the last film you watched thread

Gladiator last nite ln TV - first time I have seen it start to finish - awesome in HD

In the theaters just saw "The Kings Speech" and "Another Year" - both very good with the latter better IMO - great performance by Geoffrey Rush - should win something for it

The King's Speech

A-MAZING!!!!

The performances were great. All three main actors have already been nominated for multiple awards. I'm sure Oscar nominations are to come also.

Not really a movie, but a DVD set, "The Judy Garland Show". This show was on for only one year, 1963-1964, years before I was around, but it's amazing how wonderful she was at performing. *sigh* I guess, in some ways, we all eventually fit at least one of our stereotypes: "You're gay? Well then of course you like Judy Garland!!"

As they deservedly should. :D I saw the film again today. It's that good. One of my favourite lines is -

"Dr McLeod warned me your Antipodean methods were ... unorthodox and controversial. I warned her that they were not two of my favourite words."

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Glad to see the producers are actually following the games...well singular; game. They incorporated a lot from RE 5, booyeah! x]

The other night I saw the film Contracorriente (Undertow). It's Peru's submission as Best Foreign Language Film. Hopefully it will receive a nomination which will lead to wider release here in the US.

"Miguel is a handsome, young and beloved fisherman in Cabo Blanco, a small fishing village in the Northern coast of Peru, where the community has deep-rooted religious traditions. He is married to the beautiful Mariela, who is 7-months pregnant with their firstborn, but Miguel harbors a scandalous secret: He is having a love affair with another man, Santiago, a painter who is ostracized by the townsfolk for being agnostic and open about his sexuality. Tragedy strikes, Miguel is forced to deal with the consequences of his acts and to come to terms with who he really is, even if by doing so he stands the chance of losing the people he loves the most."

With sweeping images of the beautiful Peruvian coastline, UNDERTOW (Contracorriente) is the emotional intersection of contemporary sexuality, confronted by tradition and belief.

“In a confident yet relaxed feature debut, Fuentes-León has created a wholly unified work of art.” Kevin Thomas , Los Angeles Times

“Undertow, for all its narrative tricks, has been given the rhythm and texture of real life, as well as emotional undercurrents that are haunting.” Bob Mondello, NPR

“Sensual and romantic with a heavy dose of the supernatural and populated by indelible characters.” Pam Grady, Box-office Magazine

I just saw Tron: Legacy at the IMAX theater near me. And, WOW! what an amazingly visual film. The effects were fantastic, fit very well with the lyrical tone of the film.
