chicago. Oooh!
Black Hawks single game tickets go on sale on my birthday...Tuesday, August 20. Guess what I want for my birthday. And, no, I live nowhere near Chicago. I'll make the trip.

My first NHL game, was played at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Arena. Watched the California Golden Seals lose to the Black Hawks 3-2. However, after that, we had partial California Golden Seals season tickets. Was very sad when the Seals moved to Cleveland to become the Cleveland Barons. After that, attended and watched Los Angeles Kings games. California-Golden-Seals-featured-Brad-Kurtzberg.jpgCalifornia Golden Seals Uniform Road 2.jpg
