Rita Martinez, Chicana activist and civil rights reformer, has died of COVID-19 at age 65.

RIP Casey Lee Ross

He passed away yesterday, per multiple postings on social media. No cause of death being stated anywhere. Most recently on Broadway in the revival of Miss Saigon. Wonderful dancer and acrobat. Sad to see another young life gone so suddenly. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

If you feel glib about the death of a COVID victim at 41, then you are no better than the homophobes who disregarded the deaths of gay men as AIDS took them by the thousands. They said that gay men were engaging in high risk sex, without protection, in an era that certainly knew of venereal diseases even if it did not know about HIV yet.

Their indifference was self-serving, just as yours is.

My first reaction was nothing about glibness at all, but "just sayin'" that even a 41-year-old Congressman-elect, who presumably has access to better care than most of us, can die from it. And, therefore, people REALLY need to get a clue and take this seriously.

Whenever I get my vaccination, I will not let up on my safety protocols.
