Just want to say that we couldn't have done it without you.

Thank you for putting our differences aside to come together to make this victory possible.

There was a lot of talk about how this Election wasn't about the Issues, and at first during the Primaries, I don't think it was for a lot of people on both sides. But in the end, together ... we made it about the Issues after all.

Together, we've made a major accomplishment tonight.

i think that's stretching things quite a bit....

i still believe hillary has her fingers crossed behind her back

do you think Bill is really on BO's team? or will he say & do the "right" things so as not to damage hillary's chances for a future run?

I'm talking about her supporters who voted for Obama. I'm not talking about Hillary and Bill. Don't ruin a genuine thread.

I didn't think half would turn their vote to McCain, with so many policy differences and running a campaign basically mired in the sewer...allowing others to say shit when he couldn't bring to do it himself. They just needed time to get over a really emotionally draining, hard fought battle. It isn't easy to get enthusiastic right off the bat and just embrace Obama after being so fiercely loyal to Hillary Clinton...who was a very formidable candidate who got over 18 million votes on her own behalf. They just needed time to collect their thoughts and refocus on who would best fight for their concerns, and the truth is the policy differences between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama overall were very minimal.

ah...got you....sorry...

yes i admire her supporters who voted for BO as well....it will be interesting to see the stats on what % of them went with BO and with JM.....

i think mccain shot himself in the foot choosing sara palin...probably thinking that hillary's supporters would automatically migrate to him just because he chose a woman.....

i'm glad most of them didn't fall for that....i actually think that hillary's female supporters are considerably more savvy than palin's

That's why the Left jumped all over Palin when she was chosen, because they knew what McCain was trying to do, and saw right through it.

You're welcome.

Our time will come in 4 years, providing this country isn't drinking tea with China and Russia by then.

Big thank you to Hillary supporters from me too! Definitely could not have pulled this off without you.

I still consider myself to be a Hillary supporter. But today I proudly cast my ballot for Barack Obama. His speeches since (and including) the convention have given me goose bumps and an immense amount of hope. It breaks my heart that his grandmother didn't live to see this amazing day.

FIRED UP!
READY TO GO!

Excellent point, sausy. In fact, I think the nearly identical platforms of both candidates is one reason the primaries got so messy -- they had to pick at the loose threads, nibble at the edges, because the differences were minor. So they got bitchy with each other.

I never doubted that the Democrats would rally around whomever the nominee was. The few that didn't have ever right to sit home and suck on lemons all day, but they were few in number and without any consequence. When Hillary gave her powerful and gracious speech at the DNC in Denver, it was very clear what her goal was: unifying the party under the Obama banner, for she knows how much is at stake.

So, here we are, in control, where we belong. Gosh, I'm, like, stunned stoopid by it. But not for long.

(BTW, sausy, hold off packing you bags for your trip to NK -- I think we have a commutation, a waiver from your deportation.)
That's what pretty much happened,Alfie....health care and foreign policies there were nuanced differences, but not striking ones.So there was more a battle of personalities among the Obama and Clinton hard corps. In the end,the way the Republicans went right, especially with the selection of Palin(personally an. Elizabeth Dole who hunts moose,essentially)....the Clinton voters weren't going to go against principles out of a pique, out of spite. No way as ambitious as Hillary is does she want to be remembered as the one who sunk the Democrats perfect opportunity to take power after the disastrous Bush era.And neither did her supporters, overwhelmingly.

I hope the Democrats act wisely with the the commanding majorities in Congress, though I am more hopeful overall for the Senate than the House. We all know how the Republicans handled their control of all three branches...hope the Democrats prove more competent and productive.

Thanks Alfie for the waiver, though I did vote Obama anyway.I dread cold grey places and wasn't looking forward to the prospect of my own little piece of heaven in beautiful downtownP'yong yang.;)

We should also be thanking Hillary Clinton herself. A few media personalities and political analysts have said that Obama could not have done this without the primary going all the way to the end. Indiana and North Carolina would not have been battleground states today if the May 6th primary wasn't so highly contested. Obama was able to build a large team and growing numbers of supporters in those states. At 10:45 both states are too early to call. Hillary may have said some bad things about Obama, but she did most of the vetting for us so that Republicans wouldn't have much to go on except for recycled rumors and bullshit.

Though I cast my vote today for Ralph Nader, I congratulate Senator Obama on his victory. A good friend of mine said today that it is not the victory speech that will unite America, it will be the concession speech. I 100% agree with that. On November 5th, we are no longer Democrats and Republicans divided, we are Americans who need to rally behind our new president.

Well this vagina/cunt loving, uneducated, old-fag, thanks you and yours for your acknowledgement, in our participation in this process.

Coming from a disenfranchised Republican means a lot. :##:

Oh, but wait, I was and remain a Moderator of this forum, so I shouldn't have an opinion on this topic, but rather should hold myself to a higher standard.

If that's the case then, I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

Well let me tell you, McCain isn't doing anything to unite the people behind the President-Elect right now. It's a terribly pathetic speech.

And I'm actually touched that Palin has tears in her eyes right now.

I'm surprised at Palin, too.

I don't fault McCain for his speech. His supporters are complete trash booing him while he's talking. He's trying to speak highly of Obama, but his supporters keep booing him.

Gutter trash, Republicans.

Former Hillary supporter here. To be honest, I was very very bitter about the primaries and didn't make up my mind until Colin Powell's endorsement. I voted for Obama and I'm so happy I did.

A pundit on CNN said that Obama's victory in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida was possible, due to Hillary's great effort in campaigning for him, along with other factors. I can't agree any more. Many thought that she'd be bitter and not do anything--yet she did more than enough. She went to the blue-collar areas and sent the message loud and clear.

I'm hoping that she'll get something in his cabinet. It's the least he can do.

How about US Supreme Court?

She's too old and her personality doesn't suit that. She likes being out in front and talking about stuff, so putting her in a courthouse behind closed doors, would be something she wouldn't want to do.

How about US Supreme Court?

I remember reading not too long ago -- and I'm pretty sure it was from Hillary -- that she would not be interested in a SC Justice position. It seems to me that she enjoys working for change in the ideologies of Americans, working to champion women's rights and universal healthcare, etc., that a SC Justice position would not allow her to work towards the goals she has. Plus she would not be able to run for President in 2016.

Well, his crowd isn't making it easy, either.

And I'm actually touched that Palin has tears in her eyes right now.

It's what happens when power is snatched from greedy, ambitious hands.
