Chapter 790 – Getting To Know Troy
Having just been introduced to Lucky and hugs from Neal and Troy out of the way, Troy told Lucky how great it was to meet him as he had heard so much about him, plus he was kind of a famous cop as far as the department and academy graduates were concerned.
“I just did my job, Troy. That’s what they pay us to do. You’ll see soon enough,” Lucky told him.
“Well, I feel privileged to be able to work with you. I’m sure all the rookies coming on board would have given anything to be assigned to you,” Troy told Lucky, who smiled.
“Are you blowing smoke up my ass before we even get started?” Lucky asked. Troy and Neal chuckled as did I. Neal said he told Troy to watch out for Lucky as he was a character for sure.
“I need to tell you a couple of critical things about Troy, Lucky. Troy is my younger cousin. His mother and my father were brother and sister. I’m a few years older than him. I think you’re about three years older than he is. I think you’re 25 and he’s 22. He didn’t go to college but has been doing some construction work for a couple of years, then decided he wanted to be cop of all things. My aunt got in touch with me and asked about our program here in Uni. That’s how he got here. He’s currently living with Conner and me, but once he starts work, he’s planning on getting his own place. I’m sure he’d like to have his own privacy and life without Conner and me, although we’ve enjoyed having him,” Neal stated.
“Hey, Cuz, you and Conner have been great taking care of me and mentoring me for this job. I couldn’t be more grateful,” Troy chimed in, impressing me with his respect for Neal and Conner.
“Thanks, Troy, and we’ve enjoyed having you, but I’m sure you want to get on with your own life now that you’ll be graduating. The other thing is that Troy is gay in case Josh didn’t tell you. Seeing as how gay friendly you are with Josh and all his crew, Conner and I thought you’d be the best fit for a partner where you can help him navigate better in a straight world. Troy isn’t in the closet, just like Conner and I aren’t either, but you never know with all these rookies coming on board and a few of our old non-openminded crusty bastards we still have, what kind of shit they might try to dish out to him. We figured you could set him straight and be much better to mentor him as he starts out his career. It’s a shame Rowen didn’t make it through the class and has to take part of it again. In all honesty that really sucks, but the rules are the rules. He chose to take care of his partner first, giving up his chance to graduate this Saturday. Conner is definitely going to recognize his efforts and commitment to his partner for helping you, Lucky. We’re all quite proud of the boy and hope he hangs in there to finish up in the fall when he’ll get another chance,” Neal explained.
“He’s not going to be here, Neal. Our boy is going elsewhere to help out in other areas as this crazy crime bust continues. I’m not allowed to say where as he trusted me not to say, but I’m proud of him, damn proud of him. I owe him so much for what he’s done for me. His perseverance in helping to take care of me is remarkable and commendable. I hope Conner does do something to recognize his efforts,” Lucky replied. Neal said it was disappointing he wouldn’t be returning to finish out his course and graduate in the fall, but he felt whatever he was doing, he’d be doing a great job for sure.
“I just hope I can gain your trust like Rowen did, Lucky. I’m committed to doing whatever needs to be done in that area to prove myself worthy of your partner,” Troy added. Lucky smiled at him.
“I hope so, and likewise, Troy. We have to unconditionally support one another in all our duties,” Lucky told him. Neal and Troy both agreed. “So, you’re gay, huh?” Lucky asked with a smile. Troy told him indeed he was. “Have you ever been to the CNB then on Saturday nights?” Lucky asked him. Troy smiled embarrassingly.
“Sure, a couple of times. I saw you there doing the security detail. You looked sharp in your uniform,” Troy replied to Lucky’s smile.
“Is he hitting on me already, Neal?” Lucky chided making Troy laugh. “Makes me feel kind of special in a way,” he added. Neal rolled his eyes.
“Troy, all I can say as this is going to be an interesting partnership, but I can assure you it will be a lot of fun also. Lucky is a character, but he’s a great cop first and foremost, helping to just bust up one of the largest crime rings in the country. He was even undercover where Conner and I didn’t know what he was doing. You have to watch Josh also as he gets involved with things and then clues us in later when maybe we should have been at the start of something,” Neal added. I gave him an innocent look. “And watch out as he has a stable of great gay friends that are shareholders in his company and all work for each other in a way. They care about each other and support one another also. He’s built one hell of an organization. I’m sure, hanging with Lucky you’ll meet a lot of those great guys that are of our mindset.
“So, Troy, do you drink beer also?” Lucky asked, anxious to know. Troy said he absolutely drank beer. “Well good because Josh has this invitation to his close personal friends of which I am one of them, and you being my partner, will also be one of them, every weeknight after work, which he calls beer-thirty. The beer and food are free to us so we make use of that invitation and just enjoy the fellowship of all the great friends that are part of that. Josh told me you were welcome to come with or without me, as far as he’s concerned. He’s been trying to get Neal and Conner to attend also, but they seem to be busy,” Lucky told him. Troy said that sounded like fun.
“Well, it is always fun to hang with Josh and his friends, but we don’t always get that opportunity. But when we do, we do have a great time. Josh has been a great friend to Conner and me. We couldn’t ask for a better friend than him and his boyfriend, Jake, plus all his friends involved with their company. They’re just great people,” Neal said.
“Hey, Neal, in a couple of weeks we’re going to have an open house at the new brewery we just opened that’s producing our signature IPA. You and Conner need to attend that open house and sample the new great beer,” I said, extending an invitation to the two. Neal said that sounded like fun, asking if Troy and Lucky would be there also. “That goes without saying. They are family as far as we’re concerned, and are welcome to anything we do,” I replied.
“Damn, Troy, did you ever hit it big teaming up with Lucky. I didn’t realize all the extra benefits that went with that assignment,” Neal replied.
“Somehow, I think I’m really going to like this assignment, Cuz,” Troy replied. I told Troy there were many more, but we’d talk about those later. “Sounds fantastic already. Free beer, free food, fellowship with others like me, I mean, it’s starting off rather fantastic right off the bat,” Troy replied. I assured him it was.
Neal said now that the two had gotten acquainted, he needed to go back to work, but told Lucky he was sticking Troy by his side until he returned to duty so to utilize him however he needed, mostly training him and reviewing police force policy and procedure so he’d be ready to go when the two hit the streets again. Lucky said he’d appreciate the company if nothing else, as he was sure they had a lot to talk about. Neal thanked him, saying he knew Troy was in great hands with him. Lucky assured Neal he was and he’d keep him safe. Neal did give Lucky and I a hug before he left, telling me to stay out of trouble. I chuckled, telling him that was always my goal, except trouble seemed to find me for some reason.
After Neal left, I told the boys I was off also, but I’d send lunch over from the CNB. Troy was surprised to hear that. “Hey, there isn’t a better friend than this guy here and most of his staff and friends, Troy. I love him to death and would do anything in the world for him. He’s like a guardian angel if there ever was one,” Lucky told him. I got up and gave Lucky a hug, then forgetting who was with us, gave him a quick kiss on the lips, turning around to see a strange look on Troy’s face. Lucky laughed. “Oh, this kiss. Troy I gave up on fighting that a long time ago as it wasn’t worth the effort to complain about it. The truth is it feels good to me now. Nothing to be embarrassed about as much as I love this guy and he loves me. I could care less who sees me kiss him,” Lucky explained making Troy smile. I chuckled then gave Troy a hug.
“Can I get to the point where I can kiss you also since I’m Lucky’s partner?” Troy asked me. I told him anytime, then leaned in and gave him a kiss also, making him beam. “Oh, gees, that feels great already. You guys have me hooked. I’ve never kissed a friend before like that, and it feels fantastic,” he said, making Lucky and I chuckle. I told him he might as well get used to it as we always kissed each other to show our affection for one another. Troy seemed excited to hear that.
I told Troy I hoped to see him later at beer-thirty if he wanted to come. He said he’d try to make it as it sounded like a heck of an opportunity to meet some of the other guys. I told the two to have fun today and enjoy getting to know one another.
