Steve Harley (Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice), Cockney Rebel singer, from cancer at 73.

I've never actually seen a picture of him before. That man knew how to dress! I'll take Steve Harley over Paul Weller any day.

No, the Apfel was not the very last one, there are a couple left, like Franklin Bershir Zimmerman of Roger Corman... then there is the 1932-3 batch too.

It's funny that I do not recall him from "Blade Runner", which my brother made me swallow as a kid several times, or from "Knives Out" (AT ALL), which are the two they are mentioning as hallmarks in his career, yet I keep associating him with a job that wasn't performed by him.

Couldn't you choose a pic in which we can not see him at the very point in which he is deciding how and when to commit suicide...

In the wake of the scandal reports revealed that Jooste's hard-nosed executive style earned him a nickname, "the seagull", as he would "fly in and shit all over his subordinates before flying out." Media articles also identified his supposed mistress who occupied a luxury apartment in Bantry Bay, owned by Malcolm King.

Quod me alit me extinguit. Money will ruin everything.

Maurizio Pollini, pianist, aged 82. This doesn't seem to have been reported anywhere. The man was a giant, for crying out loud!

I'm kicking myself for not going to hear him in London last year. He cancelled and rescheduled a recital owing to ill health. He was a chain smoker, I should have guessed it would be his last hurrah.

One of the few performers of Mozart worth listening to, despite not recording in period instruments.
His death was announced last evening: it did not make any headlines, and I had not bothered to go far beyond the Katie and Putin clot.

“Art itself, if it is really great, has a progressive aspect that is needed by a society, even if it seems absolutely useless in strictly practical terms,” Mr. Pollini told The Guardian in 2011. “In a way, art is a little like the dreams of a society. They seem to contribute little, but sleeping and dreaming are vitally important in that a human couldn’t live without them, in the same way a society cannot live without art.”

Such a sad loss, so many World Heritage masterpieces yet to be created, lost forever...

"It is made of two curved walls which enhance its unbalanced dynamics. Furthermore, it creates two different atmospheres: on the one hand, an area with a gazebo, benches and trees providing shade and darkness; on the other, a warm and sandy esplanade having the palm tree as key feature. This sculpture emphasizes the undetermined landscape up to the extent of thinking that, according to Serra, “the dialectic between strolling around the landscape and watching it is the basis of the experience of this sculpture”."

They should let it be covered with graffiti art....it is a perfect tabula rasa.
