It`s proving to be a great Summer of sporting success in old Blighty ; The Lions triumphant at the rugby, Andy Murray winning Wimbledon (he is British isn't he??) and on Wednesday, England`s opening test match against Australia. On paper, England are favourites to win the series and no serious money is being placed on the Aussies to win. But I`m far more cautious. The Ashes, after all, is the most bitterly fought over competition in cricket. The Aussies hate losing to the Poms and to lose on enemy territory would be unbearable. This fact is bound to lift Australia`s lacklustre form and together with England`s sometime ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, makes the 2013 Ashes series an exciting prospect...|

Ist as i have said "yay , Murray" , yep he is the holder of a UK Passport , but he is a SCOT .
The Lions were just magnificent , and after our best Oly ,s in years and on "Home-Turf" , 60 years of HM Elizabeth 2nd , winning the Ashes in this of all years would be the icing on the cake .

Funny enough for a "Haggis-Muncher" i am also a huge Cricket fan , i blame my time in The Forces...........:lol: .
Though as you say , the Aussies are one hell of a tenacious race , and great players , like you i am really looking forward to this
and i think that with all that has happened , England may just do it.................|

Well - they (just) did the first one - in no small measure due to ridiculously bad umpiring :(

Nevertheless - it was a great deal closer than I expected it to be - and, of course, if the ump had bothered to wear his specs we could well have won.

Joking aside - I think the Aussie Cricket Squad has been waiting for someone who could actually unite a new squad and give them confidence and purpose - and I believe Darren Lehmann can do that. Whether he can get them firing as a disciplined team in time to win this series I have doubts - but I'm not giving up hope at this stage.

Haha, well it wouldn't be the first time that a missed appointment at Specsavers has turned a cricket match ;) I`m delighted with our win, the first in an opener since `97 but certainly the margin of victory suggests that there is still a bit of the old dangerous Australia, in this under-par squad, with Agar Ashton a stand out player IMO. I cant wait for the 2nd at Lords on Thursday, I`ve got tickets....if I see a TV camera I`ll give you all a wave ..|

Things just keep getting better. England (361 & 349-7 dec) beat Australia (128 & 235) in the second test by 347 runs to lead the series 2-0.

I have England winning the series 4-1 in our office sweepstake....I suspect I`m going to lose some money :mad: Sifting through the wreckage of this test, the Australians must ask themselves why a complete liability like Shane Watson is even on the team. The weather is set to change so perhaps they might manage to blag at least one draw out of the remaining fixtures, but that would be cold comfort.

3rd test is a wash out and England retain the Urn, with two matches left to play. I`m delighted that we`ve won again but even I couldn't be so heartless as not to commiserate with the Aussies. They had this test match by the throat and England`s dithering performance was almost embarrassing to watch....and then the rains came. Oh well, a win is a win and the Ashes are ours again, maybe Australia will get another chance in the 4th and 5th tests to restore some lost pride, their old brilliance is still there...just ..|

Yeah - that was a disappointment. I think better times are to come - I believe Darren Lehmann will have a ceohesive influence on the team - tho' it will take a bit more time for the effect to be felt. I also think there is a lot more chance that his opinions may be taken into account by our selectors - who, lets face it, have not done a great deal right in recent times.

Hopefully November will be much more closely fought. If it isn't, I think I may just abandon cricket for a while!

England have won the fourth test by 74 runs. They retained the ashes when the third test was drawn, but now they've actually won the series. Not, of course, that it was ever in much doubt! : D

True enough, though I doubt even the Aussies could have known just how bad they would be. That said, there were still a few flashes of the old dangerous Australia, abound. Rebuilding their entire cricket reputation `aint going to be easy but they would be advised to hold onto Clarke, he emerges from this Ashes series with some credit, IMO.

Yeah, he`s the preppy Frat-boy of the team....Cookie is one of those Made in Chelsea types....they`re both quite shaggable in their own way...but give me Matt Prior any day, he looks like he`d be an animal in bed.:D

...And...after a (finally) good innings with the bat by the Aussies, the Poms are clearly playing unbelievably boring cricket to get a draw at all costs so as not to lose a single test.

Boo!...Bad sportsmanship.
