The Newsroom on HBO

Both Don and Jim look hot as those characters on the show but for some reason in real life look insane.

I don't know if it is the camera lens or what but this show makes them look gorgeous. Olivia Munn looks effortlessly stunning on and off camera, of course.

i just didn't see the "call to action"

liberal annie to his right
freedom freddie to his left

just did not feel the build up

either way ........ he ain't vanilla now

and he went from an asshole to giving $250K for an egyptian stranger

My favourite new show so far this season. "I Will Fix You" is my favourite episode. The dates he went on are hilarious.

She's his conscience. In subsequent episodes, his ex and his boss provided more details about how he's such a nice guy before the big break up. The break up changed him into a rating chaser, who succeed by not offending anyone instead of being true to himself and what he believe him. It's the reason why the boss brought her back into his life.

Financially, he's very well off so 250k is nothing to him. He's the number 2 news anchor on TV, earning around 11m a year. He took a major pay cut and new contract terms just so he can fire her when he want.

really powerful episode

will attacks a gay black teacher who is supporting Rick Santorum ........ solely because of his anti abortion stance

will is seeing a psychiatrist as he hasn't been sleeping ............

Jeff Daniels is fantastic in this episode

some dumb interpersonal stuff doing on

Olivia Munn is outstanding here as she confronts a Japanese spokesperson pertaining to the earthquake

No real James Gallagher action though :(

Um, actually at the end of Episode 1 we see that she WAS there. Why he kept seeing a different woman is a bit weird, but she was there and she was showing him the signs. And I didn't find his switch from vanilla to cutting criticism in any way unbelievable. He was clearly repressing because he didn't want the sort of attention speaking his mind would draw. And then he couldn't hold it anymore.

I was in a class where a professor "broke" that way, once. He'd been toeing the line the administration was urging for a long time, then finally decided the students should hear some reality. Everyone was all, "Where the frak did that come from?!"

very tough scene+ with jeff daniels character grilling a gay black supporter of rick santorum - hard to watch but hard to stop

Well, shit... I have to agree with you again, chance. ( )

For my money, "True Blood " / "The Newsroom" are the best two hours on television at the moment.

I know many folks call "The Newsroom" leftist leaning clap trap, and that Sorkin's rapid fire (and brilliant, IMO) dialogue isn't for everyone, but for the life of me, I can't find many facts in the news portions of the show that are not accurate.

Agree or disagree with the shows' "dogma", one would be hard pressed to find a more intelligent show on TV.

(The episodes are so multi-layered they stand up to repeated viewings. Try that with "Blue Bloods" or any other nonsense on regular broadcast television)

As for John Gallagher: He's cute, but he'd look a LOT hotter with my jizz dripping off his face on to his chest.

(Wait... did I say that last part out loud ? )

she was there? i thought he imagined her there - thanks for the correction - thought he was missing her in his mind

Okay cool. I was pretty sure she was really there but when you wrote the earlier post I thought I'd have to re-watch the pilot because I must have missed something.

Thanks Rolyo!

Found some time to get caught up with this show this weekend. Thank Gawd for DVR! *|*

m'kay.

I freakin' LOVE this show!

It's well written, there's an interesting and wonderful character dynamic (some of it cliche but fun, and somewhat expected), and its, just, well...great entertainment.

At the very least it might make some viewers who wouldn't normally watch it but do because they want to get their money's worth out of HBO, actually think a little bit.

While cynics like me would like to think that what this represents as something that's actually going on somewhere out here in the real world.

It's fiction, it's drama, it's fun, and there's "eye candy."

What more could we ask for in "premium cable?" :D

you need to stop saying that ;)

since i officially love the show i've morphed into focusing on the parts i want them to eliminate ;)

like the blonde dopey (not really) sorta love interest of the object of your jizz dripping fantasy - she didn't know georgia the state from georgia the country? and is she really hot? and her bf the other EP I hate him

sam waterson is so freaking good - his fight with olivia munn was sick - and her deal with the japanese was amazing

but the jeff daniels - black gay teacher supporting santorum was crazy good - i've never seen the other guy before but he made me believe he was that guy not an actor - really good

wish they would give cutie pie gallagher more to do and more screen time perhaps a shirtless shot - bottomless is ok too - it is hbo

lochte just won a trials

Newsroom, now that characters have been developed, is getting different - still very good

BTW this week Jeff Daniels was a guest on ESPN 1050AM/98.7FM in NYC - seems that he's a friend of Mike Lupica and an avid sportsman - really good interview and he legit seems like a good egg

but i digress

The show is really coming into its own. For me there are still huge credibility/plausibility gaps in matters of business goings on and more so interpersonal but here's a few items from this week

We've learned that Will has battled depression, issues from his childhood, relationship issues - he sees a psychiatrist - very good character btw

meanwhile he eats 2 pot brownies + vicodin - wasted - but has to address the nation in an emergency (bin laden announcement)

meanwhile Jim (John Gallagher - still crazy cute but exceedingly and less plausibly dumb) is gonna break up with his gf because she said i love you - she's amazing btw - but he really digs the blonde from the office who's dating the other EP - who's a douche but growing on me

anyway .......

this episode was exceedingly sappy and moralistic with regard to OBL being killed - Sam W would not announce w/o 100% confirm - so people knew but couldn't report so they were able to tell individuals and "report" on a person to person basis

am i making sense?

meanwhile i love the olivia munn character who appears (much like Lloyd in entourage) to be growing as a character when maybe originally that was not the plan

it's just the kind of show that you wanna watch despite its flaws

and you sorta wish you were in the newsroom with them

watch it if you haven't - worth it

I was thinking the same thing! The show has definitely "jelled" for me and I'm even finding some emotional investment in the love triangle between cutie and the blonde (which was the primarily cutesy subplot that was giving me a toothache in episodes 2 and 3) They're no "Jim & Pam" but I like them.

I loved the chemistry on display while the group was stuck on the runway. Nothing quite like a group of actors being forced to primarily sit still on a tiny set and making it WORK. They did and I'm BEHIND Olivia Munn's character now as a result.

Watching it though, I can't shake Rush Limbaugh's criticism that it plays like someone looking back at all the things they WISHED they had said during an argument. I hate to admit it but he has a point there.

Anyway, it's gone from a chore to a pleasure to watch and I really really like it. Did I mention I've had a girl crush on Emily Mortimer since MATCH POINT?

Check out Political Animals, also a really good time!

How cute was the kid trying to get time with Olivia ....... and she played it perfect :)

Why isn't this in the entertainment section?

Why isn't this in the entertainment section?

I was going to ask, "Why do we have a gossip thread in CE&P?"

So, I second the motion: move the silly thing.

two reasons - and I'll add a question

1 - it's a POLITICAL show - about a cable network that is going with a new style - a real style of addressing POLITICAL issues
2 - CE+P is generally a shit show with mostly negative energy - this provides a modest and necessary relief for a group that could use one IMO

you'll notice that the people who stop by this thread enjoy the back/forth

and the people who don't .........

and lastly, why do you care? don't post if you don't like

Kuli - you have 80,000 posts - you post more than anyone - one thread that doesn't interest you won't kill you

back to the thread:

I really enjoyed Dev Patel's girlfriend's character - her father died in 911 and her response to OBL getting caught and killed was not the same as everyone elses ............. she had mixed feelings as it brought back some very tough ones

It's a political show and the thread is gossip about... the characters.

Yeah, it belongs in entertainment.

a behind the scenes aaron sorkin look at this past week's episode

Dev's gf's reaction was realistic.

***SPOILERISH

I'm thinking that guy with Charlie in the previews talking about illegal taping will lead to Leona becoming an American Rupert Murcoch with the phone hacking scandal. Maybe Will or Charlie will blackmail Leona to keep working??

I agree Chance the thread is fine where it is, after all, it does address the recent past, & I have a feeling we'll be in current events soon anyhow.
