the last film you watched thread

Watched "I Love You Phillip Morris". Jim Carrey was good, and Ewan McGregor is adorable. It's actually kind of funny, although not a comedy per se. Gay romance movies are so rare, we kind of have to take what we can get. I recommend this though.

"Ghost" an oldie but a goodie. Patrick and Demi both look fine in that movie... not crazy about the short hair on Demi though.

I finally watched "Howl" (James Franco potraying Allen Ginsberg). I enjoyed it probably more as an insight to liberated young people from the late fifties, and an example of what it was like for a gay man (Ginsberg) to understand and be comfortable with his sexuality.

I recommend it.

I saw Dick Tracy last night!

So funny!

^I think I made it fifteen minutes into Prince Caspian. It's a bit of a shame the franchise is such crap. Maybe The Magician's Nephew (2014) will redeem it?

Shortbus.
It seemed like Mitchell wanted to explore the meaningful depths of the characters' neuroses but mostly just remained in the shallows. I thought it was vaudevillian not profound.

I saw the new film The Conspirator.

The film, directed by Robert Redford, is about a woman from the Confederate South who is accused of taking part in a conspiracy to assassinate President Lincoln and the Union army veteran-turned-lawyer who, begrudgingly at first, defends her. But the film is mainly about how unjust the justice system can be given certain circumstances.

The best aspect of the film is as that commentary and reminder about the inequities of the justice system. But I don't know to what extent it takes dramatic liberties with historical fact, though. Nevertheless, it was quite engrossing.

Scream 4,

terrible. was a mercy movie with a friend that one to go with.

The Fighter. Better than I expected, usually I'm not much into films about boxers. But the cast in this was fantastic. And it had some good comedy in it which I also never expected.

A documentary called "The Celluloid Closet", about the history of the portrayal of gays and lesbians in Hollywood movies. It was made in 1996, so it doesn't include "Brokeback..", but it was still interesting.

"The Boys", a documentary about the songwriting team the Sherman brothers, who wrote a lot of songs for Disney movies.

Speaking of docs, "The Times of Harvey Milk" is now available on blu-ray. Highly recommended.

I just saw "Kalamity" (2010). Not necessarily the greatest film, but cool to see Jonathan Jackson and Nick Stahl act opposite each other as best friends in some dramatically meaty roles.

Oh, I saw "The Boys" not too long ago - fascinating documentary on brothers who didn't get along very well in life but could hole up in an office all day long writing some of the most classic tunes. Recommended!

Watched another of my favorites last night:

Rosemary's Baby (1968 )

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063522/

Incredible movie, a horror classic.

Querelle

Not Fassbinder's best but Brad Davis makes up for it.

Fritz Lang's eighty year old serial killer thriller, M.

Peter Lorre has such stupendous eyeballs.

Source Code. Low budget Inception but very very good

Super. I recommend it. It's a great movie, with lots of dark humor. The movie can get pretty intense though, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who gets easily offended, or doesn't like violence/gore. Overall, I thought it was an excellent film. 10/10.

That movie was great, in my opinion. It was a bit more profound than you think, you just have to look a bit deeper into it.

I felt there was little actual need for the hysterical anguish and forced epiphanies. Had Mitchell (and neophyte crew?) left the characters to mundane frustrations the film would have felt stronger.

Perhaps the very moments I thought overwrought you found insightful, heh? I know many people who really liked Shortbus, people who I respect. It's an interesting film for gays, that way.
