Susan Boyle Tops Lady Gaga In 2009 U.K. Sales Race

Susan Boyle's debut album "I Dreamed A Dream" (Syco/Sony Music Entertainment) needed just six weeks on sale to overtake Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal) and score the biggest U.K. album sale of 2009.

According to the Official Charts Company, "Dream" has sold more than 1.5 million copies since it was released Nov. 23 - enough to edge out Gaga, whose "The Fame" spent 34 weeks in the top 10 last year and made No. 2 overall for 2009. However, Gaga's "Poker Face" did top the aggregate 2009 singles chart, while "Just Dance" made No. 3 behind Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" (Interscope/Universal).

Susan Boyle Vs. Taylor Swift Nailbiter For 2009 Sales Crown

As the new year is ushered in, it's looking like Susan Boyle will celebrate a sixth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, as industry prognosticators project her "I Dreamed a Dream" album may sell about 150,000 to 165,000 copies by week's end on Sunday (Jan. 3) night.

As we've been reporting, Boyle's "Dream" has been swiftly catching up toTaylor Swift's "Fearless," which is currently the top selling album of 2009. Now, with one week left to go, it's looking like "Dream" may fall just a bit short in the race.

Presently, "Fearless'" 2009 total stands at 3,157,000, while "Dream" is at 2,982,000.

With "Fearless" projected to sell in the neighborhood of 65,000 to 75,000 this week, it looks like Boyle's "Dream" will not close the gap between the two, and "Fearless" will remain the year's top seller.

If "Dream" sells its projected amount this week, the year will close with two albums -- "Dream" and "Fearless" -- having sold at least 3 million. The last time that happened was in 2006, when three sets managed the trick: the soundtrack to "High School Musical" (3.7 million), Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (3.5 million) and Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (3.0 million)

Taylor Swift Edges Susan Boyle For 2009's Top-Selling Album

Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" reigns for a sixth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 137,000 (down 73%) according to Nielsen SoundScan, bringing her cumulative sales total up to 3,104,000. However, while that is a huge sales sum -- especially considering it was totaled in just six weeks time -- it's not enough to overtake Taylor Swift's "Fearless" as 2009's top selling album. The latter is at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 this week, selling another 60,000 -- bringing its 2009 total to 3,217,000.

Of course, Boyle can rest easy in knowing that her "Dream" is but one of just two albums to sell at least 3 million copies in the U.S. last year -- something that hasn't happened since 2006, when three albums did it. Boyle's "Dream" is also 2009's top selling album released last year (Swift's "Fearless" dropped in late 2008), and was also the top selling physical album of 2009. Of its overall 2009 total, physical CDs accounted for 3,019,000 copies, whereas digital downloads made up a rather tiny 86,000.

That's probably because Beyoncé plays a large part in writing/producing her own stuff, unlike the other three divas.

You're the delusional one. Mariah, for once, has always written, produced and composed her own music. She's been writing since she was barely a teenager yet and having ideas for melodies, arrangements, etc, etc...all this ever since an extremely young age.

As it's been said already...when the ones who truly paved the way for today's "it" artists are overlooked...then there's clearly something wrong.
