you know what would be a fascinating study? Life expectancy of colonists vs the colonized. A cursory glance leads me to conclude the people who pillaged the land and hoarded wealth and resources live much longer than the people they left behind and said "Good luck cleaning up this mess. Kinda sorry but not really."
