The battle of the Speedos

So, what do you think of Speedos?

Ridiculous. Why not just put men in burqas?

With the way our country is headed, don't be surprised if all men are required to cover up their bodies. Of course, at the same time all women will be required to wear floss thongs or be arrested.

considering my own body issues i would never wear a speedo but i think it looks good on a number of men. if you wear them and you love them? more power to you.

Being on the swim team, I grew up in Speedos. I mostly wear board shorts these days, but I still have some Speedos and have no problem wearing them.

The team swimmers today wear those 'jammers', which look more like cycling shorts than swimwear.

I think it's ridiculous to ban them. I think we should embrace the human body (flaws and all). I think all these regulations and social stigmas breeds insecurity amongst males and their bodies. Hmmm...I think I'll stop now before I start ranting.

Meanwhile in France ... Speedos are still popular and you can be seen looking like this:
Briefs have been common in Europe ever since, no matter what body you have. It was the standard swim suit for ages. Long bermudas that go over the knees are silly. I wear loose swim shorts myself.

I feel quite offended by looking at womens curves and swellings and I don't think they look very family-friendly either. How embarassing and disturbing must a full swelling bosom look for fellow members of the public, especially women who are not as well build as others? So requiring women to wear more protective swimwear such as burqas and burqinis should be as mandatory in certain waterparks in the United Kingdom.

It's probably Alex's fault. I tried to talk him into going to Canada's Wonderland, but he really wanted to go to Alton Towers:

Re Speedos, I don't like them... I mean, if you're swimming competitively or for exercise, they are the correct wear; but for splashing around in a public pool, they're just silly (no matter how good you look in them). It's like wearing a ski suit to build a snowman.

Re the ban, I think it's even sillier. All swimwear is revealing, especially when it's wet; just because there's more fabric clinging to you doesn't mean nobody can see what it's clinging to. And women's swimwear is just as revealing, even the granny-type onesies.

But what makes women's swimwear decent and men's indecent is that we have our genitals on the outside where you can see them, and that's what makes the whole thing matter. Nevertheless, a water park is going to have bodies on display one way or another and making a big stink about how they're revealed is going to open a very nasty can of worms.

^^^^ I dunno... to me, wearing a ski suit to build a snow man is more like wearing a speedo to water your garden .

Anyway, I think some guys in speedos are hot, I don't think I'd wear them even if I had the kind of body that looks good in speedos, but that's just me. I think the ban is stupid.

That theory WOULD work if it weren't for big tits and nipples. ](*,)
And that objection would carry weight except that breasts and nipples aren't genitals.

Breasts, like butts, are sexualized areas that are not actually sexual. The social taboos for sexualized body-parts change with time and society (there was a time not so long ago when ankles were considered indecent, while bare shoulders and a whole lot of boob were regularly displayed), but genitals themselves are always expected to be at least covered in polite company, from ancient Egypt up to today.

But that's why I say they're opening a can of worms with the Speedo ban: everybody is going to be offended by something. I know certain people who think it's indecent to wear your board-shorts so low that one can begin to make out the cleavage. I know I don't like seeing big boobs flopping about under a t-shirt with no bra. The range of what a "reasonable person" might find offensive, in this case, is much too wide to police. First it's Speedos, next it's string bikinis, then it's low-slung board-shorts, then it's wet t-shirts, then it's flip-flops...it's never-ending.

Why do men have to hide anything? In western society, men are made to feel almost ashamed for having a penis, for having a bulge. I'm not saying that we should let it all hang out but I think all of the hangups about our genitalia is damaging. I've read that semi-erect men in Italy practically walk through the streets caressing themselves. Why can't American men do that?

These rules exist because some men feel uncomfortable for not measuring up and others uncomfortable for being tempted.

Are women still allowed to wear bikinis?
My first thought exactly. If a speedo on a guy is banned , so should a 2 piece suit on a women. After all, there are 2 things that can fall off a women's body in the big , bad waterpark:grrr:
