Your welcome :D. I actually have not heard the Mates of State album, but I certianly do know of them, I will check it out prontisimo.
Dude, I would LOVE the link to the Live Thermals cd (Ive seen them live twice, bought their cd's & a T-shirt so I don't feel guilty ;) ). As for Kanye, his risk taking is what I admire about him, I like artists who show a little ambition & always try to evolve. One reason why a band I absolutley love, Oasis, did not make my top 25 is because their new cd was so meh. Its not a bad record actually but it shows zero growth by them, Its like they went into the studio, lit a few joints, had another brotherly fist fight and recorded all the new songs while on auto-pilot. They are capable of so much better (Though Shock of the lightning is a terrific song).

Do you know Dredg? Its a band out of California & its the one band I always try to push on people (well, the Ohio band Lovedrug too). I think they are simply amazing and their 4th cd is coming out this year. Their sound has been classified as alt metal or progressive, I don't know how to describe their sound but its kinda the Doors meet Porcupine Tree with a dash of Creed (I mean that in the best possible sense lol) I highly recommend them.

i listened to Dredg some last night and couldn't get into it. i like Lovedrug all right, but they're not one of my favorites. i used to play their song "Spiders" on repeat a lot when it first came out.

ohh shit you are going to make me to this ... i'll work on the list tonight xD

Muuhhaahhaahh!!! The secret is out, I did all this so I could see FYpugh's list. C'mon FY lets see what you got ;).

Nice call on Low vs Diamond & Manchester Orchestra Bostonboy. Those were both very good albums.

That's pretty bitchy of you to label someone based on liking a fucking CD. So, with that, I'll say "we figured out that your one of the flamer guys who think everything you listen to is so much better than anything else because your opinion on what you think is good music is ALL that matters." How about YOU give it a rest, and let people listen to whatever the fuck they want, without you pissing in their Cheerios. Just because you love the taste of piss, doesn't mean everyone else does.

Don't mind him, he's just trying to validate himself. Who in their right mind would think Britney isn't successful at the moment?

You kept me awake all night but it was fun (*8*)

Not the first time Ive heard that FY ;)

Great list, we shared some of the same albums. Nice call on British Sea Power, they improved greatly on their debut cd from a couple years back and emerged as a band to look out for.
Not be picky but technically "In Rainbows" was a 2007 release online (remember the whole pay what you want download), but since it wasn't released in stores until 2008 I guess it counts. And besides its such a mind blowingly great album (tied with Neon Bible by Arcade Fire as my best of 2007) that maybe it deserves to be on both years lists.

I'm tired of people considering Spears to be one of the best musicians out there when there are far better musicians and role models who just so happen to be in a different genre, I'm also tired of hearing about it from gay guys who don't help the stereotype that all gay guys are into that kind of music, I've been trying to convince people otherwise for a good decade, and I'm still working on it.

I honestly gotta say that people are getting far more interesting when it comes to band names. Got some good choices on there.

As far as I've read, nobody has said she's one of the best musicians out there. I saw someone who thought her CD was the best of 2008. How does one person saying that play into a stereotype or translate that shes one of the best musicians?

Hmm, I hadnt heard the Be Your Own Pet album simply becasue I saw them live a couple years back opening for Arctic Monkeys and thought they were terrible (AM were fucking awesome). But based on your post Ill give "Awkward" a listen. They were/are very young so maybe they havent developed their live chops yet.

Its fair to say they are bad live they are more into jumping around then making it sound good. That said I was at there last gig in Dingwalls a few months ago and loved it.

They are much better sounding studio wise. It's high energy pop punk

here is a my fave track off the album

i would say get their first album... i think it was better than Get Awkward. they're both good, but i like the first better.

You have a weird taste in music

Yeah I guess. I would use the word eclectic but weird works (unless you were using it as a pejorative). Tell you what...you post your favorite cd's of the year (doesnt have to be 25) and I promise I won't judge your tastes. Cool?

sandcastle, you had a couple as well. Santogold is a great new artist on the scene and her debut CD is terrific. I also liked your selection of Janelle Monae, very similiar (but not identical) to Santogold. She's on the cutting edge of something, her fusion of hip hop & rock is where music will be going on the next few years. I thought her CD had a couple of clunkers or she would have rated in the top 25 easy, but I admire her ambition & uniqueness. Interesting that you had Solange as one of your best, but no mention of her sister...you didn't like the Sasha Fierce CD?

you know, i admire the fact beyonce was trying something, but like at the same time, it was a bit drawn out in parts, but the Cd was good, like Solange is to me a better artist, and her life is one that compares to mine so i see myself in solange if that makes sense. Dont get me wrong i bump the Sasha Fierce album at parties an when im feeling for it but i have 50+ plays on the Solange album and i love it.

now Janelle is an artist that isnt new to me, but the EP was released this year but I have had it for a year and a half and it still is amaizng. And as for Santogold, that cd has everything lol
