The Falklands: An Obama Betrayal?

Oh Lord.

At the very least, without it, we'd never have had the musical Evita rack up billions in revenue in the US.

There. Feel Better?

Looks like we help them. How are they helping us?

Yeah Paraguay's response has been quite inadequate when it comes to that region. Argentina has done far more, and when I visited Igazcu falls, I noticed a significant amount of security. They want the area to be for tourism, not smuggling and potentially terrorism. I'm unsure of Brazil's response... I think that'll need more research. Either way, Argentina I think deals with most of it (Misiones province).

Misiones while a poor province relative to the rest of Argentina, has grown tremendously in the last few years. Their economy almost doubled since 2006. This should help counter trafficking.

This article is in Spanish, but discusses Misiones as being the leader of economic growth in Argentina.

That stretched my Spanish a bit. Some of those numbers are amazing!

How much longer is Argentina going to continue with these silly propaganda exercises? Clearly there is an agenda being pushed by the government over there, who no doubt see popular votes and support in it. :##:

The only thing that remains to be seen at this stage is JUST how far they're willing to push their luck.

My prediction: They will try and engineer a MINOR little naval skirmish of some kind involving one of their boats 'straying' into British waters or something like that. Or maybe a plane 'straying' into Falklands airspace.

The point is (of course) to force the U.K. into a very minor defensive action - and then the Argentinian regime will (of course) jump up and down screaming "Attack!" "British aggression!" "Military colonialism!" "We will defend our country!"

It's already getting tiresome.

I can only imagine the welcome the argentine olympic delegation will have prepared for themselves in london.

Unless they use it as a propaganda exercise - not much I would think. I think we will be too busy watching others for security. Theres going to be lots of demonstrations or "incidents" in London in July to get the worlds media attention.

They could take a page from FDR's book, and put all Muslims in concentration camps for the duration.
