A jock was just on the list of things needed for class, along with the money for the gym shorts and shirt. Nothing was ever said - it just appeared much the way socks and underwear just appeared at that age.

Mom bought it and nothing was said.

The wearing of them in class quickly died off after a bit and most of us just wore underwear as so much of the gym class were activities that a jock was not needed for.

As for the "assless undies" - I still bet that jocks were invented by a gay man!

When I was in school we never had any "requirement" to wear a jock. I think only the boys who were on the sports teams did and only for their practices/games? I don't recall anybody wearing a jock just for gym class.

And I will raise your bet, I think I said that in the other jockstrap thread, I'm sure you/we are right!

Supposedly - this may be urban myth to scare the new kids in the school - they used to do a "jock check" where the gym teacher would make sure everyone was wearing a jock. But if that ever happened it was over before I got there.

However showers after gym were still a requirement and if you didn't shower it would lower your grade.

I can assure you, it is no urban myth (1960s) - jock(strap) checks were checked by the coach every gym class before we'd do whatever else he had planned, except for swimming, because we swam in the nude

Yep, true. We had to wear a jock strap every gym class. It was mandatory. We had swim class at a very close by public pool, so we had to wear swim trunks, but jock straps were required for that too.
 
a WAY back in the early 70's, when I was in high school, at least once a week during gym class, the coach required everyone in the class to sit on the hardwoods; and, pull one of our jock leg straps out of the legs of our gym shorts and let it snap back. It was his way of verifying that we were wearing a jock :badgrin:
 
^^ God, what was the big deal about wearing a jock back then? Sounds like a homoerotic obsession on the part of male school faculty! (NOT that I'm complaining!)
