The Hagel Confirmation

^ And use real butter.

th

I've heard that margarine is just one molecule away from being plastic. ..|

Much like Hagel is one week away from being confirmed as SOD.

Like how I was able to do that and still remain "on-topic" without actually giving an opinion?

:p

Totally this.

Obstruct all you want boys. Ain't gonna change a thing.

Hagel is not a good looking guy. The uneven toast fits him.

Actually, if we're making a meal out of this, I'd rather a biscuit with butter and blackberry jelly (no seeds).

Very nice Jack.

I see that Jayhawk has already reminded you of the circumstances.

But what is Boehner's excuse?

Jack I am sure you would make fun of a guy who has his facial features do to being burned in the Vietnam war.

I realize you prefer to simply go schoolyard when you cant win but seriosuly arent republicans supposed to embrace war heros? o thought it was in that Min Kampf book yall have to read....

Does it really matter who gets the hot seat?

Any candidate for the position should be required to express
there position or opinion on items like this and what actions
HE/SHE would, enact...initiate or support as applicable

Lefty the highest possible qualification for me was when Senator Hagel said

I saw the consequences and the suffering and the horror of war. So, I did question a surge. It wasn't an aberration to me ever. I always ask the question, is this going to be worth the sacrifice? Because there will be sacrifice. In the case of the surge in Iraq, we lost almost 1,200 dead Americans during that surge and thousands of wounded.

He knows what it is that is given. Everything else is secondary when it comes to making that decision. Men and Women willfully offer their lives to serve this nation. They deserve a civilian leader and representative that understands the sacrifice. Senator Chuck Hagel is that man at this point in time.

The whole fiasco is an embarrassment to the Republican Party that raised a ruckus over nothing towards a nomination that will go through in the end. This is a party undeserving of House and Senate seats. They would even turn against one of their own just because he is serving at the pleasure of a president who just happens to have a (D) next to his name.

Those of you defending the Republican Party here have pulled up your skirts to reveal your shameless partisanship.

And I find this posting an embarrassment. The seemingly puerile last sentence appears to be an opinion offered out to
engineer further friction among ALL ranks and peoples
But, that is JMHO and reaction.
=======================================

Jay Bud...to Hagel or not to Hagel, that is the question. The answer as I see it. We sure as hell need a new broom that
wasn't rehearsing for POTEW. No endorsement either way from me, JMHO

JH is being very partisan and not consistent in his defense of injured soldiers -- if I remember correctly JH has a hard-on for McCain who spent years in North Vietnamese prisons with broken bones and various other injuries.

... what's that phrase you and Bob like to throw around -- 'faux outrage'.

Did you even listen or read any of Hagel's hearing? it was embarrassing -- the man was not prepared and couldn't answer questions.

Hagel really fucked up the hearing but it likely isn't going to cost him even if he even got some administration policy wrong and had to be corrected on it. He'll barely get through but he was an awful choice for this time and hopefully the damage he'll do at Defense wqill be minimal. Leon Panetta was a much more professional manager, and the managerial style of Hagel will not endear him to his subordinates.

Actually in the real world

Hagel put on a performance that should've cost him the gig

Shockingly inept on facts and unclear on past statements

Feeble is dead on

Had that not occurred I would agree JB

But it did - we all saw or read about it

So your post is ABSURD

I'm ok with CH being confirmed - but for JH to suggest he's the perfect man for the job because he knows what sending kids to fight really means ...

Is curious and inconsistent

right over the heads of the bandwagoneers as well

Chuck Hagel wouldn't have been my first choice. The purpose of the Senate's "advice and consent," however, isn't to jack up the president every time there is a nomination. They have to decide if there is some reason to disqualify the person nominated. What is the point of Republican Senators who say they will vote for Hagel to sustain the filibuster? The Republicans disgrace themselves every time they open their mouths these days or simply vote the party line when they are against what the party is doing. Republicans have no balls and show no leadership. They are destroying their own party, and don't seem to realize it.

^ his confirmation hearing stupor had to set off some red flags no ?

Like WTF

The difference between you and me Champ? You make fun of a guys face who has the courage to do what you ran away from, I dislike John McCain as a Naval Officer, as a Senator and as a leader because he stands for nothing but himself. I do NOT make fun of his hip or physical ailments that he suffered in a POW camp in Vietnam. That type of behavior is childish playground shit.

Whats more in a mythical situation where either of these men were to choose between the two of us to have a conversation I am pretty sure even John McCain would wanna talk to the guy who disagrees vehemently with the lack of heart and position than the guy making playground insults. Men of charater simply do not behave in that way.

Lefty, I agree on someone new although I don't understand your abbreviation "POTEW". I think Hagel has thoroughly demonstrated a reluctance to go to war, a desire to wisely slice up our defense budget because it desperately needs cuts, and focusing the departments full weight onto drone type warfare and cyber warfare.

We should never expend life if there are other options on the table.
Defense was massively (DOUBLED) since 2001 and needs to be trimmed back.
I also think both he and BHO desire to codify Drone and cyber warfare to strike a balance between our rights and our defense.

The bottom line is it should still be difficult to end a life even if none of our lives are being lost. I personally think both men posses that ability.

Palemale I agree the republican party had two responses to the SotU, Boehner has demonstrated in a couple different mediums that he would raise some revenue to govern but the Cantor's of the House prevent him from moving, and the only time something happens is when the Senate is paid off in pork to get republicans onboard. They are broken and America sees it all the time.

Finally the entire beef against Hagel on the right is because he wasn't a mindless drone following Bush into Iraq. This is payback for failing to get the fuck into line. That is the only truly bad thing you can do as a republican... is not be on the team. Guess what? Hagel was right in both instances... we shouldn't have been there and the surge didn't do a fucking thing. Even I had that wrong for a long, long time. I can admit i am wrong but republicans cannot (neither can democrats).

Jay,

President Of The Entire World...

I have no idea of Hagel's agenda but, the Biggest Set of real Balls in the
Clinton family has long signaled her goal in life. Since she can't be Queen
of the universe, she will settle for POTEW...

short Break for reality check... people, being a
POW, Naval Officer and especially a now semi-senile Senator who has wet
dreams of being the POTUS or better, does not make him any less unwise,
incompetent or irrational.

Both parties suck...Can we say untested Refuteblican't Palin for example? Or,
a POTUS that the Dumbocriticals did not even vet? (well, unless maybe Mr.
Gazillions George and his acolytes did the picking and vetting.)

Drones (the missle kind anyway, like guns (etc) don't kill people. People do.
So fix the fucking Problem not the symptoms. i am not an aficionado of Mr.
Hagel, or any other potential candidate

As to the USA's problems, maybe we need to CLEAN/Repair/fix the entirety
of the Problems in our Government, not the symptoms. Not trying to stir up
'old bank' here, just offering what is JMHO. (probably excessively at that)
Rather than 'drone on, I say think about what Jay, others think. When you
have the facts not the Dogma, share...
O/P, I apologise for the additional off your track Dreck.

Oh shit! I'm so flattered you quote me in a thread I haven't posted in until now Springer. It's nice to see the huge impression my posts have made on you. :luv:

Hagel will be confirmed. Doddering old fool McCain is trying to remain relevant by asking him questions on a topic Hagel has nothing to do with. The faux Bengazi scandal is all they have right now so in order to make it as difficult for the President as they can, they have to throw some shit at an Obama appointee. Hopefully some of it will stick. But why grill Hagel about a subject he had nothing to do with? Because they have nothing else. It's all they got. (....cue the "Four Dead Americans" rambling.....)

Spending time in a POW camp doesn't qualify you to be a politician. Nor does it make you a good one. If you don't believe me take a look at McCain.

Hagel should in turn ask foolish old McCain why he left his wife and married a pretty young daughter of a millionaire who had plans to further his political career. Hagel should also ask him what Saint Ronald and Baby Nancy thought of it. (FYI, they were friends with John and wifey # 1 until Johnny fucked around, divorced her and Ron/Nancy never spoke to him again) Maybe McCain will hobble back to his retirement home.... you know.... the one her Dad's booze money built for him. [-X

Still waiting to give you a ride to the Army recruiter Springer. Let the enemy see your handsome face as you bayonet them so they won't get shot by one of Obama's evil impersonal drones.

Hagel is going to get confirmed. Republicans are going to look like asshats for the shenanigans they're pulling. JUB is going to be flooded with a certain handful of people whining about how terrible it is going to be once Hagel is confirmed. The process will repeat itself next week.

Bob -- you're famous in CEP for your faux outrage.

I guess you missed the Hagel hearing too ... the bar keeps getting lower for the Obama cabinet. I did read that the Russian Prime Minister finally accepted a call from another of Obama's new peeps -- it took over a week.

Looks like they'll need another 'reset button'. I called Office Depot -- but the administration has already exhausted all their inventory.
