I think he should be applauded for looking up stuff he isn't familiar with. So many have the attitude that it isn't relevant to them because it is pre-2000

Absolutely. We have become friends, even with him a far right conservative Roman Catholic, straight, and pretty much an engineer in accountant's clothing.

I was a guest at their home for dinner Saturday early evening and met his wife and three small children. The kids were unruly, as most families are today, but charming, as was his wife. They have a sweet family. I felt honored being asked to meet them.

Billy Bean is one of the activists who chose to work behind the scenes to make changes happen for LGBT people.

In 1995, when Bean was playing for the San Diego Padres, his partner died of HIV-related complications. Bean was still in the closet and chose not to attend his partner's funeral services for fear of being outed. He retired from baseball that year. He came out as gay in 1999.
