Is anyone watching it?

Into episode 3 or so and IMO it's gotten better

Jeff Daniels is the Keith O character
Emily Mortimer is his EP - like her

Sam Waterston is the head of the news division

real cutie is a middle level producer - John Gallagher Jr. - check him out

Dev Patel - he was in Slumdog - is a junior guy

yeah yeah it's schmaltzy liberal bullshit and there's lots of holes in it

but it's good

real good

check it out

It is good, & Jane Fomda is excellent playing against type as a manipulating female Murdoch.

Some may be BS Chance, but not linking Scalia, & the Thomas' to the Koch Bros & Citizens United. I remember it being discussed on MS media outlets (NOT Fox, of course) that the 2 justices should have recused themselves.

Quality of The Newsroom?

Subject matter is interesting; but the holes include: weak female characters, a terrible, distracting romance between supporting figures (played out too long), and a lead anchor — played by the underappreciated Jeff Daniels — whose identification as a Republican voter leaves me wondering if series creator Aaron Sorkin may be fantasizing or is full of shit.

Performances by Sam Waterston and guest Jane Fonda are most rewarding.

It is one of my favorite new shows!

All the performances are stunning. Olivia Munn and John Gallagher really shocked me.

Jane Fonda and Sam Waterson need no explanation, CoolBlue nailed it.

However, none of them touch the writing. I rewatched episodes and caught things I missed.... It's just a masterpiece.

It took me until last week's episode to get fully invested in it. Liked the pilot, then slugged through the next two episodes and it finally clicked for me last week.

I've seen the first two eps. Loved the pilot, felt the second ep was bogged down a bit. Glad to hear it's getting stronger - time to watch some more! I'm a huge Sorkin fan, so can't really resist anyway.

For those of you who want Corporations out of politics: what will you do with shows like The Newsroom, clearly designed to promote the Democrat party in an election year?

Chance i havent gotten into that but I love Political Animals on USA... that show is every trouble from every admin in the last 30 years all wrapped up into one....

I have not seen it - just a 2-3 minute remote control play - saw Sigourney Weaver and couldn't help but think of Ridley - kept expecting a monster to jump out of her chest :)

wil check it

What a fantastic end to this weeks show with the donation to "Rudy" so heartwarming I just loved that.

dude - so true - as an ND fan (not an alum but Irish/Catholic) I've seen the movie several times

course Jeff D was not Dan Devine-like character but ................ it was terrific

many people complain about feel good/schmaltz/happy ending stuff as in it's not "realistic" - well I for one think it is realistic and even when it isn't ........ I'm OK with it

I rewatched the premiere episode last night

he's on the panel - mr. vanilla - saying nada

then out of the blue he says how he REALLY feels

sorta far fetched

and we find out all of his co-workers loathe him

now we're on episode 3-4 and he's a wonderful guy

schmaltz

but i like it :)

i really like it :)

emily mortimer is growing on me

anyone see the last episode where she knows NOTHING about economics ;)

and needs to be taught

pretty fucking funny

and john gallagher is gorgeous and a good (if underutilized) character

Is he a regular?

He is a great actor and singer.

he is a regular - he reports to Emily who is the Exec Producer so I'm guessing he's the Producer of the show

he's in sort of a love triangle .......

Yeah, I caught that scene and was a little uncomfortable with it for probably the same reasons that you were.

Can you imagine a real "Jeff Daniels" type character actually doing that?

And what was up with the "visual" of the chick holding up the sign up the gallery?

From his past? A romance? A regret?

I'm just barely trying to get caught up with it, and didn't watch the first episode all the way through. Set the DVR and went to bed.

A girl's gotta eat, and I need my beauty sleep. ;)

But now that I've read the reviews here from guys who's opinion that I respect, I'll dig into some more and come back to share my thought. :)

Talented eye Candy in any given show is always a bonus! :D

you have HBO ??? I thought you were crying poverty ;) I love HBO btw

Not a big Jeff Daniels fan - he's ok - sorta vanilla - everyman - dull - etc. - the role that sticks out for me is the chick flick where Debra Winger (his wife) is dying of cancer - with the famous older actress as the mom who screams in the hospital at everyone to get her daughter pain meds cuz she's in pain - with Jack Nicholson as the astronaut (player) she's fooling around with

anyway jeff plays a guy "Flap" in the movie - professor who bones his students - he's a louse who eventually allows someone other than he to take care of the kids after debra winger dies in a sappy way

whew

as for the woman in the back with the signs

THAT'S EMILY MORTIMER - his exec producer/ex lover from 3 years ago who is hired back AFTER he has that panel meltdown

she wasn't really there - he just saw her - and she prompted him to be "him"

does that help?

and John Gallagher gives me a serious woodie but his character is a little weak

and the blonde chick he sorta likes but is with the other producer is a major pain in the ass IMHO

hope that helps

beauty rest?

Not since I kicked Corporate Walmart to the curb and joined the "corporate ranks" of management with an Energy Company who's services many of us rely upon everyday! ..|

But my home is still "out in the sticks" and even "basic cable w/internet" still costs me more than $100 a month via satellite. And because of work, and if I'm lucky I get to view maybe four days out of the month. ;)

You've been there.

Some good programing.

TURN IN YOUR GAY CARD, and return the toaster oven!

Terms of Endearment (1983)

It could be a metaphor for our friendship. ;)

Oh, I get it...you didn't want too much of your "gay to show."

That's kind of "endearing."

You know you could have just named the movie, and avoided any conjecture or judgement on my part. :p

as for the woman in the back with the signs

Yes, finally! And you accuse me of being winded.

THAT'S EMILY MORTIMER - his exec producer/ex lover from 3 years ago who is hired back AFTER he has that panel meltdown

Yes, tremendously, and I'll look for the connection when I hopefully get to review my DVR this weekend.

Like I said "eye candy helps" keep my interests.

beauty rest?

You couldn't possibly know about it, what with all the time you spend at the gym. ;)

Um, actually at the end of Episode 1 we see that she WAS there. Why he kept seeing a different woman is a bit weird, but she was there and she was showing him the signs. And I didn't find his switch from vanilla to cutting criticism in any way unbelievable. He was clearly repressing because he didn't want the sort of attention speaking his mind would draw. And then he couldn't hold it anymore.

liberal annie to his right
freedom freddie to his left

just did not feel the build up

either way ........ he ain't vanilla now

and he went from an asshole to giving $250K for an egyptian stranger

i know ....... it's TV

and we have John :)
