the last film you watched thread

Jan Svankmajer has made some movies I just love, like Little Otik and Conspirators of Pleasure.

Lunacy (2005) now too. :luv: :luv:

Philosophical mayhem, de Sade, meat, a featherstorm of chickens, Poe and politics...

I forgot how emotional this movie is for me. Harvey will never be equalled....

Ted, it was amazingly funny! We laugh so hard! Mark Wahlberg is superb in it. A lot better that we ever expected it to be.

The Artist. It didn't suck. But it is the typical stuff that the elite members of the academy like to vote for to impress themselves. I thought the dog was the best thing about it.:?

one of the first movies that helped me accept the fact that I like dicks...

Martian Child with John Cusack.

Not my choice, but it could have been worse. Kinda cute, actually...

I rented it. I liked it. (I did FFWD.) It's not for cynics.

Two nights ago I watched Blue State and Primary Colors. Both movies centered around politics, which normally guarantees I'll enjoy the movie. Sadly, that wasn't really the case this time.

Blue State was about a disgruntled democrat supporter moving to Canada when George W. was elected the second time. The movie started out fairly strong, I thought. Breckin Meyer played the democrat. He had given up his job and distanced himself from his girlfriend to work on the Kerry campaign. After the campaign ended he finds himself without a job and without a girlfriend and without a president. So he decides to make good on a drunken promise he made during the campaign- to move to Canada if Kerry loses. He picks up a travel companion (Anna Paquin) and the two make their way to Canada.

When they get to Canada the movie fell apart for me. Apparently the film makers didn't take the time to learn anything about the geography of Canada, or the culture, or the regional accents... Ttheir interpretation of Canada was so misguided and uneducated that it was offensive. Curling, log cabins, and buffalo skins? I don't know anybody that lives in a log cabin and I've never EVER seen a buffalo skin before. But forget the sad representation of Canada. The ending was pretty weak, also pretty predictable. Not worth watching at all.

Primary Colors was a John Travolta film. He played a presidential nominee based on Bill Clinton. He pretty well nailed Clinton's voice and mannerisms. The movie was interesting. Very well acted. Kathy Bates stole the show for me. But overall it was too drawn out. The ending felt rushed for some reason. And it didn't feel like there was a point to any of it. Maybe worth watching if you like Clinton and really good if your a Clinton hater. But don't watch it if you don't have an interest in politics.

Who is it for? People who prefer to FFWD through best picture winners?

A couple of times, I did it--that's all. I guess I'm a cynic.

It's also a sort of celebration of them, and they seem to like that as well.

This Danish film called 'Fear Me Not'. Brilliant photography of the Danish countryside; acting was also good but I was left feeling a bit dissapointed by the familiar, hackneyed story of an man who loses his mind and turns on his family (see 'The Shining').
