"That's so gay" Commercial.

I hate sayings like "that's so gay" and "no homo"! i think everyone else here agrees that it is ridiculous that people get away with it so often! It's fine if they say that, but the instant i might use a feature of theirs as a negative connotation, they would most likely get all in my face and throw a bitch fit. I had a teacher last year who would not allow people to say "that's gay" within her classroom, for the reason being that she herself is gay (or lesbian, whatev) I really respect that she pointed that out and made it a rule. We need more people like her to make it a point that people should not use these phrases anymore. I hope i'm not making to big a deal outta this. Just something that had bugged me for a while.

and what you've just done here is exactly that. Once upon a time lame was a word that described cripples, and people with walking problems. And yet you use it as the same meaning as stupid. You've taken a non-derogatory word and made it derogatory. I guess that makes you just as deplorable as the people who say "that's so gay"

Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone. Clearly this is not you.

Lame has always had intrinsic negative meaning. If you're walking lame, it shows that you're weak. Being weak is still a non-preferable condition. Nobody wants to be lame.

It's like the word retarded. Being retarded is a non-preferable condition. Nobody wants to be retarded.

Therefore, it is logical that these words should evolve into derogatory words when they described non-preferable conditions to begin with.

Or my posts may be seen as tough love. I'm not saying i don't care, but what i am saying is that cotton-balling is not the answer.

I seriously cannot concieve that anyone would kill themselves because this phrase could be a 'straw that broke the camels back'. I attempted suicide myself when i was 16 because i was having difficulty with the gay thing at a time when i was trying to do exams and a family crisis was under way, the pressure was too much. This phrase is hardly adding pressure, its usage has nothing to do with gay in the homosexual person context, its highly unlikely to be a contributing factor in a persons suicide.

Well, I know two teenagers who did kill themselves over this exact expression. It really was the straw that broke the camels back. So it's not that rare to me. It's very real to me. ANd I think until you stand in front of two weeping parents you can never really grasp the severity of the situation.

For some people it might be "thats so gay" and for others it might be "faggot". You really can't judge a person for what strikes them. Offense hate speech is offensive hate speech. If you know it hurts people, you shouldn't do it. Simple as that.

It's not extreme at all. You don't say it. Ask other people not to say it. Then it's done.
