The Goddess of Pop: The Official Kylie Minogue Thread

Sorry, maybe I'm getting old, but this is pretty much how I feel.

The end of my love affair with Kylie Minogue

Dear Kylie,

This is probably going to hurt me a lot more than it hurts you and, trust me, I have given it a lot of thought ... I have decided it's time we broke up.

Yes, after nearly 30 years together, from cassettes to my iPod, I just can't do this any more.

I think the clincher came last week when I heard your latest album and it came to the track Sexercise.

Yes, I was a little perplexed by the track title, too, given we both grew up in the era of the Rancan Sisters, Jane Fonda and all those horrendous high-cut leotards.

But here we are in 2014 and you are singing a song called Sexercise without a hint of irony, purring: ''If love's a drug, we're higher than stilettos.''

Well, Kylie darling, I confess I cringed when I heard that lyric. Higher than stilettos? Seriously? You (or Sia, who is credited with writing the track) couldn't have come up with anything a little more, erm, insightful, after 45 years on planet Earth? This is the best you have after all those life experiences?

After living with the album for two weeks in the car, at home, at work, on the go, I finally deleted it. See you next Tuesday when the new charts are revealed.

Kylie Minogue’s new clip for Sexercise is lame and laughable

As Australia’s pop princess bounces up and down, breathing heavily and arching her back, on a gym ball — backed by a group of women doing the same thing — the effect is *supposed to be sensual. *Unfortunately it’s laughable, mainly because the song accompanying it has Minogue singing over and over, in what appears to be a faux American accent — “sexeeeercise”.

There are also some sweaty scenes flashed up where Minogue appears to be in a clinch with another woman, which is apparently all a bit of a tease, as part of the “choreography”.

It’s moments like these in music which say a lot about an artist.

I bought the CD and have listened to the album only 3 times.

Apart from Into The Blue and Sexercise, I think the first half of the album is weakest.

The second half is great. I really like Beautiful, Fine, Mr President and Sleeping With The Enemy.

I'm sure that the rest of the songs will grow on me too.

Go Kylie! You brighten my day.

The very first piece of music I ever bought with my own money was Kylie's Locomotion single with a B side called Glad To Be Alive. Ahhh da memories. I loved her up until the mid 90's. Now those memories are mixed in with many memories of the real Kylie. Like the time she was throwing her guts up outside the old Sydney nightclub The Freezer with Michael Hutchence holding back her hair and saying "you shouldn't of taken that last e"....10 mins later she's on the dance floor again. Bless 'er, she was a real trooper. He was always gross.

I've seen you write this before, I'm not calling you a liar but I can't imagine Kylie being that sloppy in public as classy as she is. I can't imagine him saying she shouldn't have taken drugs in public either, but if that's the truth feel free to elaborate more, I'd love to hear all about your night out. I'm genuinely interested. :D

Well, I'm not here to try and make you believe anything. People come to JUB to interact and tell stories that they feel they can contribute to. This thread was an easy one.

But to elaborate...I lived in Sydney for 20 years and worked in the film, tv or magazine industry for all that time. People I knew, knew her and their stories are much more interesting then mine but it's not hard to have found yourself in the late 80's/early 90's going to the same parties or events around Oxford Street and elsewhere that she attended. That story about her in the gutter sticks with me because it's the first time I saw her in real life and I guess it put a bubble in my idealism of her. That night friends and I were in line ready to go into The Freezer so this was happening right next to us. I went to that bar for the next to years and she and/or Michael were regulars there. She could get very messy and he was worse. I've had dealings with him not knowing where he was, barman I knew there scrambling to wake him up in the bathrooms - barf.
There are places "celebs" will go to and no one cares who they are, that's why they go. Oxford St had many stories over the years (Keanu, Leo Dicaprio, Claire Danes, Kiefer Sutherland) that place was just one of them. Anyway, who was gonna talk about it in the press? Writers and Editors? Half of those mag people could've been found coked up inside anyway. It's a scene. Some people see it, some people don't. It's just a bit different from the world of publication and fansite construction. Simple.

^ Happy to pass on stories via PM, CupidBoy but I'd be hesitant to post them in the main thread. I've sat back long enough on this site to see others (e.g. illgetbi) who had his own stories and then he get crucified for them. I'm not sure if he was legit on everything he said but he said enough for me think he was at least on to something - but I'm not about to follow in the same footsteps.

Finally listened to the cd last night for the first time. We both loved it and were quite impressed by the collection of catchy songs. We are not her biggest fans, I do like her more than my partner, but he was quite happy about the music and how well put together the album is. It is quite obvious that she knows what she is doing. Cheers, will party with it again tonight.

Maybe ETT was right.

After just 2 weeks it disappeared from the Billboard TOP 200

After just 4 weeks it disappeared from the Untied World Chart Top 40

After just 5 weeks it has failed to sell at least 150K WORLDWIDE

I have played I Was Gonna Cancel on loop for a week. I still don't know if it's terrible or friggin brilliant but with the headphones on that 80's synth beat sounds great to me.

She was at the GLAAD media awards recently and did an acapella version of Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

I saw this picture from Australian Vogue today Cupid, thought you might like it.

There were always rumors she was a cokewhore and of course the "press" sometimes "protects" some. She been very friendly with the party boys and gays for the same reason. That's probably why she is so chummy with people like Domenico & Stefano.
