Susan Dominates Charts for a third week

With what seems to soon become the best selling album of the year in spite of its late release, Susan Boyle is dominating the music charts around the world with more than 3,5 million records sold so far.

Susan Boyle is heading a record sales race non stop, and sales are expected to pick up after tonight’s air of the documentary about Susan Boyle’s journey so far ‘I Dreamed a Dream: The Susan Boyle Story’.

Susan Boyle moved 527,000 copies of her album this week, which is a 25% drop from the previous week a strong hold for an album that has proved to be a complete success. If the album sales continue this path, Susan Boyle’s album will be America’s best selling album of the year, surpassing the sales of Taylor Swift who has moved 2.5 million copies to date.

British singing sensation Susan Boyle continues her dominance of the U.S. pop charts, with her orchestral-lite takes on boomer standards hitting a sweet spot with music buyers. In three weeks, her "I Dreamed a Dream" has sold a stunning 1.8 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, surpassing 2009 releases from such mega-stars as Eminem and Green Day, and even overtaking another TV-made phenomena -- the soundtrack to "Hannah Montana: The Movie," which has sold 1.7 million copies since its release in the spring.

How far can Boyle go? Expect her sales to coast through the holidays. It will be worth watching to see what happens in January, when music sales typically plummet. With comfy-soft renditions of "Daydream Believer," "Amazing Grace" and more, Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" is clearly built for holiday-timed sales, and it's taking full advantage.

Her album hit another milestone this week too, racking up an additional 582,000 copies sold. Billboard reports that "I Dreamed a Dream" is the first album by a woman to sell 500,000 copies in each of its first three weeks since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. If Boyle's pace stays relatively steady, and with three sales weeks left in 2009, including the two biggest of the year, her album could top 3 million copies sold and quite possibly become the year's top seller. But one week at a time.

Ok, SexyKev, I apologize for calling you a retard...

But I'm not going to retract my point that her album isn't double platinum.

Again, I'm not knocking Whitney Houston. I think she deserves the success that she's having because not many recovering drug addicts can have a career like she does.

I'm just saying, she doesn't have a double platinum album.

HAHA this is hella funny. So she's sold 2mil, not 2xplatinum. Spelling that out for some people that don't understand many things goes like this..... 1xplatinum in US & 1x platinum in whatever other country. 1 apple and 1 orange doesnt make 2 apples. idk why I'm even bothering with this. If that doesn't make sense go back to kindergarten and learn how to count. Psh NO need to apologize for saying something that's true.

Susan Boyle continues her reign at #1 with an additional 659,382 in the US where she is fast approaching 3X Platinum.

Even though she came in #2, Alicia Keys managed to sell 405,762 also putting her in the #2 position of first week sales for a female ahead of Whitney Houston.

^ The Grammy voters are faulty & biased (as hell). All the BIG DIVAS are never really Grammy "favorites" anyway. Anytime you have people like Beyonce and Alicia Keys -- two relatively "new" artists -- having won MORE Grammys than artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, ect -- people who paved the way and have been in the game 20 years or so, then you know somethin aint right.

Can someone please tell me why and how Alison Krauss has 26 grammies? Are they just giving them away?

:D But there's already a "mega-merged" thread dedicated to her and still the arguments pop up in here. Frown. :D:D

Once the fanatics admitted they were bumping the different Whitney threads and the merger occurred they've been pretty quiet. Notice the last Whitney posting here was about 12/13. Seems like Susan Boyle has left them speechless.

Funny how this thread started with bogus information to make up for the fact that Whitney failed to garner a single Grammy nomination. It was just a lashing out by a delusional fan. But how quickly things have changed in the last several weeks. Once the sympathy sales were exhausted Whitney's has been trumped by a runner up from a talent contest many times over. As Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige release new material she continues to plunge in the standings.

That's when you change tactics - quality not quantity. Drag out the positive reviews, and shake your head that the public didn't respond to such a brilliant album.

There's just no stopping Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream."

The album continues to lock up the top slot on the Billboard 200 chart for a fourth week in a row, selling 661,000 copies (up 14%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. "I Dreamed a Dream" has now sold a total of 2,465,000 copies and is the second-best selling album of 2009. Only Taylor Swift's "Fearless" -- with 2,933,000 sold -- is standing in its way. And with two weeks left in the 2009 tracking year, anything is possible.

Susan Boyle Likely To Beat Mary J. Blige For No. 1 Album

She kept Alicia Keys' "The Element of Freedom" from topping the Billboard 200 this week, and now it's looking like Susan Boyle will block another diva -- Mary J. Blige -- from the No. 1 slot.

Industry sources suggest that Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" could sell another 500,000 by week's end on Sunday night (Dec. 27). That will be enough to fend off Blige's just-released "Stronger With Each Tear," which is on course to sell perhaps around 300,000 to 350,000 -- and possibly more. The queen of hip-hop/soul's last release, "Growing Pains," was released on Dec. 18, 2007 and bowed at No. 2 with 629,000. It moved to No. 1 the following week.

Susan Boyle Spends Fifth Week At No. 1 On Billboard 200

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" holds at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for a fifth consecutive week, selling another 510,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. So far, the set has shifted 2,982,000 copies in America.

"Dream" has sold more than half a million copies in each of its first five weeks of release -- something only four albums have done since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. The Beatles' "1" did it in its first six weeks, while Garth Brooks' "Sevens" and Backstreet Boys' "Black & Blue" each managed 500,000-plus frames in their first five weeks.

With just one more tracking week left in the year, "Dream" may overtake Taylor Swift's "Fearless" as the year's top selling album in the U.S. Swift's "Fearless" has sold 3,157,000 in 2009 -- thus, the gap between the two is down to just 175,000. Because of a quirk in the calendar, instead of 52 tracking weeks in 2009, there are 53. The final week of 2009 will reflect sales data for the week ending Jan. 3. Because four out of the seven days in that week fall in 2009, the full week gets credited to 2009.

Believe it or not, with the continued domination of "I Dreamed a Dream," Boyle is the first artist in the Billboard 200's 53-year chart history to enter the list at No. 1 with a debut album and spend five consecutive weeks at the summit. In second place are Lauryn Hill (1998) and Ashanti (2002), each with three weeks in charge out of the gate with "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" and "Ashanti," respectively.
