The Frank Ocean thread

Well I doubt a lot of people on this board haven't heard of Frank Ocean but in the hip hop and the African American community this was huge news last month. The good thing is most people are supportive of Frank and his album debut at number two on the billboard charts selling over 131,000 copies in the first week!

You made some valid points but Black folks STILL go to Wanda Sykes Comedy Concerts...Black folks STILL watch Don Lemon on CNN and listen to him when he does his News-spot on The Warren Ballentine radio show....Waren has the MOST Liberal & Conservative Black listeners out of all the liberal radio shows and they havent threatened to stop listening because Don is reporting the News...

So what does that tell you? The Media says the majority of Blacks are homophobic...Do any of your Black friends & relatives HATE on Gays?....Mine don't and I've been knowing my Black relatives for a long time...

As Black people we have to STOP letting the Media DEFINE us..We're not as bad as they make us out to be....We are the MOST forgiving race of people in America...That is a FACT...

I agree I also don't let the media define me as a black man. Some black people are anti gay and some are NOT. And I think that non blacks need to realize is there are actually a lot of black people that are very supportive of LGBT people. The mainstream white media seems to want to present this racist message that blacks hate gays. It isn't true I'm out to my own family and my relatives know as well. It is annoying when outsiders talk about the black race when they aren't one of us.

Frank Ocean Sets Internet Ablaze with Rumors of New Male Model Boyfriend

A photo posted on Sunday night by Frank Ocean to his Instagram feed shows the hip-hop star embraced from behind by another man with long, brown hair.

The man, identified by multiple news outlets as a male model from France named Willy Cartier, is rumored to be Ocean's current boyfriend.

Cartier has reappeared in Ocean's Twitter feed recently, with the singer even going so far as to tease a possible marriage on the horizon: "Marry em, make em American," Ocean tweeted on Sunday morning.

But the new photo of Cartier and Ocean is a little different from the others: Rather than a candid snapshot, it looks to be taken from a movie screen -- leading many fans to believe that Cartier has been cast in the next music video from Ocean's acclaimed debut album, Channel Orange, which on Monday was named Spin's Album of the Year.

Responding to the torrent of fan comments that accompanied the photo, Ocean wrote, "Lol y'all are crazy. Remember, everyone goes to the grave. Let me live."

Ocean revealed in a Tumblr post written last July that he had fallen in love with another man -- a courageous act for an artist working within an infamously homophobic industry. Instead of backfiring, however, the deeply personal revelation elicited a tidal wave of support -- and rocketed Ocean's career to the next level.
Meanwhile, Tyler the Creator, the eccentric leader of the Odd Future hip-hop collective where Ocean got his start, pays homage to his protege in a short interview given to GQ for their 2012 Men of the Year series. In it, he admits that Ocean's sudden mainstream success -- Ocean has penned songs for Beyonce and Justin Bieber and collaborated with Kanye West and Jay-Z -- has managed to eclipse his own.

"I was broke as f--- a year and a couple months ago," Tyler says. "[Frank] would take me and a couple other friends to random restaurants and meet all his other famous friends and s---. It was cool. It was like this other life I didn't know. He had a nice-ass car."

But Ocean's amazing 2012 run will not end with a single on the soundtrack for Django Unchained, the new movie from Quentin Tarantino. Though he had written a ballad for the film, the song was nowhere to be found on the official track listing.

The absence is explained by the director in a statement made to Pitchfork.com.

"Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn't a scene for it," Tarantino says. "I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that's not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn't want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they'll realize it then."

Frank Ocean

I really like Frank Ocean and his music. I also think that he was very brave to sing Forrest Gump at the Grammys tonight.

I was hoping for some sort of mashup of his songs, especially for his Grammys debut.
I don't think that it came across as well as he may have hoped.

Re: Frank Ocean

People are saying how horrendous it is.

I'd love to know where this guy would be had it not been for that letter he wrote. Miguel >>>>>

Letter ?

Yeah, I had a difficult time watching it. I know that he's shy so Idk if that had anything to do with it.

Re: Frank Ocean

yeah you could definitely tell he was nervous. It was mediocre at best. I still loved the album. It's a classic in my eyes.

Congratulations on your Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

That was weird. I kept expecting him to do something else. Very weird...I still don't know what to think about that.

i dont find his music immediately captivating but forrest gump was brave.
i thought what ruined the grammy's was justin timberlake (acting like the show was about him) and getting ryan seacrest as honorary chair or something (this is the same guy who produces the kardashian)

People who have been to his concerts say he is flawless at those. They are all miffed at his Grammy's performance. I guess the idea of a televised audience of millions freaked him out a little.

lold when everyone gave him a standing ovation when he won the award except chris brown. Adele confronted him about it. I was just thinking if he it her or said anything derogatory to her that would be the end of his career. I was kind of hoping for it.

"Frank Ocean" is there any song that is special and i like ?
Don't know any so far.

Everyone did not give him a standing ovation, they panned the other nominee, Miguel, and he clapped like Chris Brown and then he lean back and put his arm around his date, he wasn't standing. This is just gossip fodder. I didn't clap for anyone except Adele, Fun. and Gotye, lol.

Frank is def a nice-looking Brotha..I didnt see the GRAMMY performance but I've seen clips...Now I see why he's been behind the scenes through out his young career...My first impression of Frank is that he seemed a bit strange..I don't wanna say anymore than that because I havent seen any of his sit-down interviews or anything and he was nervous @ the Grammys....But from the clips I saw he gave off a strange-vibe to the Cameras...Huntneo defines it his way but I see something different...

Not only that but sometimes Songwriters/Producers arent the best Singers/Performers...We all know Puff Daddy thinks he's the BEST dancer since Mr. Bojangles but he really needed to sit down before he stood up a long time ago.....Kandi Burruss is another one...We LOVE Kandi on The Housewives of the ATL and her amazing Songwriting/Producing has made her Filthy Rich, but her voice is whine-City...I probably won't EVER buy ONE of Kandi's anything because she sings like an aggravating Woman that does nothing but Nag & Whine all day long...
