The Dark Knight

BlackWolf: I don't think Nolan would be scared of the CG effects of Frieze, and if for some reason he decided to do the character they'd probably look great, but the powers of the character himself present a problem. There's no real way to make an ice cannon and a chryogenic suit fit into Nolan's version of Gotham. It's too far-fetched.

Two-Face is dead. Nolan is trying to create a realistic enviroment and bringing Two-Face back wont work and would create too many problems in the story. As far as the next movies villain I think we can count out characters like Mr. Freeze, Penguin, and Posion Ivy because they are very hard to translate into the realstic type of character. Just look at how they were protrayed in the past... over the top and campy. That really isnt want Nolan wants (Though I could possibly see Poison Ivy as some kind of eco-terrorist). However I could see character like the Riddler, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, or Taila Al Ghul showing up in the next movie.

But here are some of my suggestions for the characters...

The Riddler - Paul Giamatti
Harley Quinn - Helena Bohnam Carter
Catwoman - Rachel Weisz
Taila Al Ghul - Monica Belucci
Poison Ivy - Jennifer Connoly

Completely disagree with The Penguin.

Your post makes no sense, with respect to asking us to compare them to the past versions. You say their past versions were "over the top". And many of them were. Case and point ... don't you think Two Face by Tommy Lee Jones was horrendous? Look at what they did with him in this film.

It's all about the vision for the character. And yes, as Batman's second most famous villain, second to only The Joker, I think The Penguin deserves to be in one of his films.

Assuming Harvey Dent is dead, which is a safe assumption ...

My recommendations for the next film are:

Hugo Weaving as The Riddler- the main villain

and ...

Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin- the next movie's main mob boss, taking the place of Boss Maroni- serving as the film's minor villain that is seen throughout the movie. This Penguin is not a completely deformed human like Burton's version ... but rather simply a mob boss, who is short, stocky, has a longer nose, and of course his trademark black umbrella.

That would make for a kickass combination and an awesome film.

Well since this thread is filled with people raving about it, I wont rave...

but It was definetly the best movie Ive seen so far this summer...for sure, THOUGH I didnt seen Iron Man, and I heard just as amazing reviews about that movie, and I havent seen both to compare the 2 (yes I know that ones DC and one is MARVEL and you cant compare the 2 franchises, but that has NOTHING to do with the BEST MOVIE OF THE SUMMER)

Oldman said it but that doesn't really mean anything does it? At this point no one knows what's going to be in the third film when Christopher Nolan has said several times He doesn't know yet - hasn't even thought about it.

"Next, I asked Christopher Nolan if he wanted to come back for a third Batman film, and he said that he wasn't sure that he wanted to come back, "I don't know. I take my projects one at a time, and I am not thinking about that right now. I don't know if I want to come back." After that, I asked, "If you do choose to make a third Batman film, do you think that you would recast for the Joker? Or will he not appear in the film?"

Nolan's replay, "I don't know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don't know. I simply don't know."
http://www.movieweb.com/news/18/29618.php

I don't think anyone is talking about going ahead with the third film without Nolan at the helm. So anything at this point is PURE speculation.

Joker and Two Face were both featured in previous Batman movies so the statement they they prefer to show villains not used in previous versions is kind of retarded.

Penguin has been remolded in the comics as an underworld figure. He owns a nightclub and he's the guy who can "get" things for you. In his current comic incarnation he would not be "too hard to portray" he would actually work perfectly.

Only Tim Burton's version of the Penguin was a deformed freak that lived in the sewers. That has never been true in the comics.

Just to clarify a little - the wikipedia article is quoting some pretty old articles.

David Goyer was quoted before the first film came out saying he didn't want to use previous villains. The Second movie featured Two Face and the Joker so that obviously changed.

Christopher Nolan was quoted about the Penguin when the Prestige came out before filming for The Dark Knight even began. It is clear they read some Batman comics since then so maybe he will realize that Tim Burton's version of the Penguin has no relation to the current underworld character in the comics.

Gary Oldman has been quoted saying the Riddler will be in the next one but Christopher Nolan has said he has not even thought about it yet.

There will be no Robin. Nolan has stated in multiple interview that this is a young Batman. Robin will be left for future films (once he's done). Christian Bale has also stated that he would not be interested in starring in a movie that had Robin joining him.

As to the news that Nolan has not signed on for the third film, I think it was at San Diego Comic Con that Nolan said he might be tired or it might just be a negotiating tactic.

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

I'm glad it has done so well. I hope it continues to rake it in. I am already anticipating the sequel. Do we know if it's a done deal? Has it been officially announced?

The official announce was the $ 155 million plus opening weekend.

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

This probably being the most hyped movie in history and being opened in more theaters than any other movie before it makes the record numbers less than surprising for me. People wouldn't shut up about this thing over the past year and then Ledger's death caused interest in the film to shoot through the roof.
It's a far cry from Batman Begins which critics loved but kind of got off to a slow start at the box office because not so many people gave a damn. But with the endless hype surrounding the Dark Knight there was no way it wouldn't break records.
And we can't forget it's being played in more theaters than any movie ever. So this thing was set up to rake in the $$$.

The critics more than loved this Dark Knight. Some papers were going above their normal 4 stars and hitting it with 5 star ratings. The hype was well worth their efforts because they weren't selling us a pig in a poke. This movie rocks. It is a heart stopper from beginning to end, and the Joker as played by Heath Ledger is the best ever in films. What a knockout performance. And we all love Christian Bale as Batman. I will see this several times before it leaves theaters and I want to see it in IMAX, too.

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

It definitely deserves it. A great example of the film living up to the hype, and then surpassing the hype. This movie was amazing, one of the best I personally have ever seen. I will defintely being seeing this again. I am usually not a person to ever buy movies either, but I think I will HAVE to buy this movie just in case.

I think we will see DVD sales through the roof as well. As the market for selling hard copies of media dies away, many people will most likely be rushing to the stores for this movie. Imagine the special features and extras that they are going to jam pack into the DVD!!!

"THE DARK KNIGHT"
EXCEEDS BOX OFFICE EARLY EXPECTATIONS

Although some industry analysts had contended that Warner Bros. had inflated its estimate of what The Dark Knight took in on Sunday so that it could claim a record weekend, the final box office result showed that the studio's estimate was actually conservative. The film grossed $158.3 million, some $3 million more than the studio's forecast, according to the final figures from box-office trackers Media by Numbers. Perhaps most impressive of all was the per-theater gross at IMAX venues -- an average of more than $67,000 each. And that doesn't count profits from IMAX tickets that were scalped on eBay for upwards of $50 apiece.

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

I dont know If im the only one, but Im not in love with it. One: it was toooo long. Two: it just wasnt that great. I dont know, maybe I expected too much. It was okay but not box-office breaking records good.

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

I thought it was awesome and can't wait to see what direction they will take the franchise.

The new Watchmen trailer that was attached to the print was kick ass as well. I found it funny that it had the smashing pumpkins song attached to it from the Batman and Robin soundtrack. Unlike the movie the song was awesome and was the perfect choice for the preview...|

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

The Dark Knight was a 5 out of ten. I have seen Films that are better...Wall-E, The Machinist, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, Batman Begins, these are films that I liked more...and I have seen movies that are hyped, but crappy in the same time...Spiderman, Hellboy, The Hulk, anything with Steve Carell in it ... the point is that movies about comic book characters have a sort of love-hate appeal, and they will never rise above particularity within the masses' opinion. I have never seen the original Batman comics and am not sure how events take place, but I think that after the disappointing show that I saw In Batman, the only movies I will ever go see are none! They all suck...have a good day!

It'sjust a movie anyway, not like it matters in real life!

Sleep tight.

Saw it last night.

It has been some time since I enjoyed a movie so much.

Heath was great. Damn fine acting perfomance imo. Sad that he is not here to enjoy his finest moment.

But what was with Bales voice as Batman. That was the only downer for me.

But what was with Bales voice as Batman. That was the only downer for me.

That fake voice is a trick he's been playing since "Batman begins".
He tries to disguise his actual voice like he does with the rest of her body, and that deep tone also makes him sound even more intimidating.
