Who's here? I'm here. You're here . . .: The best cover art for Gerald Walker's "Cruising." The models are great. The one in the foreground really looks like Al Pacino, and I think that the one in the back looks very much like Robert La Tourneaux from "The Boys In The Band." The shadowy, sinister sexual menace is evident, and I like how the "Don't Walk" sign seems to be an ominous warning. The author Gerald Walker wrote for the New York times and covered the disturbing series of murders plaguing the city beginning in the '60s and stemming on into the early '80s. Dead men. Lots of dead men. The movie's even creepier than the book. One of the actors was in real life the actual police officer who went undercover as a decoy to catch the killer(s). It's beyond weird and very ambiguous. They don't think that all the killings were committed by one man, but the pattern killings called "The Bag Murders" were ultimately attributed to an X-ray technician who briefly appears in William Friedkin's "The Exorcist," a twist that seems unbelievable but is true. I saw the movie in downtown New York and yeesh, walking home afterward had me looking over my shoulder the whole way.
