That Faggot had it coming

Do you "know" why the Civil Rights Act of 1965 was so important to the black people of the U.S.?

Along with Martin L. King and the protests against discrimination, this is the out-come of people sticking together on an issue!

As long as we GLBTs cower and say things like, "another reason why I don't live in the U.S., North America or the States".....etc, that is why we continue to be beaten down and we do NOT have the civil rights guaranteed to us by being human beings....

It's time, yes, it's time dammit that we as ONE stand up, fight, get arrested, protest or do what ever it takes to define ourselves, and MAKE the world know that we mean business and are NOT mealy-mouthed, limp-wristed, wussies who do NOT or will NOT stand up for ourselves and our friends and family!!!

Those who live in the city where this crime took place, make the lives of your elected officials miserable, the Mayor, the council-people, the police officers, the judges and any one who you think will listen or you make listen to your protest against this kind of action by vigilantes of the so-called police department and it's Chief.

The rest of us can pick up the phone, email, blog, twitter and cause such a ruckus on the internet that the news agencies will have to take notice that "We're mad as hell and we ain't gonna take it anymore"!!!

Stand up and be counted/noticed when we are wronged......

Are you ready to do things that is outside your comfort zone and even get arrested or do what ever it takes to be non-violent protesters?

This is so F'd up in so many ways and I'm ready to stand up for my kind who were wronged and lied about by the so-called peace-keeping-officers of the city.....

Let's take a stand.........NOW!:grrr::grrr::grrr:

COCKTALES... I LOVE YOU.

but you knew that.

And you're right.

Gay men have been taught to attack each other and let the men who attack us get off with a pass.

We attack Chris Crocker but call that "bruno" person a "genius."

We attack the gay guy on American Idol because he's "so gay" and then go on and on about how the Evangelical guy is "so hot."

We hate movies like "Latter Days" where the guy gets the guy in the end but stand in line for hours to see "Brokeback Mountain" where we get to see the miserable faggot die at the end.

Gay men need to stop accepting the lesser role. We have to start being proud of all that we've done. We painted the Sistine Chapel. We invented fashion. We invented Rock 'n' Roll. (oh, you don't believe me? google Little Richard).

We have to start to be proud of what we've brought to the world. And we need to start to just accept each other. As is.

From the Dallas Morning News, finally deigning to take notice:

Terrific. One homophobic jackass who has no business wearing a badge is going to meet with a whole TEAM of homophobic jackasses who have no business wearing badges. That'll help. I bet the main topic will be how to get away with it this time, and how to brutalize innocent gay citizens more deniably in the future.
Thanks for the link, so I could read the article for myself. It actually conveys a more nuanced picture than your knee-jerk reaction would indicate.

Like the chief of police, who you're so sure is a homophobic jackass. What the article actually says is:

Calling it "an excellent first step," a leading voice in Fort Worth's gay and lesbian community Thursday praised police Chief Jeff Halstead's decision to indefinitely suspend joint bar checks between the department and state alcohol beverage agents....

"I think it's an excellent first step," said Todd Camp, founder of Fort Worth's Q Cinema gay and lesbian film festival. "I'm glad to hear that both departments are conducting investigation. As a long-time resident of Fort Worth, I look forward to working with the police department to make sure something like this doesn't happen again."...

The chief also announced that he would make sure that all police officers receive multicultural training, with particular emphasis on dealing with the gay and lesbian community....

"TABC Administrator Alan Steen supports Chief Halstead in his efforts to determine how best to serve the community," the statement said. "Mr. Steen and Chief Halstead have been in contact with each other this week, and they share the same goals – to establish the facts surrounding the incident at the Rainbow Lounge, to hold accountable any employees who violated policy or the law, and to determine the best way to serve the people of Texas moving forward."

In a subsequent interview, TABC spokeswoman Carolyn Beck said the agency is conducting its own investigation and has placed the agents involved in the raid on the day shift, "which means desk duty."

...

And for the Texas-bashers on this thread:

But Camp, who has lived in Fort Worth since 1984 and was celebrating his birthday at the club when the raid occurred, said he wants to see cooler heads prevail.

"This is my neighborhood; these are my officers," Camp said. "I don't want to be afraid of them, and I don't want them to be afraid of us. The whole world knows about Fort Worth right now.

"I'm trying to get through to people that it's not a redneck place. Fort Worth is one of the most culturally aware places in Texas. Boycotting Fort Worth or boycotting Texas is not the way to go."

drug sniffer dogs are all over the place down here. The police and the hotel associations have a zero tolerance for drug use policy.
Well, good luck with that. The US has been fighting a "war on drugs" for decades with no apparent success. It's really just a big waste of resources. Hard to believe that it could work any better in Australia...

reason #2565 i don't live in the states.

Yes, we all can rest comfortably with the knowledge that there is zero homophobia in Canada. And if you believe that I have a lovely ocean front parcel for sale in Kansas I'd like to sell. [-X

First of all, that's the Dallas Morning News, which locals inform me is a much more conservative paper than the Fort Worth ones. Second, that was their FIRST coverage. They didn't mention the incident AT ALL until they could report something positive about that asshole police chief. You call it "more nuanced," I call it "slanted."

Have you forgotten that his initial reaction was to claim that the officers were inappropriately touched, and to say this:
"You're touched and advanced in certain ways by people inside the bar, that's offensive," he said. "I'm happy with the restraint used when they were contacted like that."
He's "happy with the restraint used" when that "restraint" resulted in a young man being in a coma and close to death. And that's after he swallows the good old boy "he came on to me, so I had to beat him half to death" bullshit excuse without hesitation. I certainly don't think calling him a homophobic jackass (or the scum of the fucking Earth, which I've called him elsewhere) is even slightly out of line, and I think taking the announcement of meetings as a positive development is simply naïve. It will satisfy only the people who are already looking for a reason to stop thinking about this incident.

By the way, I think the Texas-bashing in this thread is deeply distasteful and counterproductive to getting the results we want. You can't dismiss an entire state as ineffectual wimps and at the same time call on them to be brave and effective. While certain kinds of abuse are more common in Texas than in most other places, and it certainly has its statewide problems (governor Rick Perry is another scumbag, for example, and ultimately responsible for the TABC's abuses), there are a LOT of people and places in that state, and there are hardly any generalities that really apply to all of them.

We have never claimed that, but we have laws now to protect us from that kind of crap.

Well it's certainly good to know that the fine people of Canada NEVER break any laws and every Canadian cop is completely accepting of gays. Please! Laws protect you from nothing. Laws only punish those who break them, or not.

Where are you getting that crap? If you don't know what you're talking about, the kindly STFU.

You have a gay man in hospital with brain damage because some homophobic cops beat the crap out of him. And they might get off because 'he deserved it', and the jury might believe them. If you're happy with that, then fine.
