They did the same thing in my gym class.

Our grade was 1/3 did you change to gym clothes, 1/3 did you participate (thankfully you did not have to be good) and 1/3 did you shower.

The first few weeks he actually checked the names off as you came to the window to get your towel - after that he just noticed if he did not see you getting a towel or having wet hair.
