the last film you watched thread

hanna
a style over substance film, hanna is a lot of fun, but its maybe a little on the pretentious side, and not all of its experiments work. Saoirse Ronan is fantastic, but the usually brilliant Cate Blanchett is surprisingly bad. Olivia Williams and Jason Flemyng are charming as always, but their story just gets forgotten about, almost as if the film didnt have the balls to kill them off. all in all a mixed bag but worth seeing. and am i the only one who thought the skinhead henchmen looked exactly like two prominent cazzo porn performers?

Friends With Benefits.

It was a pretty fun, light-hearted film. ^.^

priest
fun enough while it lasts, but ultimately mediocre and forgettable. its too bad, this could have been better. the premise is solid (post-apocalyptic sci-fi western featuring killer priests vs vampires), its got some style, and the cast is actually really good. i particularly love maggie q, who makes the most out of very little, and proves once more that shes as good an actress as she is breathtakingly beautiful, and that she deserves to be in better movies.

Captain America. I can't wait for the next part... THE AVENGERS!! :)

tangled
what a sweet movie. its a classical disney fairy tale, updated for the 21 century and done right. and i think i have a crush on the 'flynn rider' character ^^

the warriors way
(yes, ive been on a movie binge today)
now were talking. after the disappointing priest, its good to get some cowboy-ninja-carnival-goodness. the romance is surprisingly heartfelt, too. style, witt, heart, and all around asskicking. i couldnt ask for more.

2 Fast 2 Furious.

I'm surprised at how much I liked this.Even though the acting was wooden as hell.

x-men first class (spoilers!)
ok, i hate to be that guy. really hate it. because i love the x-men, and i really wanted to like this movie. the rave reviews got my hopes up, and my brother loved it as well. but im just not feeling it.

essentially, i found the movie to be rushed, overcrowded, and overheated. too many characters, and full of dramatic moments that dont feel earned.

then theres a laundry-list of details that bother me: sebastian shaw as sadistic super-nazi, emma frost as personality-free bimbo. then, the overstuffed cast has exactly two people that arent lilly-white; one dies (even though his mutant power is to survive anything), and one is a traitor. i cant believe they did something like that in twothousand fucking eleven.

granted, i saw the movie in less than perfect circumstances. and there are things that do work, such as almost everything involving mystique. i will definitely have to watch it again, and maybe, with my expectations adjusted, i will enjoy it more. but my first reaction is just... disappointment.

i will never get tired of looking at fassbender, though! what a man! ^^

enter the void
its visually stunning for sure. but the ending baffled me a little. im not sure whether the film has as much substance as it suggests, or whether its just a beautiful but pretentious exercise in trippy visuals. (and yeah, im afraid noé appears to be a homophobe. its not really front and center here, but it seeps through.)

blue valentine
basically i just wanted to finally see something with the suddenly ubiquitous ryan gosling. he did not disappoint. gorgous man, wonderful actor.

oh yeah, the movie. gorgeous cinematography, excellent acting. the story is heartbreaking but im not sure what im supposed to take from it.

haha, taking over this thread all by myself it seems. its ok, ive been watching more movies lately and i just want to write down my thoughts somewhere.

true grit (the version by the coen brothers)
nicely shot and acted, and its always good to see a strong female protagonist. however, im not well versed at all in westerns, and i feel i would have gotten more out of this if i was. all i see is a well crafted revenge fantasy, nothing more and nothing less.

thor
hello there, chris. hello. no, im not gonna lend you a shirt. i think you should just walk around like that. no, nobody will mind, its summer anyway...

oh yeah, the movie. its solid superhero fun. the whole movie has a slightly impersonal, calculated, 'corporal' feel; it doesnt have a strong artistic voice, like the best superhero movies (burtons 'batman returns', singers 'x-men', nolans 'dark knight' etc). but its still well made, and i like how the tone is upbeat and fun, not angsty and miserable.

Transformers 3, LOVED it! Totally my type of movie, with a lot of nice action <3

The Manchurian Candidate (the remake)... blech, thumbs down.

The 1962 original was WAY better.
